Title: 1/35 Italeri Dukw
Description: British Royal Army

PoohBear - July 20, 2009 12:51 PM (GMT)
Time to hatch this duck from the egg :)

Start with the cabin by reworking the pedal and added a couple of pull knobs (at least, I think that's what they are) and also some trailing wires from the gauges.

What is that wriggly thing in the vertical center just right of the instrument gauge ? A mould defect or supposed to be wires?
user posted image

Drilled out air scoop vents and replaced with wire mesh.

Thanks for viewing and C&C welcome as usual.

landyshah - July 21, 2009 01:43 AM (GMT)
Ah! Its begun..Huey, Duwey and Louie.... :D

I think those "lines" on the instrument panel is supposed to be the wiring for the windscreen wiper ?

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 01:50 AM (GMT)
Thought of that too.

Further, in one of the ref photos, there's a box mounting right where that wriggly thingy is. Don't know what that box is or if it was common for ducks to have

sky_tokyodrifter - July 21, 2009 02:25 AM (GMT)
hoho 2 ducks already. Duck tales wohoooo, ^_^

How is the scheme for this itik going to be like? Then the ducks can swim side by side ^_^

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 02:42 AM (GMT)
Where's Unca Scrooge? ^_^

This one will be in light grey during the emergency.

By the way, does anyone have a photo of the grating between the driver cabin & the cargo bay?

thnx & cheers

landyshah - July 21, 2009 03:32 AM (GMT)
Pooh, dunno if this helps - its the Eduard PE fret - you can see the grate there

user posted image

This is the set I ordered...still waiting for it

Ah, you are going for light grey too....How will you tackle the grey compared to Holy P's build?

Loo CK - July 21, 2009 03:37 AM (GMT)
Bear,
where did you get the fine mesh from?
and... where's the magic putty worm works??? missing trademark :P

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 03:51 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the photo, Shah.

Do you know if that PE grate replaces the kit part completely? Kinda doubtful about how it looks now...

Loo, the mesh is leftover (courtesy of Imran) from F&F4 campaign and if I'm not wrong he mentioned it was from Multifilla.

Was going to save the worms for later but since you mention it, yeah, putty worms will be coming soon. Hopefully for a mixed bag of brass & icky worms.

cheers

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 04:00 AM (GMT)
Oops. Forgot to reply your Q on the light grey.

I haven't given it much thought yet other than to lighten the FS36375 somewhat. I'm all eyes for suggestions :)

cheers

landyshah - July 21, 2009 04:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Im not sure either, thats why ive not fitted the kit part until the PE set arrives....seems to be a huge contrast on what the kit gives (looks like a house gate!) and the PE...and whether the PE goes under the kit part or replaces it completely....

I will let you know of course when it arrives

As for colour, Id tend to think that its lighter....a very pale grey or near white actually...if you recall this picture:

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 04:27 AM (GMT)
From a few coloured photos floating around, it looks to be a light & slightly pale bluish grey? PMMS review mentions pale grey too.

http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/revi...eri/it6466.html

Could it be that the B&W photo was taken on a bright sunny day compounded with exposure settings making for an almost white duck? Or maybe its been bleached...

aaaargh..this is enough to drive anyone quackers....

Doubt it bro, this was film photograpy...no such thing as white balance then..and the exposure looks fine to my eye.. If you study the contrasts between the various shades of black and grey (eg compare the letter in the number plate which are white to the hull) can see that it should be quite light grey

Maybe best you just go for a best guess light grey and finish with it haha...have a steamed Duck compared to Holy P's :D

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 06:23 AM (GMT)
Well, worry about it when it's time to paint

Thanks for your input & suggestions.

cheers

landyshah - July 21, 2009 08:18 AM (GMT)
Pooh, PE set arrived...I can tell you that the PE grate completely replaces the kit part. So, a fine mesh would do, using the kit part as a template

PoohBear - July 21, 2009 09:02 AM (GMT)
Thanks Shah.

Looks like its back to the hatchery for this duck...

Loo CK - July 21, 2009 09:06 AM (GMT)
shah,
ponteng kerja kah?

landyshah - July 21, 2009 10:01 AM (GMT)
LOL i wish lah bro, the package came to me earlier, so open and see la hahahah..but now im home !

PoohBear - July 28, 2009 12:11 PM (GMT)
Small progress...

Worms are back in season. The grate is a compromise with kit part & wire mesh.

Full complement of pedals, levers & knobs installed.

More worms under the dash. Care to count 'em? ^_^

Hi Jason

If you noticed from the pics that i had posted, you'll see that the motors for the wipers are positioned differently, but i suspect they would still incorporate the same sort of motors. Maybe you could scratch build those too.

sllim

PoohBear - July 28, 2009 04:18 PM (GMT)
Thanks Lim. Looks like different species of duck have slightly different accessories. Having thoughts about what to add & what not to add

landyshah - July 28, 2009 04:33 PM (GMT)
Pooh my man, Great worm work as usual :D

The wiper motors seem to changed over the life of the Duck...according to ref the earlier one used vacuum and later compressed air....but then you wont go far off with some kind of cylindrical thingy to represent it

Also, u can add a little lever on the instrument panel...just to left of the dividing line. That raised line there is where the tire pressure lever is mounted...its a short lever with a red knob on it

Anyways, seems like there are many many detail variations among ducks...so for me at the end, just go with one and if it looks right enough lah...suggest you save urself the stress and not go into rivet counter territory too :D

PoohBear - August 2, 2009 02:12 PM (GMT)
Small update :)

Continue to work on the cabin...

landyshah - August 2, 2009 02:24 PM (GMT)
Looks great man! I see the details from my PE set is helping...you could pull another worm or two up to the wiper motors as those run from the white thingy you put on the dash....

I wonder, though...how u gonna paint all that..or does it all dismantle?

BTW, I moved the two seats back when i glued them on..cos it just doesnt make sense the way they are mounted...if you look at the drivers seat and steering wheel..there is no way anyone can fit in there or drive the thing.....

Loo CK - August 2, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
spaggetti galore!

Landy: he paints them on!

PoohBear - August 3, 2009 12:37 AM (GMT)
Yup, Shah, your detail set is helping out some. Also the various reference pics including the very useful ones from LimSL. And throw in a pinch of guess work.

The seat angle in relation to the pedals & steering column seems kind of odd. Must be weird driving at an angle. How far back did you shift the seats?

Oh, and the worms are mating right now. Let's not interrupt them just yet ;)

landyshah - August 3, 2009 01:58 AM (GMT)
Pooh, the I moved the seat about 3-4mm back and angled it to face more towards the steering wheel/pedals...until it looked "right" to my eye wihout looking too out of place....

If it looks right, it is right :P

PoohBear - August 3, 2009 04:11 PM (GMT)
Continue with another small update :)

We move a little further south to add some rather minor stuff. The clamp is from sheet styrene and the bottle from styrene rod.

I think there is another accessory just beside the right gun case mount? Have no idea what it looks like so any help is appreciated.

Loo CK - August 3, 2009 11:38 PM (GMT)
wah...
so many additions. Tough act to follow my Beary friend

PoohBear - August 4, 2009 12:17 AM (GMT)
Have to channel the regret for not holding on for the PE set somewhere ^_^

PoohBear - August 9, 2009 04:27 PM (GMT)
Continue with this ugly duckling ^_^

We move to the tail end of this fowl only to encounter an ugly ugly bad seam, which is easiest to deal with by...
user posted image

...overlaying with a piece of thin styrene sheet. The sides are taken care of the old fashion way i.e. putty and sanding.
user posted image

Turning over, we add the hull stiffeners from some lengths of triangle styrene.
user posted image

MiG production wheels. And very nice too.
user posted image

MiG production suspension & crank shafts. Pity they will not be seen unless turned over.
user posted image

Still undecided to go for closed or open top...

And now, fresh from the primer shop...

I always loved model kits in primer... it shows all the small2 details on the model kit... :D

PoohBear - August 10, 2009 02:34 AM (GMT)
Yup, it does that very well. Wonderful stuff, primer. ^_^

landyshah - August 10, 2009 02:54 AM (GMT)
Jason, you could just put the decals on now and finish the kit haha...looks sort of like the final grey

Those MIG wheels are nice!

PoohBear - August 10, 2009 03:19 AM (GMT)
Indeed. Would really make things easier for me then.

cheers

Loo CK - August 10, 2009 11:48 AM (GMT)
