Title: Something For Sci Fi Gb
landyshah - May 21, 2009 07:38 AM (GMT)
Since I'm happy to support all GB, here is my support for this one...even if it hasnt started ;) ....but i think this one should qualify :D
The old AMT kit, dug out from storage box. Bought the kit in 1985, hand painted, then stripped and rebuilt and spray painted around 1990....this kit has some well documented inaccuracy, and nowhere as good as the new Finemoulds...but looks the part la. Hope you all like it

Rajin rajin build one kit lar, it's time for you to show off... dun hide ur "kung fu"
shah,
what kit is that?
landyshah - May 21, 2009 03:38 PM (GMT)
Vince, its the AMT/ERTL kit in 1/72.
They were the original franchise holder for Star wars kits back in the 80's. For many years until Finemould came out, is the most common injection kit of the "falcon...altho with many problem and inaccuracies.
I'm tempted to get a Finemould Falcon and give it another shot, hopefully can do better job than this one :P
Sil: jangan macam tu la haha, i just try to organise my life HAAHHA

Guys
that version (AMT Ertl/MPC/Airfix) of the Falcon is the only 1/72 scale version that is the most accurate for Episode 4: A New Hope movie. It does have some innacuracies but those can be rectified. It is the only detailed version that has a smooth bottom section and 3 landing gears.
The Falcon prop was modified for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with additional cargo or engine spaces underneath the ship that needed a 5 landing gear configuration (which is what Finemolds has produced minus the correct figures) - so the 2 Death Stars were destroyed with the help of 2 versions of the Falcon
Just some trivia
Ken :D

Thanks Kenny,
I heard something about the undercarriage being different, but not an expert on the subject.
This AMT one has 3, you are right. Centre undernose and two L/R rear....but the rear ones are split into 2 sections each...in the end there are a total of 5 landing pads.
But looking at shots from Empire (esp landing on Bespin), can see the undercarriage has more legs in different places...is that what you mean by the 5 legs?

Shah
that's correct. There were 2 additional landing gear added at the front sections of the fuselage before the main exit hatchway. Where there used to be 2 large open panels at the bottom of the ship there are now 2 large extended/protruding sections that look like its for extra cargo space or engine modifications, and these 2 parts are where the new landing gears are stored as well.
Other modifications added on for Return of the Jedi were also the proton torpedo launcher between the front mandibles which we only get to see in the AMT Ertl Interior Detail Cutaway Model version of the Falcon. This is what destroyed the Death Star 2.
cheers
