Had the good fortune to be there to see it just 2 days ago. An awesome sight and a good marketing strategy too. Made me go and buy a RX-78-2 MG kit straight after!

I bought Version 2.0 but I realise later that the model is not representative of the 1:1 scale one. A closer one is the One Year War 0079 version but even then, the thighs are different as their design seem to resemble more of those from Gundam Exia. Perhaps a new model of RX-78-2 is coming?

Wondering also whether they will add the shield and rifle as the hand positions seem to indicate that they would be added.

Edit : Looks like there is a new kit - 30th Anniversary RX-78-2. This is a 1/144 so lets hope there's a 1/100 or a 1/60 coming too!

Seing this thread made me wanna check on further details of this gundam 1:1 figure. This statues is located in ODAIBA area just incase other forumer wanted to go and see the figure themselves.

Just for everybody's info, this gundam is not finished yet. The structure has already finished but the mechanical works is still in progress. What will be added to this huge gundam:
1) Lightings from body
2) Head will be turning left and right
3) Smokes will be coming out off the figure itself (have no idea from which part of the body)

To celebrate its build, smokes will be coming out of the main body somewhere which I dont know and will start to operate somewhere in July to celebrate its birthday?

Here is a link of how this figure was made click me

The blueprint and planning process click me

FYI, in Odaiba also there is a replica of the statue of liberty but in a smaller scale. I think this was a bad idea as the statue of liberty did not give any trademark of japan at all but this huge gundam will definately give a hint of what to expect of Japan. I think more gundam related monuments will be built in the near future.

The first time I sawpics of this model , it left me speechless. The next pic I saw with it in the evening sky brought tears to my eyes. This is monumental landmark for Japan. Hope to see it if I ever make my way to the land of the rising sun.

hehe glad u guys liked it. News also said that this is not a permanent monument and it will be transported to many events whenever they needed since this monument can dissasemble or reassemble back. Hmmm just like a real model gundam :P . What puzzles me is how do they plan to bring this giant mecha here and there? must need a really big trailer

It is to my surprise that this is not the 1st correct life sized RX-78-2 made in japan...
here's one that i just stumbled upon while looking for gundam reference...

http://robot.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/news/.../07/17/563.html

and

http://www.fujiq.jp/gundam/attraction/index.html

Looking at it clearly, it does not seems to be the same unit... I sure hope I'm lucky enough to get upclose with this model... as i have been wondering ever since i latch myself to gundam... "WHAT DA HELL THEY WROTE ON ALL THESE WARNING SIGN"

In the anime, Gundam chest has vents which blew out somthing like exhaust or compressed air occasionally.

I think that is where the smoke is coming out.

Hopefully 2 Zakus won't appear and try to hijack this Gundam. :D
