OOPS! Forgot one picture. Refueling probe bay is from Steel Beach and the probe is metal tubing.

Great work!
You sure know your F-14's - the VF-154 jet also has BOL launch rails fitted.
Are the BOL rails aftermarket items?

Great work... they look sexy! B)
Did you hand painted the canopy windshield for your academy F-14? The black color looks abit different from the black color at surrounding. :D

Thanks everyone.
F-4dable, the BOL rails are resin from Steel Beach. They make a lot of F-14 parts.
Flylice and Kuman, the Superscale decal instructions say black for the tail and canopy. My reference book shows this exact plane with very dark blue tail and canopy. The only black is from the front windshield to the pitot tube.
Also the VF-32 internet homepage has this exact plane showing the blue. The blue color I think is FS15044 which is also used on the tails of CAG VFA-192 Hornets and CAG VMFA-212 Hornets. I am doing both of those Hornets and will post when they are done.
VF-84 is also my favorite. I posted my Academy 1/48 F-14A and F-4J with those markings a few weeks ago on this forum.

Yes, I was just thinking the VF-32 decal used is by Superscale, and is probably for an Desert Storm era F-14A.
The one from Fightertown mentioned by kuman is for a F-14B.
Have to say that VF-32's boss bird / CAG bird seems to maintain a more or less consistent scheme.
Was never a big follower of CAG schemes, but I would be lost even if I did.
So many decal companies made decals for what appears to be more or less the same scheme (with minor variations), applied to different aircraft.
Twobobs also did one, but it was for the OIF era.

Hi F-4dable,
Superscale sheet 48-897 is for Desert Storm F-14A. Two Bobs sheet 48-056 is for F-14B from OIF. Two Bobs does not call out the blue tail on their instructions. I have both because I like to build colorful planes and ones with kill markings and mission markings, they make for interesting subjects.

Terrence,
I got both the Academy and Monogram tomcat, which one is easier to build?
twong - July 27, 2009 08:45 PM (GMT)
Thanks Zendened, I have more in the works but am finishing up three Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18C Hornets and an Italeri 1/48 SH-60B Seahawk.
Masterqq, both the Academy and Monogram are very similar. I think that Academy copied the Monogram and made it recessed lines. The way they both go together are almost exactly the same. Academy nose and forward fuselage is a little out of scale compared to Monogram and Hasegawa. Overall, I like Academy a little better than Monogram because of the recessed lines. Hasegawa is the best but really hard to put together and very expensive.
Here is an update to my latest Monogram F-14A. I changed the missile load to twin Sidewinders instead of Sparrows.
