There's some issue need to be ironed out regarding the cockpit color. Some say it's all black while some says only the tub is black, with grey seat. Need to find out more about this.

Looks like its going to be a show stopper.............!

Tracking your progress............by the way what colour are you planning for the green on the camo? based on some pictures..........the green used does not really match with the gunze green..........for Isreali camo.........

B,

You're right about the green. Gives me a headache too. I use Gunze Lacquer for all my builds. The correct color for the green if I'm not mistaken is Duck Egg Green (Tamiya). Gunze Acqueous have it too.

I'm thinking of thinning the Gunze's IAF Green with white or light grey. I'll let you know once I'm done with the research/experiment.

rtfoe - February 18, 2009 09:26 AM (GMT)
Hi Harman,

I wouldn't worry about the shade of green. Mix if you have to and test dry on scrap plastic that has been primed with what ever primer you use and check against references you have.

Batches of paints in bottles aren't always 100% accurate. Depending on how you stir the paint also creates the outcome of the shade.

The best is to have a cut out panel from the actual plane itself but then you'll have to be crazy to do it.

Also tracking your build although jets aren't my kinda stuff. Might learn somethin.

Richard.

The Gunze green FS 34227 (?) is only for the IDF F-4, Kfir and other early types.

This colour isn't used on the F-16 or the F-15I, so I agree duck egg green is the correct one.

Thanks for that

Need to pick up a Egg green from Tamiya myself..........

Hope to see progress as eariler mentioned

yo Harman, finally... keep it coming.

aidy - February 19, 2009 02:57 PM (GMT)
Harman,

From what I've gathered, all F-16A/B Netz had medium gray cockpits. Black cockpits came with the Block 40 C/D Barak.

Also, from multiple past discussions on several forums, it is largely agreed upon that the closest match for the light green would be Testor's Sky Type 'S'. I think MH still have plenty in stock.

Had circumstances been somewhat different than it is today, I'd have joined you with a Tamiya Barak but looks like I'll just have to follow your build for now. Since you'll be putting in a lot effort (and resin) into this build, I'll gladly donate a resin ACES II seat to liven up the cockpit. Drop by when you can to pick it up.

p/s- i've read on other builds that the Wolfpack nose is undersized...

xamel1975 - February 20, 2009 12:32 AM (GMT)
Aidy,

Thanks for the offer on the ACES II seat but I'll pass. I'm going to have a pilot in the cockpit so the kit's seat is good enough for me.

Also thanks for the info on the green and the info of the undersized Wolfpack Design's nose. Need to check it. Worst case scenario, I'll just use the kit's nose and update the necessary details.

f-4dablemodels - February 20, 2009 04:36 AM (GMT)
Harman,

I reckon the problem of the undersized nose is b'cos of shrinkage of the casting.

I understand all resin parts have a degree of shrinkage, which can't be avoided.

Nose cones are particularly problematic, because shrinkage = undersized

Jason,

You're right. I think Wolfpack Design made their master using the kit's nose and then use that to produce their detailed nose. It's best to have the master approximately 1mm bigger than the actual size to compensate the rubber mold expansion.

Update...

I thought I can accomplish a lot during the weekend but due to some impromptu family gathering, not much could be done.

Step into my office please...

I prefer to have a pilot in the cockpit.

I've added some colours to the button. Using red and yellow to make the cockpit more interesting.

True enough, the resin nose is undersized. The difference is about 1mm. No point for me to fix that so I just use the kit's nose and added the details using .010 (0.25mm) Evergreen strips.

Update without photo.

Test fit the cnopy and found out that it doesn't fit! Apparently the seat is too high that the top of the seat hinders the canopy to fit in properly. There's about a good 1mm gap between the canopy and fuselage.

Notice in this photo the pilot's arm is outside the cockpit tub <_< .

In other news... the gaping intake has been painted and the bird has been given a first wave putty treatment.

Need to tackle the cockpit/canopy issue first. <_<

f-4dablemodels - March 19, 2009 02:57 AM (GMT)
Harman,

The problem is the pilot's legs which is a tight fit between the instrument panel.

It's causing the ejection seat to sit higher.

I was working on a Hase F-16A sometime back and noticed the same problem. It's as if the pilot & the seat have to be installed on the cockpit tub before you close up the fuselage.

Think you might still be able to fiddle around a bit with the pilot to make him/her sit better.

xamel1975 - March 19, 2009 03:32 AM (GMT)
Jason,

Thanks for the info. I'll try to fix the pilot and seat tonight.

Edit: Based on Jason's advice, I yanked out the pilot and amputate the leg. Now the canopy fits perfectly.

YAY!!!!

Trying something different here. Since the Netz will be 'airborne'; I decided to try simulate the 'burning exhaust' effect. Using some off-white, yellow and clear orange; I tried to simulate the flaming effect.

Lan,

Go ahead and copy. You have my blessing  .

Been wondering what weapon to load on these birds. Most photos I have shows Netz carrying Sidewinders. Some say they do carry Phython 4 but so far haven't seen any photo of it.

Other missiles that I have are from Skunkmodels set like the Popeyes and Spice.

Hmm...

Larrance,

Coffee doesn't work for me anymore. Already immune to caffeine. I can have coffee late at night and still sleep like a baby  . Some say apples is much more better stimulant.

Update without photo - sister borrowed my camera.

After series of painting, both Netz are now at early stage of decal works. Manage to stay up until 2 am to work on the decal. Not much applied yet though.

I'm going with Golden Eagle Sq. for both Netz but have to look for 2nd set of tail decal (I'm sure I have it somewhere in my Israeli stash)

Undercarriage stores and Pave Penny pod have not even painted yet. Might go for clean config at the moment and mount the stores after the event. Not much choice on the weapons since most of my reference shows that the Netz mostly carries Sidewinders. A few photo shows that it carries, I'm not sure; GBU-12?

So tonight I'm gonna burn more midnight oil and hope I can get all the decals applied.

Harman,

U can do it... as for my vipers, I think the venezuelan one will have only a pair of side winder. I spend 2.5 hrs just to decal the pair of Python for the sufa..phew.....

Dear Harman,
I think us guys all are immuned to caffeine already except some guys which are totally allergic to it.
For me, masuk kerja sampai balik already taken min. 3 mugs of coffee daily. Sometimes more and yet @ home may add another 2 more mugs. :D
Time to sleep...like you said, sleep like a baby..my case like a log. :D
I think the blue pill is much more effective then apples. ;)

Well, 2 more days to go...sadly my progress is too slow and I really hope I can make it to this Saturday VGB. Tonite going to all out hantam to complete my builds. Just do only don't care already. Janji siap!!
