The back is the hard part to shoot. In real, it looks really reflective, but in photo, the silver flake of the gun metal is too disturbing...

When the Gun metal is not disturbing, the car body color looks so dull....

Sharing:

1. First, gotta give credit to tamiya. This is really a fun kit to build! Have never build such an accurate and smooth building car kit before. Mebbe it's not the case for advance car builder, but for me, it's really good!

2. The new tamiya car model's front n tail light is snap fit, but dont rely on that. During test fit, i didnt really force in the transparent part, and when the real thing, find it too tight! Broke one tail light :(

3. With careful planning, i find that putting real tinted film gives the tint effect the best! But careful, if u have already spray the window trim inside, u may find it's uneven for the film to sit tight on the surface, hence create bubble.

4. Metal transfer gives the realism nothing else can match!

5. Try to strip the chrome on the rim. It definitely makes it more realistic.

6. Beware! Process of car modeling is very different from Gunpla! Plan your steps carefully

7. outdoor photography, remember to bring a soft brush along. Gotta keep on brushing of dust falling on the model......

Afterall, this is a curbside car model and it's suppose to be darn easy to do. However, due to lack of experience, has been struggling for some time with this kit. However, am pretty happy with the end result.

Another problem encounter after everything's done: photography! I m using Gaia's Gun metal as the body color. Really have problem with the reflection. Either i can catch the reflection of the gloss surface and total ignore the color, or the other way round: the Gun metal silver flake is giving me very unrealistic color tone.

That's it for this round, i m all set for this project n ready for my holiday! YeeeHoooo!

C & C welcome. Do shoot! I will try to improve cause next project will also be a car.

Nicely done there Rayloke. The overall build looks very good.

I'm really suprised that the Tamiya kit really have sink mark on the face of the disc brake. This never happens on any Tamiya model kits that I have seen. Maybe this is one of their evil future plans to come out with their own PE parts for the 370Z.

As for the rear light, did you test fit it before painting? If that's the case, you should sand off the paint a bit on the location where the light will be attached. The reason is because Tamiya made the parts to fit in just nice on each part (especially clear parts) that it gives very minimal tolerant on the gaps for the clear parts and the fitting area that even if you have the paint a bit thicker, the clear parts won't be able to fit.

Overall a very excellent build Rayloke. :)

well despite the fact that you missed some details here and there like what you mentioned, i think this is a really cool build. Does not look plastic at all. Looks like a die cast so i guess you did a great job with the paint bro. Nice ;) keep us posted

Bomber Vince - September 15, 2009 02:23 AM (GMT)
man, this is a great build, simple but yet very nice.

Entau - September 15, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
good job, very clean finish... ^_^

bout the rear wiper, did the kit included left and right side drive, if it does, then you can try mod the other remaining wiper for the rear, or buy after market PE :P

bout photography, try not take pic with the sun in front of you like this pic, under expose d :P

Ray,
excellent finish on the body.

ayoi: Thanks bro. ^_^

druid_99: Yeah i m a NOOB in car model hence i choose a curbside, new release kit from tamiya. The disc brake Klay n i also scratching our heads, but no doubt, i should have sand them off. Guilty as charge.

The tail light is a big lesson. I test fit, and it really fit nicely, a little tight. However i forgot the thickness of the paint n top coat; one push, n the light snapped. This is my lack of experience in handling car model. Seeing kits done by all the sifus in the net and really get my hand dirty in doing is definitely something totally different.

Thanks for your comment, appreciate it! ^_^

kuman: Thanks bro. Yeah this set of original Tamiya rim is one of the best !

sky_tokyodrifter & Bomber Vince: Thanks! I might have some experience in Gundam, but in car, i m totally NOOB. Next project is also a car, trying my best to learn from masters like u guys.. ^_^

Entau: Thanks for the tips. Will definitely drop by BLAKe often to check out your Impreza n 350Z's progress.....

Loo CK: Thanks ^_^

Think i missed out something, there r some serious mistakes i made:

1. accidently threw away the door handle. Now wait for Kirin to get his so can cast from it.

2. After posting the photos only i realised thru transportation from indoor to outdoor photography, lost my rear wiper. I think can salvage one of the extra left hand drive front wiper to use at the back :P

3.drill hole at the wrong place on the rear view mirror which only later i realise it is visible after i glue onto the front windscreen. Hence currently no rear view mirror.

I try to make my next project less stupid mistakes like these.

Glossy, Nice and Neat.... ;)

To a new car builder.... you really did a very good job on the finishing. Frankly to tell you, i like the Gun-Metal color from GN on a car compare to TMY. I found the 'metallic flakes' are very fine, comparing your Z34 and my TopSecret Z33.

Hope you able to get the 'handle' and the rear wiper soon ya..

Argh...u make me itch on getting this kit... shall wait for the Nismo Version <_<
