Title: Humvees
Description: Which are the good ones?

achee74 - June 8, 2009 09:42 AM (GMT)
Hi guys,

Kena racun semalam because of generation kill!

Anyway, am looking at a couple of humvees in the market. I think that Acedemy and Tamiya have the Armament carrier and the tow carrier. The prices wise, tamiya is way much higher.. The question I would like to post is whether which is much better to build? I hvae a friend who told me that the Acedemy is much better that tamiya.

To another question, anyone have the Italeris Humvees? How are they? And one final question: From the Generation Kills open top humvees, and of those currently in the market?

Thanks :D

Hi Alex,

Much as I like the Humvee the only one that I own is the one from Academy. Its the IED truck version. It was used as an armored carrier for troops so it has an open cab at the back. Haven't tested the fit but it has no figgies but lots of personal weapons including a Barret.

Read somewhere about the Italeri Command version about it not having the right number of bolts on the wheels but it doesn't really matter unless one is a rivet counter. Other than that can't help you much there.

Perhaps the guys will come along with more info. On that note I'll move your thread over to the Armor section where it might get more feedback.

The Italeri version is a prototype vehicle which differs from the production model. You can read this for a complete list.

A comparison of the Tamiya, Academy and Italeri kits can be found on PMMS. But to me, they all look like Humvees.

Well, i don't like this Tamiya brand personally.(Mostly bcoz of prices and old products lar)
But for humvee, Tamiya's humvee much more better than others.

Coz when i build Academy's one, i made compare to Tamiya's one.... :D

I was on a HMMWV kick at one time, and bought each of the Academy & Tamiya kits.

The Acad kits were from early 90's, and at the time was the best. It still is overall OK, except that it represents Desert Shield / Desert Storm era vehicles. Of course the most recent gun truck release brings it up to present standard.

The Tamiya kits are much better in moulding and detail for sure, especially the wheels and weapons.

The Tamiya kits enable you to build both Desert Shield / Storm era and OIF era (the invasion) vehicles, and stops there.

The downside of the Tamiya kits is that only 2 versions were issued - both armament carrier versions (M1025 & M1046).

Acad did the armament carriers (M1025/1046?), maxi ambulance (M997), cargo truck (M998) and of course the armoured gun truck.

AFV Club also issued the Academy kit with lots of resin parts and Taiwanese markings.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the Info.

Beach, I got 2 of the IEDs. Actually I am looking for a comand humvee now.

Ah How,
I read that the Tamiya's newer humvees were very good, but again the price is the killer!

Alpha and Druid,

Thanks for the info...

Anyone had done a open top type with a MG or MK19 on top?

Alex,

That would be the AFV Club kit.

It is an open top vehicle. Resin parts for the anti-roll frame, weapons station, Mk.19 and wheels are provided.

The resin wheels are so much nicer than the Acad plastic & vinyl ones.

That's the one, alright.

Check out with MH.

I still saw it at the Sec. 14 shop several times, a short while before they shifted.

Tamiya is still the best regardless of their mold is a bit old. ^_^ But If you are looking for different varient and a bit cheaper price, try Academy's :D

Yeah, I remember the first Tamiya HMMWV - almost 20 years back.

The more recent M1025 & M1046 are new tooling and much better than the first one, which apparently wasn't an operational type.

Somehow, many of the early Humvee models were of proposed or developmental models, which never saw service.

Just like Imran I've got the ESCI one with the Screaming Eagles minus the figures.

Heard that it's inaccurate from the front onwards but it looks like a Humvee to me.

The kit was a gift and since I was not partial to modern vehicals I left it for a while. With this thread and the fact that it's been in battle, I've started to put it together. Will post some pix of it.

I like the scheme on the 'Generation Kill' series. Replicating it would be a killer. Wondered if they have decals or dry transfers for the color scheme.

Richard.

Hi guys,

I manage to to see my friend's collections of "in the box" humvees. I have yet to see the new Tamiya tooling, but it seems that is very well recommended.

The Italeri comando unit is really old and not nice to build at all and I was very disappointed with the AFV kit. Apprently, it is using the Acedemy kit, with the resin from them and to box it as the Taiwan army kit. The Acedemy kit seems to be the most afforable at the moment.

Any good Humvees site to have reference on the different versions and variants?

Thanks All :D
