Title: Another Kiddy Stuff
Description: 1/48 Hetzer
Silantra - April 14, 2009 02:28 AM (GMT)
It's been a while since i touch any models....
Nothing fancy hanky panky here..just a simple kiddy stuff. Shame on me.... huhuhuh
so this is just 3 days old... took 5 hours to come to this stage
this is tamiya 1/48 hetzer.... a cute lil devil that i've been longing to build..thanks to an old friend who brought me early birthday gift.......
overall the fitting of the kit is superb and top notch. I got no problem building it...
the length and link tracks system are easy to assemble but a bit tricky if this is ur first dealing with this kind of tracks..
i will plan to build this oob and will try handpainting this cute devil....
here are some of the progress photos....

Wow! Besarnya. Heck it almost bigger than your cigarette box. :D
Seriously though good way to get back to the game, my friend. By all accounts looks like it will be a quickie. Not much patching and the details aren't too bad.
Errr....btw when you said you haven't touch any models, I'm assuming here we are talking about the plastic kind, right? :P

beachbum - April 14, 2009 02:42 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah...forgot to mention. That's a well done model of a Dunhill cigarette box. Did the kit come with decals or did you have to use a template? Notice you kept washes and highlights to a minimum too on the cigarette box. Good painting there. :P :D

Welcome to the world of handpaint!
Errr... how will you paint the tracks since it was fully assembled?
landyshah - April 14, 2009 02:44 AM (GMT)
Ah baguzzzzz......mood sudah datang....maybe it was my propoganda or inspirasi kotak merah LOL
This tank is so cute, like PZKW 1 and 2, for me nicest of German WW2 tank. Looking good bro, good choice to get back into building :D

xamel1975 - April 14, 2009 05:08 AM (GMT)
Model-X did feature this in their first issue, right? I agree with ahhow... looks like you need lampu mengecil Doraemon if you want to paint the tracks. Or tanya Richard for his trained hamsters  .

Looking forward to the German camo. :)
azlandiver - April 16, 2009 04:10 AM (GMT)

Silantra - April 16, 2009 04:24 AM (GMT)
thanks to all.... this tank indeed is cute... thanks goodness that tamiya did it so good
the tank now is ready to prime...last night 'she' enjoyed the hot bath just like me... so lucky that wife didnt caught me together in the hot bath.. :)
Silantra - April 16, 2009 04:52 PM (GMT)
some more progress ..
the whole tank was primed with Mr Surfacer 1000 thinned with Mr Thinner at 1:8 ratio. It then was shoot with my airbrush inside the new spraybooth....

the cute tank after priming.........

what happen next was so ambarassing... due to the long 'weapon safe' status, i forgot where i put my cleaning thinner, tool cleaner, cotton bud etc.... took a while to get them all and used to the new setup.... phewwwwww!!!
after the primer dried, i then spray the wheels, bottom, track and underneath with Tamiya NATO Black. Okay i lied about handpainting..actually not 100% ..i will handpaint the cammo patten only....

according to schedule, i was supposed to spray the dunkelgeb base coat but due to so many uncertainty, this will be done tomorrow...
thanks for looking... as usual C&C are most welcome.......

Hi Silantra,
Looking at the texture of your cute tank, I noted some form of textured surface not made by a rotary ball bur. To duplicate these texture you can use matting agent a waterbase paste mixed with H20 varnish as binder. Have not tried airbrushing but brushing with fan brush helps. Thereafter when dried, paint as usual.

tauke-filla,
Which texture did u refer to?? Is it the cast iron texture of the gun manlet?? Rotary ball bur as in ball drum??

The cast iron texture. The rotary ball bur will random chip plastic unlike matt coating.

err tauke, i still didnt get what you're trying to say here... blurr la... what kind of effect u want to replicate or ..................
PoohBear - April 17, 2009 07:31 AM (GMT)
Sil, could be wrong but I think what Leong is trying to say is that cast iron textures like how (I think it was-) ari would simulate with his rotary tool is not observed on your cute little tank and he is suggesting an alternative to recreate that cast iron texture by using a matting agent water paste with H20 varnish as binder and that rotary tools creates the effect by grinding away the plastic whilst the proposed alternative matt coating give you the texture without grinding the plastic.

J-bear,
ooohh i see... if that the case la, i think i wont do that as they dont appear on real tank... the hull is made from sheet metal and cut by hot torch.. the only texture is on the gun mantlet which is cast iron...
but if i want to replicate that kind of texture, i will use different method.... motor tool are scary if handle by me... huhuh
thanks J-bear
Silantra - April 17, 2009 05:07 PM (GMT)
another small update...
i applied another coat of Nato Black and let dry. Afterthat, i preshaded with Hull Red... nothing fancy here....

after all have dried, i was ready to apply the basecoat dunkelgeb. Into my dismay, i dont have any color for that..... Murphy's law strike again........
dang!!! how can i didnt check my paint stock....
grrrrrrrr.............. will be back once i got the color...

Thanks PoohBear, for the precise explanation for the cast iron effect with matting agent and H20 binder. Another effect with matting agent as viewed by CK Loo (please help out in description a I am no modeller) is creating hammered finish by waxing plastic base first before applying. This effect have the matting agent gathered randomly due to surface tension and much safer than chipping with a rotary bur.
CK,
So sorry could not recognise you thought was CK Tang as introduced as CK. Only after you left....oh my god its HIM (scream scream)
