Title: Mg34 Gunner
Description: 120mm Jeffshiu's Miniatures

Guys

I'd recommend this German MG Gunner from Jeff Shiu. It's sculpted after an actual photograph of a model posing in authentic collectors' gear. It can be found on page 17 of the book, Waffen-SS in Color Photographs by Andrew Steven and Peter Amodio. I used that as my painting guide. Details are crisp and well casted with hardly much clean up and trimming to do for those who can hardly wait to go straight to the painting. The manufacturer advise that the MG sling and two straps for the entrenching tool kit be scratchbuilt though. Worth the effort as these add realism and essential for the MG to be slung over the shoulder.

Great figures as usual from our great figure painter.

I like the machine Gunner's pose... at least it look more natural with the machine gun slung on his shoulder .... much realistic and natural than Tamiya's one (Wehrmacht Infantryman On Maneuver)

... which the the MG strap provided from the kit is thick and the way it position on the edge of the shoulder....

As usual I'm amazed by the fact that you're always keep a high standard of your figures painting... Great stuff.

As always another well done piece. The Autumn pea pattern bounces off nicely against the grey greatcoat. Nice subtle woodgrain finish on the MG34. At 120mm I would have gone for a bit more weathering of the webbing and belt edges simulating worn and cracked leather but that's just a very minor and personal preference.

Of course no Patrick figgie would be complete without the signature cigarette.

Hi Patrick

I always like this figure as the body language is quite unique. Well done with the painting and notice you weathered a bit more nowadays. good work

Where do you get this figure and how much? I was thinking of getting it in Hong Kong but don't know where to find it....

Thanks
Allan

Hi guys. And thanks.

CP
Tamiya does produce some good 1/16s. Their Luftwaffe Pilot ( Galland or Molders ), Rommel, and MG42 Gunner in greatcoat comes to mind and I have built those. It's their painter which made the kit you mentioned look unattractive....ahem  ;)........It's completely devoid of weathering. Not even a wee bit and it looks like a toy. Yes I agree, there's 'something wrong' with the MG's sling.

Speaking of which, here are two of three mentioned above which I did around 5 years ago. Pics weren't so good. They were shot with the second camera I owned.

Notice the three legged 'table'? It came with the delivered pizza.......

Aaah you noticed the woodgrain. I'm glad the little extra I put it hasn't escaped your critical scrutiny. As for weathering the leather, I'm guilty as charged. It did cross my mind to add some greyish chips here and there but dang! I forgot ! Oh you noticed my 'signature'. My work area stinks of secondhand smoke! That's something else to add to your mental image other than the shorts thing. Bon appetite  :P

A client bought it on eBay from Jeff Shiu's listings and instructed to have it sent direct to me. I don't know how much. You should be able to make enquiries and get it from the link I provided.
