Title: Cutting Pe Mesh, Etc.
f-4dablemodels - June 11, 2009 01:43 AM (GMT)
Has anyone tried cutting PE mesh to specific shape and size?
What do you use to cut the PE mesh?
My concern is that the cut edges will swell up (become distorted) by the sharp blade or PE scissors, and you won't get a clean cut.
Anyone used the Tamiya or Hasegawa Tri-tool PE scissors? Is it meant for this type of cutting?
Thanks

Jason, my method of cutting PE is by using ordinary Scissor. For thin PE like WEM and GMM PE, I use small scissor that is use to trim mustache (misai) and thicker PE also I use ordinary kitchen scissor. It work for me. If it swell up, just flip it and burnish it lightly with the butt of your aluminium cutting knife... just my 2 sen :D
Can see on my Varyag WEM PE. All trimm with small scissor...

I use the same method as Mejar...big and small scissors, then burnish. Works for me so far....

I think so, I actually had an experimental thought of it before, to mask and airbrushed that shape, then cut with scissors, leaving some gap (0.5-1cm on the painted borders), and dip in FeCl2 solution which is easily available from Jln. Pasar..
Painted area will be protected from the etchant, then lastly remove the paint with thinner, you'll get an etch-cut edge
But too much a hassle.. don't think so  ??

That's right, Sil.
But I think what the Major & landy suggested is still applicable.
More clearly, what I want to do is to cut specific shapes to replace kit moulded details, but am a bit worried about precision.
Thanks for the advice, all!

Yup, I know, CUT THE PE WIRE MESH WITH ORDINARY SCISSOR... No matter how careful u do with PE, somehow rather the PE either you like it or not, will bend slightly... I NEVER CUT PE WITH KNIFE...
