Title: 'ugly Fairey'
Description: Fairey Gannet ASW

xamel1975 - April 28, 2009 12:44 AM (GMT)
Kit: Fairey Gannet ASW
Scale: 1/48
Manufacturer: Classic Airframes
Media: Mixed - Injection mold and resin
Special Note:
Classic Airframes uses low pressure injection mold which results flashing on most parts. The upside of this technique is the details are sharp and almost no sink mold. No pin guide for assembly, so you'll need a good eye, steady hand, lots of test fitting and patience of a chopping block to get the parts aligned.

This is what happened when I try to cut the pour stub of the wheel well using circular saw on Dremel rotary tool. It's almost completely healed. No accident shot. Too gruesome!

Photo from Warbird Alley.

Indeed Gannet has the most unique wingfold but I'll pass with this one. Classic Airframes' Gannet wing is quite thick. Between 1.5 - 2mm thick. Jenuh nak potong!

Maybe after this build, I'll get a 2nd copy to make wing fold version (Version freak! )

It's interesting to know that there are at least 2 private owner of this bird.

Bro,

Nice subject, which marking you wanna do? I think the 849 Squadron from HMS Victorious was involve in Confrontation..

mr. b,

Thanks! I'd like to see your Classic Airframes' build. Hope I can pick up some knowledge from you!

Thomas,

Haven't decided which marking to do. The Gannet has same color scheme so I can decide on the markings later.

Kit came with 4 markings.

But since you've mentioned 849 Sq. involvement in the Confrontation, I just might do that version! Another one for MGB '09!

Yup, it'll be interesting to see the Angkatan Laut version on this one. Just one problem though... based on my research, the marking is supposed to be AS 15, not A515.
