Title: Color Shifting Paint
Description: Anyone has idea what paint is that?

rayloke - June 10, 2009 05:30 AM (GMT)
This color shifting effect, according to angle of view n reflection, really amaze me. I used to see this kinda effect applied on a real car, but for model, i thought the reflective flake might be too big for models. Until i see this:

The changing of color is different from normal pearl against different color tone base. The change of color isn't gradual, but sharp.

There's someone in the forum suggested these 2 products, one is for automobile, while another one is for furniture:

Anybody who has knowledge and experience about these paint?

Thanks in advance. ^_^

I think he is using the Gunze Maziora paint but I can't confirm it.

I doubt he uses the automotive colour shifting paint unless he owns a custom paint stock with lots and lots of colour shifting paint stock because the automotive paints are really expensive. I have asked a local distributor a few years back on the paint and his response was... A paint the size of the smallest paint can size is about RM300++!!! and I just back up from the booth...

There's another alternative to that... nail polish/paint. Some of the brands do come in clour shifting paints and it costs as cheap as RM2.00 per bottle (enough to paint a car) but then maybe someone can advise on the chemicals/thinner used on this paint because it does not go well with industrial thinner (the paint is enamel if I'm not mistaken). The flakes on this nail polish is so fine and I think it is as fine as the pearl paints.

My five cents... :D

Thanks bro, ^_^ , i have a bottle of maziora and since i havent tried it on any kit yet; from the bottle, the changing of color seems more gradual than in the photo, hence i was trying to explore more alternative.

I was discussing with Klay and we found that for car paint the reflective pigment might be too big, cost too high, and not easily available in Malaysia. However, we were not sure. Since an expect like u also say the same thing, i guess i would give maziora paint a try; perhaps looking from a bottle is totally different from after spraying it on a kit ^_^

Thanks again.

(Yeah about the nail polish, after i spent big bucks getting it from hk, i only realised my wife's using nail polish that looks similar which cost her RM10 from a warehouse sale <_< )

rayloke, go buy some disposable spoon and do a test like i did on my impreza, remember to do both gloss and non-gloss to see the difference, i believe gloss will have a more dramatic effect :P

Err.. even the Maziora was priced around RM60++ for something like 25ml..
I've got a friend who is doing some chemical trading, one of his German supplier did bring in this type of paint, and I'm still waiting samples from him to try out though <_<

at least 3 bottle for that sinanju :ph43r:

RM180 already

rayloke - June 10, 2009 07:06 AM (GMT)
The link matang share, i checked the price, for 1oz of powder, they charge usd114.95!

Is definitely too expensive for my hobby budget! and in case u bought, make sure u dont sneeze!

klay - June 10, 2009 07:14 AM (GMT)
For the 30 pacs of metal thruster used for that sinanju (easily above RM500 even priced below Japanese retail price), RM180 is really small figure for the paint part that contributed most of the "wow" factor.. but the author mentioned earlier it was not maziora that is being used

I don't think I'm willing to spend that much on a model kit. Even if it was for my own (unless I am super rich and got nothing else to do with the money). I will spend that amount of money (or more) to get the equipment to turn the metal though (costs at about RM5K). :D
