This is the famous Bakri massacre where 4 Ha-gos were obliterated by an Aussie 2 pdr.

M2595 Light Tank HA-GO

The tanks were produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries who are believed to have built over one thousand of this model.

The markings indicate a tank of 14th Sensha Rentai (Tank Regiment) in 3rd Sensha Shidan (Tank Division) around 1941. This Type 95 was captured in Malaya and was examined in Calcutta before being sent to Britain. Surviving Japanese tanks from the Second World War are extremely rare.

The wet jungle terrain did not turn out to be an obstacle when 12 Type 95s took part in the attack which broke the Jitra line on 11 December 1941.

Tactics, use of surroundings and equipments, troops' discipline all play a big big role.

The Japanese had tanks and the British only had armoured cars but they did have sufficient Anti Tank Guns in the 2pdr to do damage. It all boiled down to troop motivation, morale and tactics which the British were found wanting.
Having read a few concise and good accounts of the war from both sides, the Fall of Malaya deserved a good lengthy movie.

Well, although this is a tankette (Wikipedia) and looks easy to "kill".... These Jap tank roam the China battle fields with terror, consider Chinese army basically donot have efficient tanks unit then... The Chinese army had to use "human bomb" (suicide bomber) to stop these so call "easy-to-kill" tank.

Tanks even the simple ones will be hard to knock out if you only have small arms to fight with. Grenades will just bounce of as shrapnel can only tear flesh not unless you can pop it into an opened hatch.

So don't think it's an easy kill until you have anti tank arms at your disposal and you stand your ground to take aim in a well planned ambush or you're cooked.

well i say it looks easy to kill as in the armor seem to be able to be rip apart by the M60 mounted on a shamen, and it till the shaman is more well armored.

Many thanks to Blackheart & Msyamal for the excellent pics and reference.

Gentlemen the discussion on tank killing is interesting but as this is the Resource section dedicated mainly as a reference for pics and links to info we may need to keep discussions to a minimal so as to make it easy for forumers to search through the thread for info.

Tank busting is always a fascinating subject so perhaps we could carry it on over at the Armor section. Much appreciated.

Posted sometime in June 2008 on youtube, is a 9 minute 1944 film clip of a captured Type 95 undergoing some maneuverability evaluation in American hands.
Pretty cool if you haven't caught this bit of vintage B&W gem.
"Performance Test of Japanese Light Tank Type 95"...

and also if you're into Japanese Anime, a film clip of an artistic rendition depicting heroic actions carried out by fearless Japanese type 97 Tank crews and infantrymen blazing down Malaya...

if it interest you, for good measure an old Japanese film clip showing what is probably a tank training school with Type 97s on the go....
