Title: 1/48 Sh-60b And Mh-60s

twong - July 29, 2009 09:23 PM (GMT)
Here are my Italeri 1/48 SH-60B with Cobra Company decals and Minicraft 1/48 UH-60L converted to USN MH-60S. The Italeri folded rotor blades don't fold right, the outer blades should be folded under the inner blades. The MH-60S only has basic decal data. There are no decals available for MH-60S as of yet so I will have to raid decal spares box or other decal sheet to get unit markings.

Excellent build Twong. I love both the choppers but I don't think I will venture into that because there is just not much space in my house for a helicopter... (but I do have a 1/35 Hind in my stash though... )

Druid, thanks for comment. If you get Italeri or Revell SH-60B you can fold the main rotors. They are not the easiest builds but well worth the build. The Sh-60's are not as big as the CH-53 or CH-46 so if you fold the rotors you will have room to store them.

Sky, thanks for the comments. I am not good at weathering yet but am still practicing. It does have some very subtle weathering on it but the lighting isn't good in the picture.

Tigershark, thanks again. I am on fire right now. I can't stop building. The bug has bit me and I have the building fever. My Hornets are next and should post soon within the next week or so.

Kuman, thanks. The MH-60S has no interior because it is the USN version of cargo chopper. The SH-60B has scratch build interior but you can't see inside because the interior panels pretty much blocks off most of the inside. I will try to post some reference pics for you of both choppers.

Hi Kuman, here are reference pics found off the web and the last pic is my SH-60B interior.

My Italeri interior with scratch build panels. Eduard photo etch makes a set to correct the interior that Italeri forgot but I did not have money to buy.

broder twong,

I admire people like you ;) no money but still can afford to come up with a good product. Lets practise more wheathering bro, you and me the same, I have no idea how to do wheathering because i build mostly cars and the end product is usually bling bling ^_^ so you're 1 step ahead of me hehe ^_^ . I still use spray cans so no chance to practise wheathering but i am learning from other sifu how to wheather using pastel etc. All i can say is its not easy huhu

Bro where to find that bug species? i need it to push my myself to build more models too

Keep us posted with new projects

Hi Sky,
Thanks again. Weathering is a learning process and lots of practice. I just happy when model is done and sits on my shelf. I used to do cars but could never get perfect finish. I do military now to avoid perfect finish. I will have to take a look at your cars and learn how to get perfect finish.

The bug bites once every ten years. It has been that long since I started building again and I am enjoying it again. Too many models and not enough time and not enough space. Need a bigger house.

thanks for the information, i didnt know about the cargo chopper thinggy... learn new thing everyday :D

and thanks for the ref pictures as well.. i too build the italeri one back then (its in this forum somewhere) but my interior is far more simplistic compared to yours (although i try to add some stuff in:p)

good build and post more since you're in the mood now :D

cheers
kuman :D

Hi Kuman,
The MH-60S is similar to the Army UH-60. It is used for cargo and other duties in the Navy that is why the inside is empty.

I saw your SH-60B and it looks really good. Nice weathering on it. I have to start practicing more weathering.

enghui - August 3, 2009 10:53 PM (GMT)
Very nice decalling and lovely job on the scratchbuilt interior too.

twong - August 4, 2009 04:16 PM (GMT)
Thanks Enghui,
Italeri has very sparse interior. I am looking forward to their newest release of the HH-60H RescuHawk. It should be available in stores in my area pretty soon. Finally, guns and hellfires on a HH-60H. Hopefully Italeri supplied those in the kit otherwise I have to raid my Cobra or Apache kits for the hellfires.

I like heli very much, nice work, keep us updated

twong - August 4, 2009 07:04 PM (GMT)
Hi BV,
Heli kits are really cool. They look aggressive with weapons hanging from them that is why I like the USN HH-60H. Here is a ref pic of USN HH-60H I hope to build. I have Cobra Company resin pieces for HH-60H. I took miniguns and M-60 from Academy UH-60 to put on my HH-60 when ready to build. I have to get hellfires from either Academy AH-64 or Italeri AH-1W.
