I think the Mogami was released quite some time ago...the cruiser version would be it's sister ship Mikuma.. The Mogami is the carrier version...

AF,
I could be wrong but the Mogami was a cruiser version before retrofitting to accomodate the amount of planes during 1941 in the invasion of Malaya.
It will be a welcomed release as it would have been a pain backdating the current kit.

Hi,
Mogami was first built as a "light cruiser" liker her sister Mikuma. They were initially armed with 5 triple turrets with 15.5 cm guns but were large enough to carry heavier armament.. This was a means to circumvent the London treaty restricting the building of heavy cruisers.
They were refitted for war with 8 in guns and voila, they were now heavy cruisers.
Mogami was badly damaged in a collision with Mikuma and then 5 bomb hits at Midway. She was extensively rebuilt as a heavy seaplane carrier/cruiser and recomissioned in 1943. This is the subject of the current Tamiya kit.
I believe the 1/350 Mikuma is in the light cruiser guise, and the upcoming Mogami will be in the heavy cruiser form, but I may be wrong.

Yup, you guys are right with the 'actual' ship...
I was actually referring to the Tamiya kits... :P
I saw both of them at Tamiya Underground few weeks back...
Mikuma as the cruiser and Mogami as the carrier... And i am determined to get them both when i return next year... \(^^)/
