Title: Primer Question
Description: Primer for Resins

farizforce - June 24, 2009 07:31 AM (GMT)
1) Do resin kits need to be primed? If so, does normal primer (mr. Surfacer, tamiya primer etc.) will do?

2) Are there any primer which we can get from the local hardware shops and useful for scalemodelling?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Farizforce,

Let me try and answer as best as I can with my limited knowledge.

1) It is best to prime the resin kits but before doing that, it needs a soap bath to remove all releasing agent that is usually present on resin kits. There are Resin Primer sold but I think a normal primer is sufficient enough.

2) The same answer with Azlandiver... Anchor paints do produce primers but I'm having a hard time getting my hands on it so I usually use Gunze Primers.

Hope this helps.

Recommended to prime your kit. Besides providing better paint adhesion, the littlest of flaws which may otherwise pass undetected will show up after priming.

I've used Mr.Surfacer on 1/35 resin figures before and didn't have any problems.
