Hi All,
After being in progress for a while, I think I may have completed this build. took druid's advise to stick to olive drab. safer colour compared to the sky blue/baby blue camo which I duly sprayed over.
here it is un-weathered:

wa mechwarrior! i would love to try one of those............ :P
compare to the before n after, i think weathering did a very good job. Definitely make the kit looks much nicer, especially initially i thought your shading is a little too strong.
About the mud on the foot, mebbe is the photo, besides there r lots of mud sticking around the feet area, i cant see any at any part of the body. looking at the amount of mud on the feet, the swamp should be wet and pretty deep when the mecha walk thru it. So it should have a little stain on other parts of the body too, with the assumption the mud should splash when the machine moving.
Another thing is the so-called "inner frame" or the non-armor parts of the body. With only grey color and kinda gloss finish, it's very easy for your viewer to recognize it as "plastic". My suggestion is, remain the armor as gloss/semi gloss, while the gray parts try to make them flat. first it ll have a bigger contrast giving your kit more stuff to look at, second, i think it ll be easier for people to relate the gray part as metal instead of plastic.
of mebbe u can add a little real metal here n there to enhance the "metal" feel of the inner frame.
This is just my two cents worth.
Again, envy ........ i wish i have one to work with.... :P

Ray,
Me too! But the thing costs a bomb in the net....
giantmecha - January 25, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
Hi Ray...you are right...my wife gave the same comments too la... said it still looked kinda plastic. at least now I know specifically what to work on. thasks bro.
Loo, I know its slightly expensive, but if ppl can buy a PG Gundam this cost slightly more only...although this is more work than a Gundam la. this is actually the Wizkids version, cheaper than the amorcast version but badly painted. that's why I kinda used it as practice first before formally moving on to the real thing. need to horn my skills more me thinks before touching it...

Funny thing is... I first started buying the kit off the net, then realised I need to put it together, need to paint, so start searching the net for other ppl's work, how they did it etc. decided to shelf it first cos it was too expensive to ruin, and decided to start with a practice mech. In the end after more researching end up buying paints, AB, putty, brushes etc etc etc the works la basically....till now still haven't formally touched it yet...lol...also in the end, ended up spending more money than I initally planned and got myself into a hobby with no end.
there is no getting out of this one now is there?

Looks great Giantmecha... I agree with Rayloke on the plastic look there... I think it will look better in flat paints like all tanks.
Oh yeah, better pay some attention on the seam lines... I see a few on the arm...

ok guys some updates to the build, use oil paint to blend in the various shades of green, flat clear the kit so it doesn't look plastic, misted some dust unto the areas where it usually collects and used some pigment to dust the kit up some more.
by comparison with the old pics I think more realistic, but not sure what else is missing. was looking at some of the tank builds for reference, so am trying to employ the same method, but somehow I think I am missing something just dunno what.
anyway, here are the pics so c&c welcome.

I think its a job well done, though personally I would have preferred a heavier weathering scheme with lots of battle scars, faded paint work, replaced panels, etc....
Incidentally the Activision Mechwarrior 2 CD-rom box cover is still sitting pretty in my cupboard and the rendering on the boxart is just perfect!

looks good but as Loo mentioned...a little bit more weathering would make it look great.
say, just curious...possible to do a size comparison for the kit? I've always been curious abt the size...considering the price the thing costs on the net
