Title: Malaya Ww2
Description: Kedah
Loo CK - August 12, 2009 03:25 AM (GMT)
During the initial stages of the invasion, Malaya was defended primarily by the British Army and in most part by the Indian conscripts.
This particular vignette started work in Merdeka08 while manning the exhibition desk using the ever versatile Airifx 1:32 multipose figures. Some hacking and chopping was required to get the dynamics of the pose.
The base was salvaged from Tog's stash while the trees were bought from a local KL source. The overall ground work is plaster over styrofoam and sand sprinkles set in with a lot of Futures. The trees will need further work and there is going to be a thick assortment of undergrowth.
Overall, the painting will be done in multishade airbrushing with handpainting highlights. I am not going to be too particular about the details as the Airfix figures will need a lot of work to bring it up to resin or recent Dragon Gen 2 quality.

Hope to finish it these few nights.
Cheers and C&C plus suggestions welcomed!

Great dio, Loo....
I'm now hands full and rushing with the Tugu Project.... I presume my single figure display "Lt Adnan" may not make it to this year Merdeka GB :-(
Just a thought, perhaps U can rename this dio as "Lt. Adnan Last Stand".

CP,
That was the initial plan but the facial features are too much of a challenge to change into Adnan. I have plans to do that later after more research is done on the equipment and actual gear. These guys are in full gear and very unlikely for Adnan's case where they were already at the end of the road.
Look forward to your Adnan in Merdeka2010!

I'm very keen to know, where did you get the trees?
Loo CK - August 12, 2009 06:00 AM (GMT)
flylice80,
The trees were custom made by a friend who makes professional architectural models. His own method using materials bought from some industrial area in Johor.

Loo,
Happen to notice the last Jap infantryman stood at the slope are painted with white helmet? Are U trying to give him the white cork sun helmet? If so, my resource book by Andrew Mollo "Arms forces of WW2" stated the white cork sun helmet saw mostly own by officer mainly commanding officer... not likely worn by infantryman.
Just my 2 cents.
BY the way, is the tree expensive? How much it cost per tree?

CP,
I bought it from him at cost at RM6 per tree.
As for the helmet, I forgot to paint it! khahaha....
Not using the cork helmets for this diorama.
By the way, the Osprey Books ( vol 1 and 2 ) on South East Asia Japanese Infantry is very good

managed to put in a good 8 hours of painting since last post.

at this stage, the face needs a bit more work and some detailing and detailed painting is missing for all figures.
The ground work and vegetation will be next.
C&C welcomed!
cheers,

RM 6 Per Tree!!!
I wanna import 20 of them

Loo,
what colour paint code did U use for the Indian flesh tone? Looks convincing...
Pardon me for asking... since this is a close encounter fight scene.... why didn't the Jap infantrymen fix their bayonets?? As far as I can remember the fixed bayonet maybe the icon of the WW2 Jap infantrymen....
Just my curiosity ....

CP,
actually I wanted them to fix bayonets but there is only 1 spare bayonet????? Haiyo. I may just fix the one bayonet. Better than none. BTW, the Japs have no straps in the mould and I had to fix some masking tape on. No idea why.....
As for the flesh tones, I sprayed it with Tamiya flat brown as a base and then used Vellejo Mahogany brown as highlights and flat black for shadows.
cheers
