Title: Academys Oif Mudhen Aka Strike Eagle

SAC33 - August 14, 2009 04:10 AM (GMT)
Am curious on this "new" offering from Academy ... an OIF F 15E... is this true? Would anybody be willing to comment / show pic of this kit here?
Also more importantly, is this kit better than Revell's super F 15E which seems to be the yardstick to date?

I've taken a great interest in this.

From what I can tell from ARC & the Academy site, it is a heavily updated version of their original 1/48 F-15C/D/E kit.

I think Academy did their homework very well - much of the mods added to the F-15E since the early 1990's have been added, but I think it will still be a little bit behind the Revell F-15E in terms of general accuracy. (just an opinion, of course).

Academy however has the advantage of price, more up to date version and a more comprehensive choice of weapons provided.

I've seen the kit. If you don't mind slight inaccuracies (i.e. only visible to people who really know the F-15), then it is quite a good kit. Comes with updated weapons and parts to make a modern USAF Strike Eagle. Also, all the F-15K parts are inside the box and it come with photo-etch too!

Uh oh, the grills on the spine aft of the canopy hinges, and on the top of the intakes are unchanged - the vertical grilles are missing.

I was hoping the retooling would have fixed this.

Poohie, thanks for the review site, although I don't know what they are writing in Korean but as they said "A picture speaks a thousand words ..hehe ... B) B) B)

Overall a pretty interesting retooling ... but did not notice any mention of the "side scoop" that most F 15Es employed during OIF which was part of Wolfpacks update. IS this critical item there?? or did I totally miss this small thingy?

The Chaff / Flare dispenser is a solid PE flim   , what were those manufacturers thinking?? If they can provide the AAN 14 end zone with holes I would have hope for a properly represented Chaff dispenser lol !! Maybe I am asking too much ??!! Maybe not.

The intake screens and seats still leaves much to be desired as well   <_< . I was hoping some bang seat improvements ala Tamiya style but alas no so here ... <_< ... did Academy make any prearrangement with Wolfpack??? <_< <_<

Well hopefully this "retooled" kit retails lower than Revells otherwise its really a coin toss for the average modeller like me ...

We should be able to see them by Wednesday, next week. Price? About the same as Revell's. Very aF4able.

Noticed that the armanment is very extensive ... the decals are also laid out in a very logical format with separators for weapons and plane ... very interesting.

Yes, they are there. Very nicely rendered ones too.

The cooling airscoop/intake on the CFT's (used on 'later' FY90 F-15E's) are also included.
