The dogburster is about the size of a cat.

Ugly mugshot

What more to do?
- Filling the cavity (especially the legs) with plaster or concrete. Body will be packed with papers.
- Base: need to recreate a steel-like panel with some openings to simulate vents.
- Paintings, of course!

Will concentrate on this fellow this weekend.

CPTan,

Yup, it's vinyl. For priming, I'll be using Gunze's Metal Primer. Need to get them from HHQ this weekend.

xamel1975 - April 6, 2009 12:32 AM (GMT)
Weekend update.

I fill the Dogburster cavity with polyfilla and unused kitty litter pallet. The pallets will 'crytalise' once it came in contact with water (like one of those silica gel). Some heat were generated during this process but not enough to melt or warp the vinyl.

Then I gave the Dogburster a coat of metal primer and later apply the white surfacer.

Once everthing is done, I did some preshading. I use Gunze Acquaeous H65 (Black Green) for the preshading.

Nice work xamel1975... it looks 'alive' :o

xamel1975 - April 6, 2009 03:50 AM (GMT)
Thanks, guys!

This is still far from completion. If time permits, I'm going to do the major painting work on this dog on Wednesday. Still need to work on the base though.

I'm still considering the finishing on this project. Initially, I want it to be 'clean' (no blood, grime, saliva, etc). But now I got this 'crazy' idea on putting some entrails and fur for this project.

We'll see how things go this Wednesday :ph43r: .

p/s: No animals will be harmed for this project.

I guess patience is not my virtue :lol: . I've painted the dog last night so that I could buy me some time on weathering.

The flesh paint over the black green have somehow created a 'bruised effect' on the dog.

Need to adjust the front legs.

After painting I realized there are some areas that needs to be fixed and filled. No problem... I'll use Bondite to fill them and will do some touch up soon.

Then again, ko punya ugama tu unique as Naza says :P

xamel1975 - April 9, 2009 01:46 AM (GMT)
Naza, aku dah apply salmon pink for newborn effect.

Shah, we're all here sama 'ugama' (modeller)... mazhab (genre) je lain-lain :lol: .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update on my 'berhala' project.
Gave the dog a shade of Salmon Pink to give that 'newborn effect'. Right now, overall, the dog looks pink. Will highlight with flesh paint by drybrushing tonight.
keep up the good work
cptan - April 9, 2009 03:18 AM (GMT)
Scary.... but most of the photo shot didn't show much of your beautiful shading effects.... I presume it's the photo lighting issue lar... Can only see some shading in the last pict with darker hue...
Must see this "dog" personally on the coming show. Great stuff!!
I'm thinking of adding some "dripping saliva" (clear putty) from it's mouth, just my 2 kupang.
I used water based acrylic paint for this project. The turpentine from the wash must've reacted with the paint and cleaning up need to be done delicately. Should've used water color for the wash <_< .
dremel - April 13, 2009 05:48 AM (GMT)
nice one harman.....i dono much about this subject....yup u shud use water color....
or u must use gunze trojanlah man....bcoz this kind of effect u need a stronger color....so boleh play with effect kaw2 :)
btw....skin look real bro.....nice one.....well done ;)
xamel1975 - April 14, 2009 01:22 AM (GMT)
Well.... looks like I have to re-do the painting from scratch. My attempt to fix the paint problem have created more and more problem.
The main concern is the paint seems never dries! As of this morning (after 3 days!) the paint is still tacky and felt sticky. This morning before going to work, I dunk the dog into a pail of soap water and leave it there. I will start my repainting work tomorrow night.
disclaimer: No animals were harmed in this project. The dog referred to in this project is my sci-fi creature vinyl kit! Not an actual dog!
xamel1975 - April 21, 2009 01:07 AM (GMT)
As of this morning...
Did some touch up work. The dog was repainted last weekend... this time I use Gunze Lacquer.
bang Man,
Let me get this correct... U first painting was using Gunze metal priming, then white surfacer (Gunze water base I presume), following with gunze water base to pre and post shades.... All OK.
But the last raw sienna oil paint wash "destroy" some area ends up never dries with forever sticky result... Right?
And Ur second try now is using Gunze Lacquer base paint, I presume the first under coat still Gunze metal primer, right?
CP,
Yup, you're right. The destroyed paintjob were Gunze Acquaeos. Easily removed when I dunk the dog into a pail of soap water. I use laundry powder soap like FAB.
The Metal Primer and White Surfacer (Lacquer based) weren't affected during this process.
Bomber Vince - April 21, 2009 03:06 AM (GMT)
that's y i hate gunze aquaeos, never dry. Nice work.
