I have got the same kit too, but something happened to the tracks. They broke at different locations, so i had to hide those broken links under the tank's skirt. Phew.. I have got another un-built still in box. The fit is super.

Your tank looks great!!..Cannot have enough Tigers (king or otherwise)

love the weathering and the camo (especially on the barrel).... IMO the exhaust are too 'orangey', perhaps some brown/rust pastels can fix it.... and i see u added the PE engine grilles too :)

Dear Silantra and Poohbear,

Yes. I agree with both you. The grasses are out of scale. :D Thanks.

Dear seelianglim,

Glad you like it. Thanks.

Dear moJimbo,

I think the exhaust looks too "orangey" too. Will try to tone it down. Thanks.

I found that the tracks that comes with the Tamiya kit doesn't look good. It looks quite thin. Should I go and buy separately? What's your comment on the tracks you have worked on?

choongwk - July 23, 2009 06:57 AM (GMT)
Dear flylice80,

Sorry, I can't offer you an opinion about the thickness of the Tamiya track as I am no expert in the tracks.

IMHO, if you want your kit to look more realistic, the individual link tracks is the way to go.

My apology for not being of much help.

Good luck in your build and looking forward to seeing it built.

Cheers!

how much does a Tamiya king tiger cost in malaysia nowdays?

here in jakarta its about Rp420,000 (abt rm138) while the smart kit from Dragon is Rp280,000 (abt rm87)
i guess Tamiya should be more expensive than Dragon in Malaysia too right?
now the question is why would one wanna waste time on the Tamiya King tiger? the details are poor, inaccurate in many palaces, toy rubber tracks and very few options. the older Dragon king tiger is junk, but the newer smart kit is a class on its own, and above all its cheap. its kits like this that would put detail junkie like me out of work.
btw ...the new Dragon kits no longer comes in its famous soft plastic...at least we have a manufacturer who is listening to the needs of modellers

u guys in jakarta are lucky.... tamiya tigers are still cheap at rm130-150 (though difficult to find) while dml new kits are easily >rm200++

your not kidding huh, dml kits at rm200++ :o
no wonder you guys are still buying tamiya, hahaha.
anway im really surprise the price of dml are that expensive in malaysia, the latest arrival in jakarta are priced at rp400,000 (rm130) and the guys are making alot of noise , but then theres still alot of premium editions, 3 on 1 edition dml kits priced at rp260,000. and seriously i doubt the price is gonna stay at that for long, it will skyrocket soon or later. Dragon is in the big league now, no longer are they the poor cousin of tamiya....and the price of their product will increase. modellers worldwide are very impressed by their kits and you could say dragon got them by the bal%#, so no matter how much they increase the price, modellers will still buy.
the same thing happen with tamiya a long time ago, they started off as cheap kits in the 70s, and once they became household name, the price skyrocketted...3 folds.

the signs are there braders, thats why im doing alot of dragon buying, get it while its still cheap.

The latest buy for me was DML Panther V 'Coelian' priced at RM89.90 which I consider under RM100 is affordable. I do noticed that latest model price are between RM150 to RM200++ which is for me, when it comes to start a new project, I will delay until I'm really ready. Don't want to loose any parts.

Tamiya 1/35 King Tiger is really awesome and being able to complete it, is an achievement. An outstanding job indeed.

Faisal :)

wow nicely done. The camo is excellent. I think I'm going to attempt to find one of these somewhere ...
