Title: Project 904 Viper Gb.
Description: My First in GB.

TigerShark - July 14, 2009 05:35 PM (GMT)
Since joining this forum early this year, found out that my skill level is max2 from the scale of 1 to 10. Many things here are basically new to me and need to learn some more in order to be a better modeller. So, I decided to join the Viper GB as to challenge myself to do better. :D :D

First thing I did is built myself a new work area complete with mini spray booth. This is the area I'm going to built and painting my model kits. As you can see, the works area is kinda small, the mini spray booth also seconded as smoke sucker as well. :D :D

Wow! An ambitious project indeed Larrance.

One thing you forgot to get is the Hasegawa scribing template. I got mine in HHQ way back when it was in City Square. It is a thin stainless steel sheet template with various shapes and lines that will make it easier to scribe panel lines. Alternatively you can use DYMO tape as a guide.

wohoo... another Viper's Nest in the making :D

nice idea to see u use the plastic in the wing-root... i used the same method on one of my viper but didnt do so on the other one... it seems some needed and some dont need it.

u have the River maker... once you've used it.. can share a lil review of the thing? :D

keep them coming..

As for the scribing, as u can see, I totally new to this and must need lots of practicing on it. Yeah! may get the template as well during my next visit to HHQ.

Yup! I think this "mulut ular" not so easy to sand and like the real "ular", we have to be careful with their "mulut".
Bro PoohBear showed me how to sand it by using toothpick with sandpaper. Going to try out this weekend but instead of toothpick, I will use the satay stick... :D :D

larrence, I really the Lidah ular.

as for my suggestion, u can "patah" the "stick" it's too thick in this scale, and it's easier to sand. before u "patah" it, mark the place by scribing a mark.

after things are smooth, just cut a 1mm plaplate to the correct length then stuff in.
(my kinetic viper was build this way)

gampate Larrence san!!

I need help on the tinting of the canopies. My understanding from the Forum here, we can use Future to tint. Well just brought the Future, but what I did, it does not seem to be working. As this is also the first time for me, it kinda help me a lot is all the sifus here can give me step by step instruction here.
My method 1 : Mixed future with sarsi cordial. Not Working.
My method 2 : Mixed with Acrylic paint. More Worst! The mixture become like gloo or something from Mars. Am I doing it wrong or plain stupid?
Appreciated very much if all the sifus can help me out.

Tinting of canopies is especially hard. I've never actually tried it with Future but from what I heard, it works well with food dye. Also, Future is water-based so mixing acrylic paints inside is a definate no-no.

Here's an article that *might* help. :D

LINK HERE

mr b - July 27, 2009 12:32 AM (GMT)
Mr T.S

You can also tint your canopy with a mist spray of Smoke colour (Gunze Aqua range)........mixed with water or rubbing alachol 80 30 ratio very dilute.......I usually use this method........not from inside but from outside........paint the frame .........and then ....mask the frame.......and spary the smoke........however this is best done just before the model is complete....to avoid residue mask on the sparyed ......smoke.......

druid_99 - July 29, 2009 12:38 AM (GMT)
Good progress there Larrance but you still need more practice on the airbrush and colour dilution ratio. It looks like you put a bit too much thinner or you spray the paint a bit too close to the parts. Try spraying at a distance of about 10cm from the model kit and adjust the distance from there.

Lan: I got the blue food colouring and it is already expired so I can use it without the HM making noise... then again... still can use ke??? If still can use, then I can pass a bit to you when I went back to Kulim.

Dear Kuman san,
You're right! According to my HM, for the colour Yellow and Red are common and as for the Green and Blue, there are uncommon.
Yup! requested HM to do my shopping this weekend. :D :D
HM said that if can't find the Green is because normally for food colouring, most of the HMs used pandan leaves for the green colouring. ;) Pandan leaves anyone? :D :D
As for Blue, I think it's uncommon because I think no anyone want to eat any food that's Blue in colour, right? I sure don't. :D :D

My mixing ratio is 1paint : 2thinner. Tmy Acrylic Paint & Thinner.
Will change to 1paint : 1thinner the next session.
I'm also sprayed too close to the parts as well. First time spray and actually too excited also. :D :D
I still need lots of tunjuk ajar here and your "TA" are valuable to me here for my further improvement always.

Once again, Thanks and regards, Imran san.
