Title: Hologram Yoda
Description: Molding and casting
Abiwan - January 9, 2009 04:11 AM (GMT)
Hi All, I'm newbie here. I love to try on molding and casting miniatures.
Courtesy of Products from Multifilla;
I manage to pull thru Master Yoda hologram based on WOTC model; Mold is using Multifilla Polymer rubber and Casting is using Polyester Liquid. Here is my attempt. Not bad for first timer I think ... Anyway .. please give comments.

Thanks

Abi wan, Size does matter. The smaller the more challenging. Show original against ruler or something everyone can identify.
Well done first timer and without vacuum casting an achievement.
Now who is saying casting is difficult.

well it clear resin so it a bit hard to see the detail in photo .
hmm any one use a vacuum tank befor ?

Nice job...would really like to learn about your casting process as well. Am also curious about the costs involved for the raw materials. Have always been interested in casting my own figures but lack the skillz....

Hollow make, if you can. Lighting for it with LED is good.

Not necessary to hollow as LED will light up polyester/epoxy casting.
Maybe hollow to conceal flat battery and micro switch in the base.

Abiwan,
We have 1" diameter mirror display stand in different heights for your miniature casting.
All solid hard wood for further polish or spraying as mirror can be removed before final fixing with adhesive disc provided.
Rm 10.00 upwards.

Well, I am thinking of casting this handle bar into clear part for the LEDs. But my place does not have the space to put chemicals.

The epoxy clear set is in 250g resin and hardener. Not much space needed to keep. Same with PU rubber mold in same size container. Further more no smell as you mix and cast. Strongly recommend a vacuum pump at Rm 19.00 to degass epoxy.
You may embed Led in epoxy as many electrical parts are similarly sealed. Bring your master the rest is history.

OK. Let me get some time to make the holes for the LEDs first. Overwhelmed with work for the past two weeks (again).

Since you are having a light source, why not tap this energy via fiber cable to screen, dials and rest of body work decorations.
After which mount on a mirror display. The wooden display base could be hollowed out to conceal battery, microswitch or even a musical chime that is movement activated.
A real blink blink attention getter.
Just a bit of advance planning.
