Title: Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah
landyshah - April 25, 2009 04:21 PM (GMT)
Found today while I was trying to look for a box to pack some stuff.....the old M113A1 from Tamiya, I recall built around 1985 (form 4!!!..for school model society display)....this makes it the oldest build I have still surviving. Thot id post it up here for a laugh....
1. Brush painted, I guess OOTB...modelled after a pic of a Canadian M113 in NATO REFORGER exercise. But overall think I was confuse between 80's NATO and 60's 'Nam......Tracks all "londeh" and loose...and funny colour oso

2. Some attempt at scratchbuild (overscale!!) radio, headphones, coke can and Marlboro merah (smoking already at that age wattudu)...figures from the kit, reposed a bit...but all wrong anyway cos wearing Vietnam era uniform and simply taroh camo pattern! Popeye-like huge arms and face like Elephant man! The guy with the M60 is a make love not war hippie kaki (in the 80's?) and smoking (dope?) and holding a can of Holstein Pils

3. One more figure inside......looks like painted dummies....mould line like sore thumb....I wonder why ciggies and smoking is prominent in this build...trying to say something to the society teacher? :P Walky talky looks like RC remote control or those old Motorola brick phone

4. Engine bay with some belang belang wire, dunno what is that...

5. Frankenstein-Popeye man inside the cabin, of course with cigarette and giant size Marlboro tied to helmet Vietnam style..mould lines galore.

Man, those were the days. Life was so simple, and the kit cost RM 15 or something from Hobby Jaya in Sg Wang. I think im still stuck in that era :D
azlandiver - April 25, 2009 04:31 PM (GMT)
gempak siot ko buat.....skill ko masa form 4 pun dah kira baguih dok ada nih :D
tapi masa dulu-dulu tu mana la tau nak buang mould line tu kan macam last pic :P
good job brader B)
landyshah - April 25, 2009 04:44 PM (GMT)
LOL Mould line time tu aku tak paham aper benda dia pun....tak sedar pun it shud be removed hahaha....
The Frankenstein face figures with Popeye arms is totally horribleeee......geli tengok...like some people said "macam belalai gajah"
Maybe this the reason until today I just lingkup and surrender when it comes to figures..childhood trauma

Landyshah
Wah....nostalgia....I have this kit too. At form 4, you are actually very brave and imaginative to scratch build some of the accesories!
It is funny how photographs seem to highlight all the seam lines and errors. Now i take pics from a far, no more closeups!!!
You can see the ACAV version of this M113 at the SMM09..hahahahha

Landy ,this is awesome stuff.Scratch building coke cans and Marlboros(the world's No2 and No1 brands)in Form 4 and then sticking it to the "man".I can see lots of passion and love went into this kit.Its a real treasure and I hope you will keep it safe and show it to us soon in da flesh.
on the technical side, good weathering, good attention to detail,(the seams are the pants stitching line ma),clear parts stuck on well. The guys smoking dope has a good lepak expression.
on a side note, this is what Tamiya is good for, easy to build with good details and lots of figures to create a "scene".
PS:how I wish I had one of my first kits.
achee74 - April 26, 2009 01:51 AM (GMT)
Landy,
Argeed with Eng Hui, Form 4 dah ada skill macam itu... kagumlah bang.. :P :o , somemore scratch building the coke can and the rokok and the radio...
One think for sure, I remember the Tamiya armour kit ( Still got it unbuilt), the arm for that particular crew memeng Gajah punya, only can fix on the body itself..
Nevertheless.. kagum.... kagum.....
landyshah - April 26, 2009 05:38 AM (GMT)
Thank you guys, guess I was just a kid with a fertile imagination and trying to do something with it :D
Nostalgia....after this M113 story, I remembered I had these in my photo album, taken in the days of film camera by me and my dad, around the same time (1983-86) ...took pics of the prints with digicam for you guys to have another laugh:
1. Me at age 16 or something, at workbench in my room...I remember that diorama...was Tamiya Leopard 1 and M151 Ford Mutt...trying to copy something I had seen by Shep Paine in Tamiya catalogue. The base was made from...CEMENT (parents house doing renovation that time)....I see a tube of the great UHU...Man, I had awful hairstyle

2. Workbench cum study table....I remember trying to rebuild and paint that Hase 1/32 Starfighter. Must hv been before the first photo as the Leopard is still not painted....and theres a Panzer II there too, and what seems to be a CH-46 Sea Knight (Tamiya 1/100 scale I recall)

3. Cabinet full of stuff which I had built since a kid...can see the "non painted artline method" and "brush painted" era....some nice old kits there which I wish I could buy again now...Monogram 1/48 P-61 (didnt somebody just build one?), Tamiya Sea harrier, Hase 1/32 Starfighter, 1/48 Hughes 500, Monogram F100, Revell F4F, Esci 1/48 F 104C and a Millenium Falcon!! (I remember that clearly, bought in the US soon after Return of the Jedi came out)....and various F5, F14, F18, Thud, Tamiya A10 etc in shelf below

Various Hase, Airfix, Fujimi, Matchbox...and Zaku, Crab Gunner, a VF-1? and some other robots....

If you guys have any old photos, please do share :D
Bud Bilko - April 26, 2009 07:19 AM (GMT)
Keh keh keh Landy,
Old memories strike hard!!! I don't ever recalled of having any photos taken by my dad or mom when i started building at age of 9!! My dad was a poor Govt servant ^_^ !! Honest
The work bench was similar to what i had last time. Used to build Matchbox Bell Huey Cobra as my 1st ever kit!!! Had a neighbor who introduced this hobby to me. He is now a deputy GM at Eagle Aircraft in Melaka.
Landy, i too build the same M113 kit. Had a mini diorama that was always knocked out by my late cat every morning when he sneaked in into my room!!! Chasing that pussy around the house has became a chore!!!
I also used to hang all my planes from the ceiling and believes me, imagination really kicks in!!
Let me search for photos if can find any! BTW Landy, was that a CASIO F9 watch?
Sgt Buds, Six Zero out!

Really nostalgic... but pitiful that I don't have cameras that time and no old pics...
Good to have parents and relative to support your hobby craze...
Tried to "Tumpahkan kuah ke nasi" but my sons only craze on Gundam 101% OOB... meaning no painting, no scratch-building, bla...bla...bla... He only need 1 x Cutter and 1 x needle file... That all!!!

Haha I think we all got excited about this kind of thing :P
Long time ago...sometimes I feel I have made some progress, sometimes I think not...I guess we all keep trying to be better, never ending process of learning
Anyway, anyone who got old pics please post!
beachbum - April 27, 2009 07:17 AM (GMT)
I must say Landy the coke can and malboros are quite well done and considering the tender age in which you did them makes them even better. At least your figgies got painted. Most of mine went au naturel or had a coat of ICI paint.
An impressive collection of planes as well. Pity not too many survivors.

Waa... really old2 pictures...
1995... hmm... I'm not really active in model building that time... interest is there but cash is not.... hahaha...
The model competiton during that time was big... I can recall watching TV3 do a coverage on the model competition for their evening news and seeing a big crowd with a big number of entries...
Just hope one day we can bring back the modelling scene like it was back then... :)
I just recall that I have sent a model car (it's an AMT Mercury) for a competition last time through my brother (wakil) because I was away in Terengganu for my studies not sure the year though but I did not win anything.. hehehehe...
