Title: Achtung! German Infantry
Description: Academy 1/35

PoohBear - September 14, 2009 05:25 PM (GMT)
Our friend here is from Academy's 1/35 German SS Infantry Russia 1944 four figure set. Some of you may recall seeing his life begin at the MGB09 workshop. ^_^

He is basically OOB except for his helmet which came from Masterbox spares. His gas mask canister is pending and will be added later. Enjoy!

...he looks like adam sandler :P :) nice work on the camo btw

PoohBear - September 15, 2009 12:48 AM (GMT)
Danke mojimbo.

Any resemblance to persons living or not is purely coincidental ^_^

Argrillion - September 15, 2009 01:05 AM (GMT)
Finally finished! Bum and I suggest that you quickly move-on with the Marines.

PoohBear - September 15, 2009 01:14 AM (GMT)
The marines are landing ^_^

One in the works and many many more to go through.

Academy should really put Pooh Bear's infantry pics on its box.

Agreed. I definitely support Lim's suggestion. Anyone who has seen the painting at the back of any Academy's figgie sets would agree as well.

Despite being one of your quickie, in-between practice work I see there is improvement. Its a miracle if any of Academy figgies have hands that have even a decent grasp of their weapons, of course the same could be said of some of DML's earlier figgie kits as well so no comment there. Me only teeny comment which you probably already know and probably intentionally left out given it was a practice kit is the blackeninng of the sleeve holes near the wrists. Minor.

As Arg says, let's get on with the Marines. B)

PoohBear - September 15, 2009 04:52 AM (GMT)
Danke for the compliment Lim & CK.

Spot on on with the sleeve 'holes'. You can put it down to the marines who suddenly came a calling, thanks to you and Arg. Perhaps I'll get back to it later though.

And what of your green boyz? About time you kicked off with those.

JK,
I think its time you stop mucking around with Academy and move on to your more delicate resin stuff!
You don't need to practice anymore. ;)

A decent figure Pooh. I see you got the right idea with the helmet shading. Now what you need is weathering. Stain and chip it. The hood's fur was also given some attention which is more than some care to do. Doesn't show up much in the pics but if the viewer look closely this is a plus. Were you the one who painted a blue bread bag previously? Were colored reference available to you when you painted the gear of this figure? I have not come across tan colored ammo pouches for the MP40. For the MP44 yes. This figure can do without the bayonet. I attach these only for figures carrying rifles such as the 98k. The pistol holster could indicate he's an NCO. Is the blade supposed to be exposed or inside a sheath/scabbard? Looks to the viewer like you painted an exposed blade in silver.

Cheers
Patrick

PoohBear - September 16, 2009 03:41 AM (GMT)
Thanks for your valued comments Patrick :)

Roger on weathering the helmet. Chipping is there but is obviously too light to be observed. Staining is something I missed!

Yes, the blue bread bag was by yours truly.

The refs I found off the net were for the equipment only.

The coat is based on the Italian camo anorak which our friend beachbum kindly provided the link to. The fur is ...well, lets just say there isn't any sculpt detail at all. I just dabbed a few strokes and hope it passes for 'fur'

I'll have to submit to your knowledge on the ammo pouch. ^_^

I agree with you that it would be more logical to give him the bayonet if he was carrying a rifle but I mounted it anyway following the ...er...box photos. The knife was done in a metal finish sheath based on some reference I came across.

Like the knife, I give him the pistol as per the box photos. He's probably not decked out as accurately as he ought to be but I didn't want to think too much about that as he just wasn't worth it.

cheers

Dear Poohbear,

Nice! May I know what type / brand of paint were you using? Is it hand painted or air sprayed?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

PoohBear - September 17, 2009 03:15 AM (GMT)
Hi Choong, initial priming was done by airbrush. Everything else thereafter is handpainted with Vallejo Acrylic Model colors.

cheers

Dear Poohbear,

Where can I get these Vallejo paints in Malaysia and how much does one cost?

Thanks and cheers.

Loo CK - September 22, 2009 02:08 PM (GMT)
Choongwk,
unfortunately no vendor in Malaysia carried the Vallejo range as they have a policy to only sell a full range to any importers..... Safest bet is still ordering online from luckymodel or to get some from Singapore....unless somac still has a way to import them in

PoohBear - September 23, 2009 12:05 AM (GMT)
Gracias, Loo.

@ choongwk - that's about the gist of it :)

flylice80 - September 23, 2009 06:58 AM (GMT)
Sure hope somebody will import Vallejo and Mig Production Pigments. It's quite inconsistent to scrap and mix pastel chalks.

choongwk - September 24, 2009 06:00 AM (GMT)
Dear Loo / Poohbear,

Thanks.

Cheers
