More info and history of Canberra involvement in Confrontation can be found here Canberra

The Kit,
Last year, MrB gave me this Made in USSR kit with a condition that I have to build it.. I think the original donor of this kit was Shah..right?

The origin of this kit is unknown to me as everything was written in Russian, but it could have been a copy of the old Frog kit, the kit came with raise line , and test fitting on some of the major parts are not too bad.

Instruction is ala Matchbox/Airfix style, and Decal is unusable...
So anybody with spare RAF/RNZAF roundels please let me know..

Construction starts soon..

Go Thomas, Go!

I think this will open up some really good avenues for MGB as the Commonwealth stuff is sorely missed.

Who else is joining the commonwealth????

xamel1975 - March 3, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
Thomas,

Worse case scenario, I think the roundels can be painted on if the size allows you to do so. Much better than decals, I think. Of course, the work will be tedious.

Loo,

I think someone has been 'poisoned' heavily to do the Seafire last week. Don't if he's up to it :D.

mr b - March 3, 2009 03:21 AM (GMT)
Go for It

Hope to see it built soon...............like the kiwi bird logo on the fin............

Yes indeed the kit is from LandyShah ............

:D :D :D

My goodness...yes la, one of kits I passed to Mr B...what? 4 yrs ago?

Yes, I can confirm its a copy of the old Frog kit. There was also a Lightning F6 IIRC. Bought out of a jumble sale when I was still studying ages ago.

So good to see it being built! I am sure you will do a splendid job of it, Thomas :D

Mr B: you still have the Hawker P1127 (Harrier Prototype) kit that was part of this batch?

Xamel : Still waiting for Seafire to take off!

mr b - March 3, 2009 10:52 AM (GMT)
Yes Landy still got the Harrier ........................infact had a look at it recently and put it back to rest...............sayang to build ..............

As mentioned, most of wht was passed over were given to deserving collectors/ builders........got a few left over............only keeping the harrier, puma and good old blunty which I built very soon after they were passed over........

landyshah - March 3, 2009 11:05 AM (GMT)
I am glad that those kits which I never got around to building are now seeing the light of day.

That Harrier....I think it was 1968 or something on the postage stamp rite? Older than most of us, I also was too sayang to build it, take out and look only once in a way haha

I remember there were 2 Hercs, 2 Lightnings, Jet Provost, Lanc Dambuster, Heron, Phantom, Puma, Tornados, Bucs....I had an RAF fetish then...and C47's, Hase wild Weasel, 1/48 B29 and 1/32 F104 among others.

Hopefully these will be built and posted here by whoever who took them. That would be sweet :D

Sorry to hijack ur thread Thomas with all this nostalgia

Landy most of them were sold on the forum on behalf of you ........let see if I can remember ..........

I remember there were 2 Hercs 1 to Thomas and 1 to Wui Chong

2 Lightnings - No recollection
3) Jet Provost - That was given to me with the rest of the freebees
4) Lanc Dambuster - No idea,
5) Heron - Purchased by me
6) Phantom Wild Weasel - Sold to Mr Low on your behalf
7) Puma - Part of the freebee
8)Tornados - No Idea
9) Bucs - Cannot remeber the forumer
10) C-47 - I purchased one and the other one you gave to Aidy
11) B-29 - Wui Chong purchased on your behalf
12) F-104 - I think this one you sold to Kuman

And now you know most of these fine folk

You forgot the Jaguar I purchased from you too..........thats currently resides in Singapore.........Mr Jason Cheah delivered it on behalf to Mr Gareth in Singapore.....

Time Flys .............ah does my memory serve me correct? You had a few more gems at that time you were not interested to part with ...I think the Tornado and Dambuster ...........fall into that catagory

Your additional free stuff

There was a Av Harrier Italeri in parts
Some russian prop trainer
A airfix hunter
A airfix Javelin - Given to Thomas
I think got one or two more.............anyone interested let me know........I do not think I will ever get to them.......
I think one or two were taken by Aidy as well...........

Well thats my memory .........If it serves me correctly..........
Tom..........sorry for highjacking but Landy brought back some memories......so go on with the Javelin next.......

landyshah - March 4, 2009 05:25 AM (GMT)

mr b - March 4, 2009 07:11 AM (GMT)

Cool build, Thomas! Nice pics too.

This may be what you need:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=ML72144

A bit expensive though.

Perhaps I should make time to build one of my Airfix 1/72 B(I)6 to keep your Cranberry company...

masterqq - March 5, 2009 01:04 AM (GMT)
Aidy,

This is the decal I am looking for.. thanks for the lead..yah it is very pricy, Let me consider the option to mask and spray first..

B,
This is all I have regarding the javelin, the airfix kit gave both 60 and 64 sqn marking that based in Singapore..I think this is relevant

Hi,

Construction started, first I replaced the tombstone looking kit's seat with a spare seat I found in my part bin, I also added a plastic card to make the cockpit less see through..next I will paint these whole thing black.

The wings and tanks are also join, fitting is not to bad..

I decided not to rescrib this one, because I want to try the post shading technique..

more to come.

aidy - March 14, 2009 01:54 AM (GMT)
Thomas,

Better check on the wing tanks. From what reading I've done, they were rarely fitted in theater. It seems the RNZAF only fitted tip tanks for long ferry flights (from/to NZ-B'worth) and some missions where the Canberra flew solo to faraway bases.

masterqq - March 23, 2009 03:43 AM (GMT)
Aidy,

Thanks for the info. I will decide on the wing tanks later...

anyway, More update..

- Added weight into the nose
- Boxed in the front wheel bay
- Joint the fuselage..
- Seam filled with super glue..

Next will be working on those seam lines

PoohBear - March 23, 2009 04:07 AM (GMT)
Odd bit of kit design that the joint split goes from center (tail end) to offset (front end)

landyshah - March 23, 2009 06:12 AM (GMT)
Actually I think it is because the canopy is offset to the left cos the nav sits on his right inside the fuselage....

There is actually a build of this very kit here

PoohBear - March 23, 2009 06:28 AM (GMT)
Yup, offset canopy / cockpit. Thanks for that bit of info.

Just shows how much I know about this bird. ^_^

cheers

masterqq - March 23, 2009 06:32 AM (GMT)
Shah is right.. but the Nav guy got the non ejection version of seat..

PoohBear - March 23, 2009 06:41 AM (GMT)
So the poor guy is expected to go down with the bird? Golly....

masterqq - April 14, 2009 02:17 AM (GMT)
Gang.....

Finally more work done over the Easter weekend..

There is noting much can be seen in the black cockpit after the thick kit's canopy close... this is how it look like before I close the canopy.

Next are the painting stages as shown in below photos. .I use Gunze RAF color set. Ocean grey /Dark green with offwhite bally.

user posted image

For the serial, I chose the easiest No. NZ6111, and I mask and spray the required serial.

user posted image

Next will be the decal, the RNZAF roundel got a fern leaf in the center, All I have are the generic RAF roundels, I must figure a way to add the fern or I may just use the RAF roundel instead.. later….

kuman - April 14, 2009 03:24 AM (GMT)
:D
wah thomas... they didnt provide decal for the serial ka?
very delicate process... :D

Kuman,
Kit Decal tak boleh pakai langsung, I wanted the NZ punya marking, so kena spray sendiri lah.. :D

Anyway I found the required ferns decal from an old and unknown A-4 decal that a friend passed to me.. Here is more progress..some touch up still needed..
