Wah this kit looks very classic vince bro, the wheathering looks as if this tank hasn't been used in quite some time with the rust and everything. I would love to build one of these but I fail at wheathering
Just curious what are those small square shape things surrounding the tank's sides and front? is it suppose to be sandbag or.......? they seem interesting to me.
nice......

Sky,
thanks for the attention, Russians normally don't maintain their war machines like the Americans, that's why we can "play" a lot of weathering when building Russian stuff :)
I'm not a weathering master, still learning hard!! . But practice makes perfect.
The square stuff is actually called reactive armour, the function is to explode when a shell hits. The damage of a shell exploding outside the tank's armour is far more lesser.

Hmm, may I add... ERA or Explosive Reactive Armour main function is to disrupt the incoming projectile especially the Armour Piercing type like arrow. When 2 metal collide at supersonic speed, AP metal turn into "liquid molten needle" and penetrate the armour. ERA prevent the penetration by exploding toward the incoming projectile thus disrupt the angle and forming the "stand-off" distance... But very dangerous if there is an infantry near by...
just my "not so many" knowledge :D

ERA is actually designed to defeat the HEAT rounds ("the liquid molten needle"). It is less effective against the arrow-type AP rounds aka HVAPFSDS aka long rod penetrator aka sabot rounds.

Nice job Vince.
I built the Dragon T72 and T80 long ago, to be frank i think cos one of their early kit, is pretty poor compared to current one....fit was terrible and lot of inaccuracy...but look nice when done cos Soviet tank shape is sexy

shah,
agree with u, bad fitting, some more this one is hand painted(that time have no AB). only the exhaust stain is airbrushed yesterday.

IIRC the DML uses only the released US DoD pics of the Cold War era Soviet equipments, hence the accuracy issues. It is now 19 years since perestroika/glasnost and the time is ripe (actually overdue methinks) for a new, accurate Cold War stuff!

Agree, not much russian stuff these days. The latest Russian tank I have is this T-72
