Gangs of SMM, here's my first ever ship build in history... Half-day built affair :D

Its a 1/350th Trumpeter Russian Slava Class Cruiser VARYAG...

My progress build so far...


The Main Superstructure Group with transparent part and Forward Gun/Cannon.

The "Smokehouse", Sea-Search Radar and Crane...

The "Vertical Launch Missile Control Station/Heli Hangar with transparent part on the right...

All component are dry fit on the deck

This Array type Air-Search Radar has no built explain. I used my "instinct" in building this and some part is still in search coz it not complete

Trumpeter explain the construction of this Air-Search Radar but not used...

Before the transplant on this post becoz not additional part supplied on the PE post

After the transplant with Crazy Saw and UHU CA Glue and superimposed with ABS Glue after CA glue dried completely

Ship-building of this size need lots of patient and passion... :lol:

The transparent part has WINDOWS, so you need to identified and mask it prior to painting coz it will show the"interior" depth look... Same with the HELIX ASW Heli...

Still waiting for Pemlow to post me the paint then I can AB this...

YIKES!!!, got to put this project on HOLD, Trumpy PE is so THICK!!!... and inaccurate. I cannot live with that...

Just order White Ensign Models PE from PemLow... Should arrived in 2 weeks time.

Some small update for a tiring, heart pounding, sweating, hungry, eye peeling, cursing, pain staking and XXX...

I've decided to "THROW AWAY" all Trumpy overscale PE with WHITE ENSIGN MODEL PE from HHQ (Pemlow)

Very nice, great work on the PE sir....but after u went through this u will understand why I takkan masuk arena 1/350 or 700th....nak buta ? hahahaah

Satu komen tuan: Did you cement the superstructure to the deck?
Normally, I leave off the superstructure and antenna and build them up as subassembly, if possible paint before fit to deck. Deck and hull is painted separately.....cos this slava got orange deck, grey superstrcture n details, clean line separation is important...

Careful cos if you keep assembling to paint one shot, nanti sangkut pulak...plus kit will become harder and harder to handle without accident....you need different strategy from aircraft

Shah, TQ for your reminder... Yup, it still in sub-assy and NOT cement yet... All dry-fit for photo-session and "admiring" all those "cenonit" PE that I'm able to assemble... :lol:

Quite challenging I must say but really enjoyable after seeing those "impossible"...

I agreed with u on the score of 350th and 700th scale ship. Since I've already "fall in love" with the Russian "Beast" and also your RACUN, Next will be the KIROV CLASS - Admiral USHAKOV also in 1/350 :D WEM PE are already in hand and waiting for MH to get me that kit...

Zaidi> That PE bender is a must for doing PE... Got to get the bigger version coz if you are doing ship, that "baby" is out of reach. The WEM PE is mostly many part to joint, not much of bending actually. Use PVA glue and UHU CA glue sparingly. My mata is still ok :D

i already got The Bug.....and shah guess our taste is the same. Tuan registered Major, smaller bender cukup la for me...not going to try on those longer PE....

anyway Shah, the S-boot is still on the bench....i lied to all that this is going to be an OOB build...after a few extensive research, i found out there are few errors in the revell kit...so right now i'm going to correct some of them and to further enhance the kit with a small PE fret..... will be back after the tournament ended and after SGB ended.... too tired now.......... got to to bed now :ph43r: :ph43r:

Zaidi, Revell S boot got a number of well known innacuracy esp the guns and the props. If you can, try fix them. Dulu masa I built it, I just added detail and tidy up, didnt fix those problem cos it was commission build and rushing....now you can do a better job! Sori mejar, kluar citer S boot in your thread.

Shah> Glad that you are happy... but "masuk dalam golongan orang yang beriman" is something "musykil"... :lol: Join the Shipbuilder is olrite!!! Next project will be Kirov Class and Kuznetsov... :D

Hope Zaidi can settle all the S-Boot hassle, I know he can do that after doing all the research...

Last night small update that cost me nearly 2 hours fitting those minute PE!!! After several attempt!!! Really need a "Steady Hand"...

brother lan, seing this PE set made me "takut" want to build a ship hehe. This is super small. Just a question mej, after adding the PE, do you need to add colour onto the PE or just leave it as it is? because those "look like deck thing" seems to have a weave pattern on them and if we paint on this part wont the paint cover the holes if we make 2 or 3 layers?

Pylan> Mata still OK... Actually, this can consider my DREAM COMES TRUE... At first, I doubt myself about my skill doing all those minute PE assembling and bending. But after looking Landy's SKILLFUL works on OSA and several boat, make me wonder if I also can do that MIRACLE... so... here is it...

Syamin> The PE off course will be painted first with Metal Primer, some surfacer, shade and paint must be not thick in several layer, more like misting. The AB head must be not near the PE and in low pressure otherwise the PE will "GONE WITH THE WIND". Will update on the painting process. Don't worry... :lol:

All colours are as recommended by trumpy except the top orange colour thingy.... mixed colour of GS Hull Red and Orange...

Some PE part are removed temporary just to facilitate the easy painting and masking... Pheew!!!

Sky, still need a lot of work to do actually... railing and some small fitting. The deck black grey and dark grey colour are Vallejo hand-painted... just trying that technique and its work!!! much easy to maneuver around those small small thingy.

Wah, the ship forum got action at last!!! Boring tengok jet sama tak abis abis :P :P

Still got some way to go, but looking very good tuan. Cun!!!

Suggest do some wash/drybrush to bring out details. Consider some shading on hull sides to break up the single grey colour and bit of weathering. Modern peacetime ship will be well taken care of, and 350th scale effect will be very haluss.
