Title: 1/16 Figures
pesa - July 3, 2009 07:01 AM (GMT)
Here are 2 1/16 figures dated 7 years ago. Found em in one of the boxes after tidying up the store room. It's my first effort on figures and not really up to par with the more experienced modellers in here; but i'll just post em for fun. C&S welcomed.
Need to do a better job at dark wash next time. Any tips on the right color for it? I think i used some kind of reddish brown.
I'm not sure what I did wrong but the paint cracked with weird coarse texture. I'm sure it wasn't like that last time. Any idea what happened?

WOW Pesa, if this is your first attempt on figure painting, you got to be joking, right? I mean the result is very good indeed.
About draker Wash as U mentioned, normally we donot apply wash for large scale figure such as these... but hey no one said it cannot be done too... I mean as long as the final effect hit the target as you want it to be... The reason I donot apply wash like what we do for tank, is merely worry the "wash" may "destroy" the original colour painted on the uniform... such as U may ruine the fine color of the German grey or worst darken the Olive Drab of a US GI....
Perhaps in my view you may consider applying more and heavier shades of shadow on those folds...
The first one is obviously a Dragon 1/16 production which I particularly dislike the head cause he comes with a smiling face. But I see you did a good job by adding a cigarette on his mouth which actually hidden the smile....
OK about the crack paint thing.... What paint did you use anyway?? I presume the cracking maybe due to too thick and dry...

CPTan, thanks for the advice...I finished both models some 7 years ago and kept it a box. I'm pretty sure that the cracking happened between then and now. Now that you mentioned it, maybe I did pain it a bit thick.
What about those dark lines/shades on the face. How to do it properly? Last time I just hentam only.
Currently looking for more 1/16 figures to do. Anyone have any to sell? ^_^ ^_^

I agree with CP its a good first time effort Pesa. The muted camo on his Zeltbahn came out quite well.
Cracked paint, hmmm.....heard it happen to enamels but not to acrylics. Acrylics often need to be diluted as they are too thick to apply directily off the bottle. 1/16th figures are easier on the eyes, especially me old eyes but they can be a challenge first time as you can't hide mistakes. That's why washes are seldom ever used on big scale figures unlike minis (25 mm) or 1/72nd where washes are common.
Here's a trick I often use for the big scales. Your eyes are quite well done but if you want to add a realistic touch just paint a thin layer of gloss or satin over the eyeballs after they have been painted. They give a watery look to the eyes. At 1/16th I normally line just inside the eyelids where it meets the eyeball with a fine, thin pinkish red.
Do keep them coming.

Saw that at MH last weeks, but the uniform for the Russian are quite plain...tadak 'umphh'.
CK, thanks for the sample...man, that's such a small area to work on when u talk about the reddish line...
I'm still experimenting with tools to pain the white dot (cornea) on the black part of the eye...will use needle next time...my fine tip brush not very suitable (maybe coz it's a rm5 brush!) ^_^ ...
