Title: Scalemodelsmalaysia 2008/2009
Description: Time to build your entries!
Loo CK - December 10, 2008 06:03 AM (GMT)
Ladies and Gents,
As most of the December events are now coming to its end, it is time to announce the next SFTPMS event which is the annual ScaleModelsMalaysia 2008/2009 event.
ScaleModelsMalaysia 2008/2009 will continue where SMM2007 ended. SMM is an open category model appreciation event where SFTPMS panel of judges will evaluate each and every entry for eligibility of medals, ranging from Bronze, Silver and the Gold awards. There is no limit to the number of medals in each and every category and amongst all the models, one particular entry will be awarded the Best of Show, where the challenge trophy will be awarded. This challenge trophy will then bear the name and the entry for the year until 2009/2010 where it will be returned for the next evaluation.
SFTPMS is finalising the venue and sponsorship details and will also post the categories concerned including the judging criteria. SMM08/09 will be held in the 2nd weekend of March 2009 in KL.
ScaleModelsMalaysia is not a competition but rather an opportunity to gauge your own modelling skill levels in the eyes of your peers. It is also a time to meet up with your modelling 'kakis' once in a year. For this year, we will hold it in conjunction with the SFTPMS AGM. It would be great to see you there!
Keep posted for updates
Kind regards
CK Loo\for SFTPMS

Great news El Presidente... I have a few models in mind that I always wanted to build/finish (especially my 1/24 Junkers) and hopefully it will be ready by then... :D
One suggestion on the venue... New HHQ location??? :D :D :D
Loo CK - December 10, 2008 06:40 AM (GMT)
Druid,
As SMM features the best of the modelling scene in Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia, SFTPMS wil try to get as much exposure to the general public as this helps in membership recruitment and to promote awareness. We had some initial plans to hold the events at the more popular shopping complexes but of course this will await their approval to give us the space for free as a community service! Initial talks have already been made with IKANO.
Fingers crossed!
Regards
CK Loo

El Presidente, I presume you still keep the cut hair for your Nagato project, right?
With coming ScaleModelsMalaysia 2008/2009.... I presume I'll have to surrender the "Best of show" trophy back to the club for the coming new holder lar... I'll pollish it up then.

My dear Mr. Jay "Ham" Chan, ;)
On behalf of SFTPMS, I sincerely want to convey our gratitute and thankfulness for you kind support, but I do hope the support that u mean is to the SOCIETY, not to our al-presidente Mr. CK Loo... (Perhaps he is attracted to his new hair style... more stylo-mylo.. )
Do make sure your 1/6 figure entry is under the "U" category, nothing under "18SX" since we may not have enough event marshalls to perform IC checking during the showtime.
Ciao and happy building! :)
Loo CK - December 12, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)
Will,
well said.
Tomcat, knowing your skills, no problem with coming out with some wonderful "halal" kits to show. The other kits, we go over them over a cup of teh tarik!
Loo CK - December 28, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
Gents and gals,
We have had a few venue offers for the event and the most convenient location is still at Cineleisure. This time round, Richard of Outpost has agreed to let us have the space at the top landing of the escalator where he has his collectibles retail section. Lots of traffic there and will do nicely for exposure.
For those unfamiliar with SMM rules, the basic summary is this:
1) Its an open category judging event to gauge your skills for eligibility of SFTPMS medals. In this way, you compete against yourself and you can gauge your skills every year on your own pace to see your improvements. The awards are for gold, silver, bronze and merit.
2)Models which have won in past SFTPMS organised SMM events are not eligible unless the said kit have now been mod to a different genre, ie: from plane to diorama, etc...
3)There is no entry charge for active SFTPMS members for 2009. Non members will be charged an entry fee of RM5 per model.
4)A BEST of SHOW challenge trophy will be given to the model which to the judges opinion is the best for the year, regardless whether its a gold, silver or bronze medal recipient. The trophy is to be returned for the next SMM event.
5)The judging criteria is based on the IPMS judging standards with the weightage of the categories adjusted to meet our local modelling standards. Essentially, your models are judged on your skills in construction, painting, realism, accuracy and presentation. A follow up post on the judging standards will be up shortly so that participants are more aware of what judges generally look out for.
I strongly encourage all modellers to join in as this events belongs exclusively to SFTPMS and this is represents our MALAYSIAN modelling standards in the eyes of the world ( that is until we have enough members throughout Malaysia to change our society to "MALAYSIA PLASTIC MODELLING SOCIETY"). Time to stand up and be counted as I have seen a lot of quality work throughout this year.
Appreciate a list of participating models to be posted here as the organising team needs to plan the venue size suitability and logistics. Last year, the entry count was over 50. Can we make a 100 this year? That would be nice!
Who's first on the list?
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
ps: refreshments will be served on the 2nd day! Family of SFTPMS members are invited. Date to be announced.....but likely to be on 7-8th March.

Holy P - December 28, 2008 10:42 AM (GMT)
Dear Tauke Loo,
I wonder there is any difference of the SMM2008/2009 Event from the Minicon Annual Event?
The keys sentences:
| QUOTE |
| you compete against yourself and you can gauge your skills every year on your own pace to see your improvements |
but I still do not really get a full picture of it.
If it is not too troublesome, can you or other sifus can provide some enlightenment to the contest newbies like me?
Regards.
Loo CK - December 28, 2008 12:33 PM (GMT)
loh,
the basic difference is there is no limit to the number of awards. a useful example is like joining a 100m race. if you can finish below 10sec, you get a gold medal, below 11sec, silver, etc...... so you compete against your own skills. in minicon, there is only one award per category, so limited awards. the 2nd best kit will not know they are in contention for top honors.
Viper - December 28, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
Hi, Loh,
For the minicon, there's basically just 2 awards for each category. So, all the modellers are competing against each other for that limited number of awards.
For SMM, you are pretty much competing against yourself and not against other modellers.
Based on what I understand from last year's event, there is a set of criteria that the judges are looking for in a model. Each medal will have a set of criterias that need to be met and so long as a participant's model meets that criteria then he/she qualifies for a medal. E.g. if the model meets the criterias for gold, then the participant gets a gold. No need to compete against others to bring something home :)

I still not confirm which model to set.
Holy P - December 31, 2008 06:18 AM (GMT)
Questions:
1. May I know if one can only allowed for 1 model?
2. Any scale size is fine eventhough 1/72, 1/76 Armoured (noted that Minicon doesn't take them)?
3. Any dateline must registered?
TQ
xamel1975 - December 31, 2008 07:11 AM (GMT)
Loh,
Based on last event:
A person can send in as many as one desired.
Any scale is eligible to enter.
Registration on the first day of the event.
As I recalled, the judges spend the whole weekend judging the entries. Went home in wee hour and came back early the next morning to continue the judging process.

Imran,
ko modified le sikit baru eligible... hehehe... tukar tayar ke sport rim ke ..
Loo CK - December 31, 2008 09:30 AM (GMT)
Gents and ladies,
Any model is eligible as long as it has not won any medal in ScaleModelsMalaysia 2007.
However if the model has entered a competition other than SMM and had won prizes, it will still be valid for judging but for medals only and not for any other sponsored prizes. The committee is still working on the sponsorship of prizes.
For druid_99's case, the Banshee is OK for medal judging......
As for the rules and criteria, they will be posted shortly.
