No engine grills? what kit is that?

ahhow - August 5, 2009 05:12 AM (GMT)
I suggest not to open the hatches if no interior. The side skirts also too thick, u can make it thinner by sanding down the edge only ^_^

wuichong - August 5, 2009 05:44 AM (GMT)
Ah How:

Hahaha... really thick how many mm to sand? but i lazy to sand it, just let it be.

camo looks good :)

flylice80 - August 12, 2009 07:06 PM (GMT)
Normandy style.... which battalion?

wuichong - August 14, 2009 08:50 AM (GMT)
No idea, because i built and spray follow the BOX ART. Any suggestions?

flylice80 - August 17, 2009 02:27 AM (GMT)
Suggestions? hahah, not much. Eager to see how you would put it.

Anyway, this tiger missed the chance being in the LSSAH 101st, which is one of the most well knowned Tiger Panzer Division. Other than that, it didn't have the special camoflage of the Pz.Abt 509. So... any other divisions will do. It does seem like a tiger for summer 1944 (Normandy or Italy). Some Tiger still have this camoflage until the end of the war. If you wanna do a late war Tiger and specifically bothered about history, you'll need to check coz some Tiger battalions are totally annihilated during Normandy, Italy and Holand (Arnhem) theatres, and recieves brand new King Tigers as replacement later.

Wah, finished already.
Dunno much about Tiger, some comments about finishing and weathering:
I can see brush strokes left during washing i guess?
Chipping looks too even, too "round" and too big.
Tracks should sit on the wheels.
Battle damage looks weird to me, dunno how to explain...

Anyway, Not bad brother, i had seen improvement. ;)
And nice try on zimmerit too, i still dare not to try, hahaha.

Ah How:

I like someone like you to point on my mistake!!! Thanks dude!!! I will correct those minor error!!!

I am happy to hear my friend good comment to let me improve. Come on more suggestions.

About brush stroke, any sample to correct me?

Lee,
1)camo underneath the chipped off zimmerit is technically incorrect.
2) camo on the tracks in a bit unrealistic
3) marking of 313 on chipped zimm area should not be there as the 313 marking would have been on the zimm
4) the destressing or damage on the exhaust guards looks like plastic damage, Its a metal plate so it should have dents or tear and hardly shavings.
5) exhaust smoke dust?
6) agree with How, some chipping looks too rounded

that's all but looks like a real improvement

I thought the Tiger is not finish yet?

There are 2 holes there in the front hull. It was supposed to be having a big shovel installed there, but only in early versions.

Zimmerit for mid and late war tigers are applied at factory before it was painted. So you should paint red primer color (can use Tamiya's Hull Red, add abit of steel color), or steel color at zimmerit chips.

And... yeah.... the effort on the Tiger is great. Somehow the "battleworn" made it look more plastic-like.

Hi Wuichong,

Your zimmerit application looks better than mine, good work. However I tend to agree with the guys about the battle damage. Some parts of the tank is cast steel where you'll get dinks and scratches where else others are thin sheet metal that tend to bend, warp and get punctured. Areas like the stowage bin, mud flaps and exhaust guards.
When it comes to weathering for chipping, take a look at heavy industry vehicles like tractors, cranes and heavy earth movers. You'll find their soft and hard surfaces get that different look. It's quite similar except for small arms fire and deflected shot damage which you'll only get to see on real tank references.

All in all good work. You can still work on the tracks and cover the camo that's accidently oversprayed. I guess if the real tank were to be sprayed in the field, there would be some overspray but would quickly be covered with dirt and rust on the move.

Keep it up.

Richard

some scratch marks on the body would do nicely...to show the well worn out look..the bullet holes around the exhaust pipes looks to clean..in battle condition as shown in reference books usually has some jagged edges around them..overall it looks nice...i am guessing this kit come with photo etch Zimmerit template ?

hello Richard , what happen to your Tiger with bazooka damage hull diorama going ?

flylice80 - September 3, 2009 05:19 AM (GMT)
During traffic jam, I look at these and try to remember how wear&tear, paint chips, mud & dust on vehicles would look like:

Lorry Hantu would normally be a good reference. It has everything you need for Tank weathering, except bullet holes.

Hopefully be a good help for your.

brader...what i suggest is to "Take your time" in building your kits. try to spend more time on it, and dont rush it. i could see you had spend some heavy money on kits, try to make the best out it ...dont rush in finishing. plastic will never rot , so if you dont feel like finishing it, just put it away, perhaps a year or two.
what you lack now is research on the subject, try to find out more on what you are building, ideas will come from there.

bravo2zero - September 4, 2009 05:41 AM (GMT)
An inspiring work indeed as my completed Tamiya Tiger 'Otto Carius' are left 'naked' without any paint nor weathering.
