Actually work started over 2 years ago.

I first heard about it from the horses' mouth then, and am just seeing it come to fruition now.

It is pretty ambitious, but it's a great subject.

Thanks for the linkie, Poohie...

CAD drawing show it as the E 2C version and not that 6 bladed E 2000 :( ... well one can always dream ...

SAC33 - June 23, 2009 04:33 AM (GMT)
Nearly forgot it can T-R-A-N-S-F-O-R-M too

(read wing fold lah)

PoohBear - June 23, 2009 04:40 AM (GMT)
Perhaps they'll do the E2000 too.

What's the visible difference other than the props blades?

f-4dablemodels - June 23, 2009 05:00 AM (GMT)
The Hawkeye NP2000 has new 8 bladed propellers (not 6).

There is also a very prominent sensor fairing on the belly, which is not on every aircraft but will be standard on the new E-2D version.

I think all surviving USN E-2C's still in service had the new props fitted, but not all had the full upgrade package installed.

Poohie ... well not sure bout what's the other visual difference but I did make a mistake there ... it should have been 8 bladed instead of 6 ... sorry...

Maybe Jason aka F4dable would be more knowledgable on this subject ...

kuman - June 23, 2009 05:11 AM (GMT)
yup.. the wingfold would be a very great addition to it.. for easy storage

and i imagine the price would be staggering as well...
based on the discussion on ARC :D

i almost bought the 1/72 scale the other day... glad i hold off.. now need to amass some fund for it :D

Wolla Gang!!! KINETICS does it again!!!

mej®

PS: Why other manufacturer never wanted to come out this "beauty" in 1/48? Just my 2 sen

PoohBear - June 23, 2009 07:46 AM (GMT)
The ARC thread mentions an OOP Collect Aire resin kit. So someone had done it before. ^_^

SAC33 - June 23, 2009 07:48 AM (GMT)
Poohie >> its resin ... will have cost a JDAM bomb just to buy the plane and then all those "##XX%%" just to assemble it...

It may be an interesting subject, but it sure is questionable whether a mainstream model kit co. can actually sell enough to cover the tooling cost, etc.

If we are realistic, then the answer is probably 'No'.

20 years ago, I would have put money on Revell-Monogram doing one.

Today, I think only someone based in China would do it.

No matter who does it, quite sure it will cost a lot of money. They will have to factor in the possibility of selling fewer units and a smaller production run.

Special Hobby did announce a 1/48 limited run, multi-media kit ~3 years ago, but nothing heard about it till now.

as a follow on from F4dable's comments, if you check out those 48th Canberras lying at HHQ ...

The Canberras were on many modellers "most wanted" list .. however since Airfix has kindly release 4 versions, none of their versions sold well ... just goes to proof Jason's point .... <_< :(

moJimbo - June 23, 2009 01:34 PM (GMT)
if it comes with the wings-folded, i'm interested

PoohBear - June 24, 2009 01:10 AM (GMT)
Wingspan in 1/72 is very close to one foot.

1/48 is going to eat up a fair bit of shelve space with wings extended.

Don't suppose anyone will attempt to manufacture one in 1/32 ^_^
