Title: Selamiat Hari Malaysia
Description: The Birth of the Nation Day
Bud Bilko - September 16, 2009 05:48 AM (GMT)
Ladies and Gents,
Today, 16th September marked the birth of the Federation of Malaysia (16/9/63) and also marked the 76th years of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). Also, 46 years ago today, Sabah and Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaysia.
Many of us may not remember or don't even care this date but it is very important and significant for Malaysia apart from 31st August 1957. Hidup Malaysia!!!

Mat Selam, dont be sad....
16th September always forgotten to many of us...when i first learn about this back in high school i also wondered how come the gov didnt declared today as our Malaysian Day or make some kind of publicity at least (although i was hoping a Public Holiday)...
so to all of us, pls celebrate and mark this day in history..after so much effort, today we celebrate the birth of Malaysia with the join of people in various races and religion as well as Sabah and Sarawak....
this should be the real 1Malaysia!

bang lan, i think people got confused between 1957 and 1963 which is 2 diiferent year where 1957 marks the merdeka day and 1963 is the day when federation of malaysia was born and also sabah sarawak became malaysia as 1.
31 august 1957 = "malaya" was independence / "malaya" telah merdeka
16 September 1963 = the name malaya became "Malaysia" / nama malaya tukar jadi "Malaysia"
Therefore guys if you are still confused hari merdeka and hari malaysia are 2 different things ;) .

From what I heard Sabah (and Sarawak maybe?) have 16 Sept as their holiday. Anyone can comfirm?
Happy anniversary Malaysia!

Both Sarawak and Sabah celebrate their Yang di-Pertua Negeri's birthday on Malaysia Day so it's a holiday.

very interesting event occured. I took the liberty to test a couple of my friends and the result is as follow:
1) when is malaysia's independence day? = answer 31 August 1957
2) When is Malaysia's national day = answer 31 August 1957
hmmmmmmm i think independence day and national day are 2 different words. So i think for years and years people got it wrongly. It should be independence day = 31 August 1957 and the national day 16 September 1963 dont you agree guys? ;)
azlandiver - September 18, 2009 03:18 AM (GMT)
tapi bang.....sekarang ni suma orang cakap hari kebangsaan & hari merdeka tu adalah hari yang sama.....pelik kan??
national day & independence day

Bros,
I think both the dates should be honoured as they are both significant.
Malaysia is not whole without the entry of Sabah and Sarawak.
