Help is needed here ~

Hi people!
We all know to substain hobby such as Modelling and Craft, demands for hardwaares and tools are limitless. Unless you've given up or (touchwood) Phok Kai ! :P
Since I'm living in Kelantan (East Coast), it's a nerve breaking job! I've tried many alternative materials and tools (money well spend) and to the end ... that's why Tamiya, Gunze Sangyo and others still able to sell thier products so well.
I would like to know is there any good [/B]MALAYSIA Hobby Shop Website that you knew ? Any kind is ok with me as long as it's a Scale Modelling related, do deliveries and fair price.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
For your info, most of the shops highlighted in the MalaysiaScaleModelling.com website have article features on local shops and most of them do entertain deliveries. You will need to call the respective shops and they will be happy to let you know what they carry and how much delivery costs.
I know of a few forumers who run internet shops too.
You should PM forumers like tkting, acheo, pcevo, etc....

Hello,

This is my first post here. How do you do?

I live in KL and I also have problems with model shops. I've been in this hobby since 1988 when I was 8 years old. In the 90's there are alot of shops around.

History here goes like this:

I remember Jaya Supermarket offers a wide range of products, including VP during the 80's and early 90's. Then, it stopped the department and I switch to individual shop in Section 14 ( I remember Lawrence ran that shop). John was running a shop in Bukit Bintang and there was another in Cheras area. Then 1 Utama showed up and all of these closed down and moved to a shop in I utama, ran by John. Later, that closed down too in.... erm... late90's or early millenium, shifted to a large store in Mid Valley. Couple of years back, that shop also closed down. They had a huge discounts there just before they closed.

Now the only option is the shop in City Square, Jalan Ampang. A very respected old shop, running for like.... more than 20 years. Other than that, there are no shops with respectable inventory. If KL is like this, I think Kuantan will be much worse.

1 Utama has a shop in the basement selling only Tamiya stuffs. The last time I went there, there are not much model kits and mostly are RC stuffs. Nowadays I go to the shop in Damansara Jaya, run by a guy name Vincent. His core business is to built models for customers. Kits are very limited, but surprisingly he has all the popular goodies and new releases. You can order stuffs from him, but it'll take time.

Initially I didn't like purchasing anything from the internet. I prefer to see the kit, open it and check everything. I had alot of experiences getting Hasegawa Kits without the cockpit windscreen..... something it's almost impossible to scratch build. Now I had to get things off the internet. I met a guy on ebay and he directed me to this forum.

Will there be a day when Military Modeling is as hot as Golf in Malaysia? I'll be looking forward to it.

Tamiya Underground

HHQ is the one in City Square? Probably the most respectable and oldest still-running model shop in KL history.

Miniature Hobby moved to Section 14? Woooww.... that's a big surprise to me. Thanks for the tips. I remember Lawrence ran an outlet there during the 90's, then moved to 1U, then Midvalley, now back there again ar?

TU is a big disappointment. although it's the nearest to my house.

I saw in the link that Miniature is moving to this address June 2009:

No. 48-3, Jalan Merlimau,
OFF Jalan Kenanga,
55200 Kuala Lumpur.

Any idea where it is?

I haven't been keeping track of model shops in KL. I was in Australia from 2001 till 2004, and was in Pakistan since end of 2007 till 2008. When I came back from Australia, the shop in 1U was gone. Then I accidentally found it in a corner of Midvalley. When I came back from Pakistan, that disappeared again.

Thanks for the tips. Is there any time and place members over here would gather for a tea?

Flylice80,

HHQ no longer in City Square but shifted to Metro Pudu area in KL. Send a PM to pemlow for further clarification / directions.

MH is about a five minute drive away from there. Check their homepage for a map.

MH location

Thanks alot.

I'll probably check out MH this sunday afternoon. So, if i come from the Petaling Street direction, do I need to turn to left after the BHP at the traffic light? Or issit better I go straight underpass the trafficlight, then turn left after the school?

Metro Pudu ar.... is it near Shaw Parade? I'll check out google earth.

If you turn left at the BHP station, you wouldn't be able to turn into Jalan Kenanga. I think you can go straight down Jalan Maharajalela but DON'T USE THE UNDERPASS as you wouldn't be able to turn left after that.

Easier way is to come from Times Square/Pudu Jail direction towards Hang Tuah Firestation. Jalan Kenanga is the small road just before the Firestation.

flylice, HHQ is in Fraser Business Park aka old F&N Factory next to Jln Loke Yew/Jln Sungai Besi roundabout. If you know where Federal Bakery is...it's near there. Basically, if you're coming from Jln Petaling that side, go straight through the underpass, then keep left (to avoid going up the flyover to Cheras). You'll reach the Jln Loke Yew/Jln Sungai Besi roundabout. From there, head towards 12 o'clock. then turn left. And then another left turn (er...i usually ignore the "No Entry" sign. lazy to drive 1 big round). Look for parking space. Then look out for this shop call HILTI. HHQ is next door on the 1st floor (the entrance has this S2 Slimming thingy on it).

Quite a few of the members hang out there on Saturday. 2pm onwards. Worse come to worse, if they're not there...you can hang out wif Pemlow. And if the doors are closed around that time, don't fret...chances are everyone went down for a drink/lunch at the nearby kopitiam/mamak stall/pakistani stall.

As for MH, after BHP go to the traffic light (don't go through the underpass). Then go straight. Turn left after the school. Go straight, then another left before the San Peng flats. Go straight to the junction (market will be on your right), turn left and start looking for a parking space. MH is somewhere on your left. 3rd floor...

Thanks.

Another thing, what's SFTPMS?

PoohBear - July 22, 2009 06:29 AM (GMT)
SFTPMS = Selangor & Federal Territory Plastic Modelling Society

There's a short writeup on our website but if you need more info, just ask away or better yet, come meet the guys at their regular haunt which is typically HHQ on Sat as mentioned above.

Bro,

for MH, i had to avoid the underpass...just go up straight and then turn left after the school just before Shell....a few metres next, turn left at the trafic light and go straight up until u see a T..take left and u will see maybank... MH is just 2 shop lot away from Maybank
