Despite the box art, the outcome of the 1/72 is like this...

A nicer RF-4EJ is this one:

The model in the 'blue F-2 scheme' is not a RF-4EJ, it's a F-4EJ Kai of 8 Sqn 'Panthers'.

Sorry to intrude but what is the difference between the RF4EJ and the standard F4EJ ??....
read somewhere that Hase's RF4EJ is actually an F 4EJ with recon pods ... :ph43r: :ph43r: ... where as the RF4E is clearly a new fuselage with cameras and all ... betul ka???
please correct me thanks in advance.

SAC33,
I would say you are correct. That's my understanding as well.
SAC33 - July 8, 2009 03:29 AM (GMT)
Therefore effectively any F4EJ with the recon pod will be term an RF4EJ ke?...
If so then perhaps dg0816's color scheme might be correct ... just an assumption.
f-4dablemodels - July 8, 2009 04:38 AM (GMT)
I would say that any F-4EJ could be modified to carry the external recon pods, but clearly only a small number have been modified.
Besides, under JASDF practice, all recon assets of a particular type seem to be centralised in a single specialised squadron (the one with the Woody Woodpecker logo).
As I understand it, some F-4EJ's were modified as RF-4EJ's to supplement the survivors of the original RF-4E's received.
The 'blue F-2 scheme' is to my knowledge specific to F-4EJ Kai's of 8 Sqn. 'Black Panthers', which is tasked with the strike/attack mission and not the photo-recon mission.
So, I don't believe you will find a RF-4EJ Kai or RF-4E in the blue F-2 scheme, unless there is some directive to adopt the scheme in the future.

dg0816,
That was not the painting instruction that I'm looking for.I need the painting instruction for the boxart's bird. The painting instruction is inside the resin's pod packaging. That was what im looking for. :}

The diagram was what I found on the net.
Here's another one about the paint color:

Tumpang question... ^_^
I wanted to build the RAF Phantom FG1 (the top one in the pic below).
* photo from HannantsUnfortunately, I don't have an FG Phantom in my stash. I do have a few F-4J/EJ though. Based on my quick read at Wiki, I found out that the 4J and 4K.
| QUOTE (wikipedia) |
The United Kingdom bought versions based on the USN F-4J for use with the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm. The main differences were the use of the British Rolls-Royce Spey engines and of British-made avionics. The RN and RAF versions were given the designation F-4K and F-4M respectively, and entered service as the Phantom FG.1 (fighter/ground attack) and Phantom FGR.2 (fighter/ground attack/reconnaissance).

Question: Can I use the F-4J to build the FG1 OOB or do I need to do some modification?

xamel,
Trying to convert a F-4J into a Phantom FG.1 is not a simple task.
You have to rebuild the whole engine bay area. The British Phantoms use Rolls Royce Spey engines, which have a larger diameter than the GE J79, and required a redesigned rear end to accomodate them.
The are intakes are also larger although you may not be able to tell at first glance.
Buying a Hasegawa FG.1 or FGR.2 is a lot less painless.

If I may add, Harman if you want to build a UK Phantom but without all those mods for Spey variant, you can use your F4J kit to build a F4J (UK). Some were transferred from the US Navy to the RAF during Falklands. See
HEREThis way you can use a J79 engined kit, but still have it in UK ADC grey....and use 74 (Tiger) squadron colours :D
Of course, if you want a FG1/FGR2 then what Jason suggests is the best way

Harman,
I'll second landy's suggestion. ^_^
The best performing British Phantom is actually the F-4J(UK). All you need are some RAF markings. ^_^
Try begging it off anyone here who bought the Italeri F-4J, which gave decals for a F-4J(UK) of RAF 74 Sqn.
