Title: No International Look-ins?

modelsinfinescale - August 25, 2009 08:29 PM (GMT)
Guys,

I just cleared my workbench and sitting here at 4.20am and noticed there are only 4 guests acessing this site at this hour. This shows very few outside our timezone is looking-in at our forum. What are your thoughts and comments on this?

Patrick

Patrick,
I will tend to agree with you. This, I suspect, is attributed to the fact that very few of us actually post our build diligently and also there is usually a lack of depth in research material available for those who are out surfing for reference materials, and of course malaysian hardware is not really your best looking or favourite subject. Not that there are many available kits on Malaysian subjects out in the market too.....

I live outside your time zone and am always on this site to see what’s new. I live on the east coast of the U.S.

I wouldn’t necessarily say lack of interest in Malaysian modeling or Malaysian models. Modeling in itself is a special interest group and even though this site says it has 881 members, how many members actually build and post on here? Some might only look on here to see what others are doing or to get tips. I am the only one out of my group of friends and family that builds models. Also, where I live, hobby shops are far and few which only allows me to purchase online.

With the skyrocketing prices of models, supplies, shipping costs and the failing economies around the world some people might not be able to afford model building.

Building models should be done for the love of building and for a feeling of self accomplishment and doesn’t matter what subject(s) you build. Just my opinion.

I love building and will continue to build to the day I die. I enjoy seeing everyone else’s builds on here too and this site has some very masterful and creative builders. I also enjoy reading the tips sections as it has greatly helped me improve my technique and skills. Keep up the good work everyone and hope to see more awesome builds and thanks for sharing.

I would like to echo Twong's statement on, "I am the only one out of my group of friends and family that builds models". Out of the 300+ friends i have on Facebook, not including others that dont do Facebook, i am the only one that's into plastic modelling... It is indeed a rare hobby here in Malaysia... When i say i am into modelling, people tend to ask which brand? And when i say scale modelling, they frown their eye brows with a puzzling look..

I think what we need to do 1st, is exposure to local residents..

Many times i joined overseas, namely US forums and many items/shops they mentioned, couldnt be source locally..so it eventually killed my interest in checking out overseas forum. What's more when u couldn't have a weekly or monthly gathering to chat over same interest.

But there's 1 good thing, our kits price are a lot cheaper than either in US, England or Aussie. It's a good thing Asian countries are pumping them out...else i believe there would only be half of the 881 members regisered...

I think what patrick was trying to point out was that amongst modellers, very few in the world global village actually log on to our forum besides Malaysian.
I suppose if there is a overall effort to improve the 'sharing' element in the forum regardless of quality, adn thus improving the friendliness of the forum, I am sure there will be more visitors....

Patrick,
I realised one small problem. The MalaysiaScaleModelling.com site usually has guest looking in but they will have a hard time linking them here as the articles do not point them here. I have just corrected some. Hoepfully it improves.

Cheers
