Title: Photoetch
Description: How to bend them?

farizforce - July 29, 2009 10:00 AM (GMT)
Hi all, could you guys share with me on your method of bending those photoetched materials? especially those small2 parts.

Loo CK - July 29, 2009 11:02 AM (GMT)
you will need to invest in a small hold and fold tool. HHQ does carry one

Otherwise a pair of flat tweezers is absolutely neccessary, but not as accurate. Try Jln Pasar electrical shops

hey..started the tiger already i presume..

you can use a ruler and hold the piece of PE on a flat surface...make sure the bend line is flush with the side of the ruler for a straight bend......just make sure the ruler is nice straight and flat....slip the blade under the piece and push it up...

works for me everytime... B)

hows the tiger anyways?...

A hammer is also very handly. Some PE is very hard to bent. Just ask Mejar from Kangar. He has plenty experience in it.

Not sure whether its appropriate to put here. Well. just to share. I've yet to come to the heavy photo-etching on the body, cause im not sure of how to bend them up, not until i got the tools for it. :)

Mr. B and Fariz,
I still have this PE workstation with me. See pic below. Let me know if you're interested. Price below 100.

B and Fariz,
I reccommend this as the aluminium top piece is far superior than some of the plastic ones I have used earlier. Though small but very ideal for most PE works.

BTW, I use one from this manufacturer too!

Low, TQ for ur acknowledgment, actually, u need to anneal (salai) momentarily some thick PE on fire to bend easily. Thin PE use the one Pemlow have. Its a must for most PE bending. I've got this also from Low.

Some PE work from me:

Talking about Tweezer for bending PE, use a angle HQ type like Goat brand which can easily found on sewing shop. It straight n flat on the tip. Best work on tiny PE.

magnifying glass is optional....unless u have sighting problem....
but a good tweezers is a must! for smaller PE u will need a pair of good hand and also a good tweezers....

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Digging back to my old queries, i thought im gonna continue it from here.. What glue do you guys use for the PE?

I saw some of the PE works here is flawless (i.e i hardly see any glue stain or excess at all). Appreciate the info on this.

I used CA glue and for smaller parts or large flat and even contact surface parts, i used future. Recently i ventured into Gator glue and i think i like it so far..

for CA i used the el cheapo RM3 thinned CA glue sold at most hardware shops. Put a few drop onto a tape (adhesive side) and then apply with tooth pick or stretched sprue or fine wire...

gel type CA i used occasionally and no preferences on the brand, whatever i found cheap will do... and prior to every application, i always wash the PE parts and sometime i sand the contact surface with 600 grit sand paper

Also try using an Accelerator on the super glue. You may get these from Radio Control shops.

Farizforce, I used ORIGINAL Selleys CA Glue or UHU CA Glue which is nice to my preferences since it dries a bit slow. This property sometime is needed for 'adjustment'.

Gluing PE also need you to be more patience and steady hand. For cleaning up the CA residue, u might as well tried ACETONE or NAIL POLISH REMOVER which can be found easily at the Women section in any decent supermarket. Then lightly scrape it with any modelling knife.

Farizforce.

Some point that I missed to add is: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH OF CA GLUE, it dries too slow and smearing!!! Use pin/sharp tool to transfer CA from tube to subject like making dot or stitching...

Once the glue part mated, than run along the joint with pin with thin CA blob. That will further mate the PE part. This will make your PE job cleaner.
