Shalom...nothing wrong with your Merkava, it is another fine built..perhaps just put in extra gears on the turret to give it that extra ommpph !
just wondering on your color ..is it suppose to be natural olive drab or mixture of sand yellow plus olive ? somehow reference pic of Isreali tanks somewhat ambiguous to pinpoint the exact color scheme.. <_<
overall it is an excellent built..
choongwk - July 8, 2009 05:55 AM (GMT)
Looks fine to me. :D Your weathering is just perfect.
Blackheart - July 8, 2009 06:32 AM (GMT)
 no need to argue..good work..crowd wave..congratulation
msyamal - July 8, 2009 06:38 AM (GMT)
i have nothing to critic!! sandtastic build!! ;)
ahhow - July 9, 2009 01:28 AM (GMT)
Thanks guys for all the kind words.
Kay: I wonder how is the "extra gears on turret" look like?
For the color, i mix olive drab with yellow and black, and finally lighten the tone with white. In my opinion, to get the exact color of Merkava tank is not so important, coz all the reference i found has different color and tone, just follow the 1 u likes most, haha.
enghui - July 10, 2009 01:26 AM (GMT)
I love it, it has the heavy look. The tone of green looks right to me.
The antennas on the roof look interesting.
Maybe you could take a picture with a darker background so we can see them clearer?
Much appreciated!
love,
ahhui

ahhow,
You are too modest-lah (pai-seah).
Nothing wrong with this build. It looks very realistic to me.
ahhow - July 11, 2009 04:00 AM (GMT)
Thanks again guys.
Ahhui: Thanks brother, nothing special with the antennas, haha. Will try to shot with dark background if i have dark paper... i dun have currently.
F-4dablemodels: Thanks brother, actually many things wrong on this kits, can't understand why manufacturer always produce kits with so much accuracy mistakes.
musangpulut - July 11, 2009 06:22 AM (GMT)
Damn! The most nicest Merkava Mk3 I ever seen! Eventhough I never like armors, but this build make me wet! haha
I always love every military hardwares that designed by Israel especially the EW suites for aircrafts, air-to air missiles & their tank design. All was designed based on their own hand-on experiences during wars with the Arabs.
And the Merkava Mk4 look like a spice-up flying saucer. The turret design is futuristic and very efficient to deflect an anti armor missiles. I think Malaysia should buy this tank rather than the chubby looking,1970s T-72 based design, PT-91M.
Enough bullshitting. Keep up your great works and please share with us your weathering techiques!

hi Ahow
this tank is nice you have put much efforts in it . however i di agree there are a lot of inaccuracy with acedemy ( i sold of the kit long time ago)
but nice work really
ahhow - July 13, 2009 01:34 AM (GMT)
Thanks again guys ^_^
Musangpulut: Trust me, i had seen much better one, haha. Also disagree you with the MK4's turret, i think it look like turtle...hahaha
Even though the latest MK4 kits is much much better than this one, but it still not come with anti skid pattern, plus i especially don't like the PE chain ball, what a big disappointment. So, dun expect me to build 1.
Sentry: There are so much more to be add/modify if i want, but i already felt tired... I enjoy painting and weathering more than modify/amendment <_<

it's not your fault the model is inaccurate... ^_^
Top marks for the build & paint work.
btw, I think the Mk.4 turret looks like a wok, turned upside down. ^_^

A+++++++++++++++++++........Malaysian modllers are not chopped liver. Have guys like you and enghui been exbhibiting your work internationally either at shows or through well known websites?

F-4dablemodels:Thanks for your kind words.
Patrick:Thanks. Not sure about Ahhui, but i got posted my work on Chinese base website from Taiwan, HK, and China. But i never post on Mat salleh's website lar, got communicate problem. :P
I did saw Blackheart's build in some well known website, mat salleh also jaw drop for his scratch build projects, hehe. ;)

No prob with the communication. English I presume is the stumbling block? Modelers from all over the world post their stuff and I have come across poor command of the language which nobody cares two xxxxxx. It's the finished work and interest in the hobby that counts.
Rots of ruck

He did... :D
Alpha7 - July 15, 2009 09:02 AM (GMT)
Ahhow, how did you do the ball chain armour? From what I know about you, you probably used some low-cost alternative. I would like to replicate that on my Academy Merk II. ;)
ahhow - July 16, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)
Druid_99: OK, that's cool...!
Alpha7: Here's an illustration i made

Some notes:
-Try to find the chain and balls that suit the scale, mine is over scale, failed to find smaller 1.
-Refer to the real thing, it has 60++ chained ball, I only made 40++, over scale, not much place to fit more.
-The joint of the chain to the basket is not like what i did, please refer to the real thing if u want an accuracy build.
Hope this help. ^_^
enghui - July 16, 2009 02:35 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the clear illustration ahhow.Another mystery unravelled.
When going into war zone bigger balls are always needed. ^_^
Lots of love,
ahhui
Alpha7 - July 16, 2009 02:55 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the explanation, ahhow. I had thought of using the chain from the sink plug but they appear too big. Like you, I haven't found one that is to scale yet. :P

Either that or a few shots of a stiff drink..... ;)

hoho stiff drink always welcomed! :P
another option for balls might be the ones you get when you break open an old water filter canister, but you would have to drill.
ahhow - July 17, 2009 03:48 AM (GMT)
Thanks for viewing guys.
Alpha7: As Ahhui said, maybe u can consider to stick to bigger balls... Just forget about the accuracy... Hehe
flylice80 - July 20, 2009 12:10 PM (GMT)
I recently just finished a Merkava MK2. Yeah... the stupid balls in the kit are too large. I use the cheap chain necklace for the chains. You can get those for just a few ringgit in Kota Raya. But somehow the balls are too large and.... in my opinion... it look quite dumb.
How did you do on the anti-skid surfaces? glueing fine sands? I did it by applying a layer of cement on the surface, then sprinkler very fine sands on it. After it dries, I then use sand papers to ground it... It's a time wasting job. How did you do it?

Thanks for reply. As for the chains ball, u can also chose to use after market parts.
And a simple building progress can be view here:

Well, I completed the Merk II somewhere end of last year or early this year. It was a quick and budget project, I didn't get any aftermarket parts for that. I built it OOB with just scratch anti-rpg chains and anti skid.
I started on the chains before I start the turret construction. I blindly trusted the balls provided by the kit, and scale the chain based on that. I bought the chain from jewelry shop ( few ringgit per length), cut them and glue the balls to it. I have the photos of that part taken on my mobile.
I regretted that mistake, the oversize ball problem is somewhat similar or worse than your model. I should have gone for aftermarket parts. I spend quite sometime on the chains as well.
Can anyone show me how to post photos?
PoohBear - July 22, 2009 08:03 AM (GMT)
Follow the link for how to post photos.
Posting photos
flylice80 - July 22, 2009 10:55 AM (GMT)
My first try posting photos. :D Testing Testing 1 2 3
Sorry for the some blur image, I took it from my mobile phone.

This photo, I use needle to store the finished chains, pin them on the polyfoams hanging. I also pin the chain length, easier for me to cut it using small plyers.

Glue them onto very thin nylon string. Ooopps... now I find them too out in scale.
My other pictures are too blur, so I'm posting 2 of them only. I'll take photo of my finish model and post it some day, after I manage to get a better camera.
Edit: Oooppps.. sorry, I think they are too large.
PoohBear - July 23, 2009 12:07 AM (GMT)
Flylice80, good of you to share your photos but you should start your own thread instead of using bro ahhow's.
ahhow - July 23, 2009 01:05 AM (GMT)
I think your chain balls is closer to the real tank's scale.
Some more u used PE for the turret's basket, it look nice.
Can't wait for your completed build.
