My contribution for the Motherland. Academy's 1/48 MiG-21PF. I have this build hidden in stash for quite sometime now. The GB have given me enough motivation to complete this build. Nothing fancy... just OOB build.

Fuselage


Cockpit tub. I think the color is wrong <_< .


There's a 0.4mm gap between the spine and the tail. I'm out of 0.4mm plastic so I use Bondite to fill the gap.


Wheel well filled with Bondite for strength.


Speed-brake gap was filled with 0.5mm plastic.

Seat.


Testing the seat with Russian pilot from Tamiya's MiG-15.


Fit in the cockpit very well with no adjustment. But I need to source for one since this pilot will be in my MiG-15 bis. Anybody got one to let go?


Wings - in my haste, I forgot to drill the holes for the missile rack. I just use my 'guestimation' to install them.


Fill in the holes with Bondite as well.


'Spider-web' in the burner can.

Also will be joining the MiG-21 for the celebration will be the MiG-15 bis. Progress thread here.

the last pic nampak real mcm dah siap..really heavily weathered mig... ko tak payah paint pon dah cantik bro............. buat macam ruin...or a crash mig at the bottom of the sea...

can make a force perspective dio and park the mig in front of your bismark....

I've set my deadline for these 2 by the end of month. After that, focus on my Bismarck and followed by MGB '09 stuff. IAF Viper(s) pulak due after Raya :lol: .

Prior to painting, I did a bit of experiment. I wipe the model with alcohol swab to get rid of oil and dirt.

Primed, preshade and painted the underside.




Some trick that was picked up from one of many SFTPMS modelling workshop.


The underside is light grey, so I give a few of slightly darker grey streaks.

The MiG-15 is going to be bare metal.

Lan, took me almost 2 hours for preshading alone. Picked up from Kenny 'Argrillion' Loh in one of SFTPMS workshop (AFV Workshop) last year. The expected result, some random patch of uneven colors.

Lagi realistic.

Painted the MiG last night with 4 tone camo works :wacko: . Luckily, I've painted the Sand color earlier. Light brown was applied first and followed by the greens. All paints are added with a couple drops of 'Encik Pembantutan Secukup Rasa' (Mr. Retarder Mild, la!) and sprayed at low pressure; free-hand.

After all the camo's applied, I gave the bird a quick spray with mist of Gunze Thinner... just to get it to blend properly. Need to do some touch up as some area have a bit 'dusty' effect. Paint too thick.

wah brother xamel, this kit looks simple but the effect of your camo made this bird look complicated. The colour scheme me likeyyyyy :lol: cant wait to see the finish build

Planning to do decal work on weekend. Sunday, maybe. So tonight, touch up and clear coat. Still need to work on the pilot 'cos I'm modifying my Hind pilot to fit in the cockpit. Tamiya's pilot a little too small to be a Russian.

If all goes well, weathering comes next.

Yes, Jason. Thinking of giving it a semi-gloss or flat. Will decide once decals applied tonite.

On related note, I noticed the decals are thick. Typical Academy decal. <_<

Decals applied last night. Not much decals on this bird. Six stars and a pair of numerals and nose mark.

Academy's decal prints are messed up! You can see the misprint of the white. Very noticable on the stars, which I think is a tad oversized.

Not bad at all... Si Academy punya decal memang degil lah..I also got the same problem on my SUE...

Decal tu degil :angry: ! Derhaka :angry: ! Banyak objection :angry: ! Applied decal softener doesn't seem to have any effect.

Yup, Thomas. Even after I 'drown' the decal in decal softener, it still won't 'sink' into the panel lines. I lightly score the decal with my Olfa knife and force it to conform to the panel lines.

Out of register and impervious to solving solutions - that's Academy's infamous early decal at work. The kicker comes when they start to peel off sometime in the future ^_^

Try lightly spraying industrial thinner over it and see if it helps. On a test piece first of course.

Academy decals suck!! .........I almost ruined my Shooting star with their useless decals............for stenciling and etc.......never had good experience with them............

But like I said your build still looks good

I hereby pledge to myself never again to build Academy's MiG-21 using their decals. Scout's honor! :lol:
