very nice shah.

PoohBear - December 3, 2008 11:39 PM (GMT)
Well done :)

Overall finish and weathering looks to be okay.

Is that the Tamiya Vosper?

cheers

landyshah - December 4, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments & compliments. It's never ending learning and a long way to go....

Its actually the MHM Vosper, which is a rip off of the Tamiya kit. Fair amount of cleaning up to do, but it comes together ok lah

RMN had 4 of these in service from 1967-77. They were fast, 50kts + running on 3 gas turbine. Must hv been fabulous machines.

The KD Sri Terengganu in Melaka TLDM museum is in fact similar, but powered by diesels, also made by Vosper

This guy has some great info about old TLDM ship:

Great job!!

What scale and make are the U-Boats?

Like the fact that you mount your builds on stands and proper display cases. helps with overall presentation.

Richard.

koowilliams - December 4, 2008 02:36 AM (GMT)

landyshah - December 4, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
haha, jangan la master koo...kita cuba cuba sahaja

I've always thot model are like picture, kena ada frame cantik...then the final presentation stands out. Anyways, cabinet is important for ship cos my apartment banyak habuk la

U Boats are in 1/144 Revell. I'm gathering courage to start on the 1/72 versions......ada 2 biji in the stash...

Here's a couple more of the Vosper :

Loo CK - December 4, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)

landyshah - December 4, 2008 05:48 AM (GMT)

Jalur gemilang and msian naval ensign was internet image, then resized, and printed onto decal paper. Its useful for to make the off-beat subjects.
Usual method using PC and printer, but cant use all the time cos can be bit thick:

so apa lagi.. build the 1/72 u-boat!!! :D

kuman

landyshah - December 5, 2008 06:19 AM (GMT)

Hello Bro Kuman

Thanks....Schellboot 1/72 ada dalam stor....not yet start. Maybe next in the queue. The Italeri 1/35 one looks great, but I think very very expensive la...maybe RM 600+...phew.

Sabarrr.....Just started on new project (deep breath!)

Tima kacih tuan, yeah memang kita suka boat

Since menggatal ambik pic, I took some of a build I made about 14 years ago for nostalgic value.....before the days of resin, PE, aftermarket or even internet haha...pure plastic only with a bit of added scratchbuilt details from sprue and plastic sheet. Workmanship that time oso not so great la...e.g shud have drilled out the gun barrel of the Oerlikon

Airfix 1/72 RAF Rescue Launch. Doesnt have a proper base, I guess it deserves one. Nice old kit of a unique subject. Hope you all like it, and as always, pointer and comment are very welcome to improve my skills.

shah,

Nice boat and sub with matching wheathering. I personally prefer the boat.

1 comment though.. I think the jack staff (which flies the Jalur Gemilang) is suppose to be at the bow while the ensign staff which flies the RMN ensign is suppose to be at the stern of the ship.

landyshah - December 5, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the comment Mr Hun, well noted.

I followed the reference from this pic:

http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/images/perkasa.jpg

where the ensign was flying from the mast, and no flag at the bow.

Wasnt sure where the jalur gemilang shud be, although in later RMN vessel it is as you say. I just followed that pic in the end and assume the jalur gemilang was on the stern, since so few pic reference on this particular class, one was better than nothing but still got some details wrong

Anyone got another Vosper for sale? Want to try again and get it all right haha!

Very many thanks anyway, will keep in mind for future.

f100supersabre - December 5, 2008 04:45 PM (GMT)
shah,

You may be right. I didn't notice the ensign u put up at the mast on the pic until u mentioned it. The ensign is displayed on the main mast (normally at midship, i missed this one out) and also at times at the stern. The reason is when in battle when the ensign is lowered, it means the ship has surrendered so if the main mast is hit, the second ensign will still be flying. The ensign is flown at all times when sailing but when alongside, the ensign is flown in the morning colours ceremony and lowered at sunset.

But the jalur gemilang's position is normally at the bow or head and is normally flown when the ship is not underway and/or dressed for special occasions.

I think in actual fact, u didn't get the details wrong except for position of the Jalur Gemilang. And you should also be proud to be able to have such quality builds.

Lovely work all around

Love the perkasa and the rescue boat..........which is actually in my opinion crying for a diorama.......

nice

landyshah - December 7, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
hello brian

Thanks. Agreed, a diorama would be nice. I was thinking for a long time about a Battle of Britain scene with the rescue boat and a ditched Spitfire or something...but never got around to it....I think too much thinking is no good, should just go ahead and do-lah haha!

charlie130 - April 2, 2009 03:02 AM (GMT)
Great work! but a very modest modeller!

Want to build a 1/24 scale Schnellboote? I have got one?

The Italeri 1/35th is beautiful but so is the price.

Keep up the good work.

Charlie 130

multifilla - April 2, 2009 04:48 AM (GMT)
Very nice work and base looks too small.
Has anyone ever set a boat on a block of epoxy cast in situ as a section of the ocean.
Just thinking a choppy sea and a rocking ship makes realistic diorama.

landyshah - April 2, 2009 12:39 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the kind words guys.

Just to update on that Rescue boat, have since given it a decent home to suit its old age of 15 years :D

Mr Charlie, I do have the 1/35 Sboot, but havent built yet. I didnt know got 1/24th? WAH!!!

Loo CK - April 2, 2009 02:08 PM (GMT)
Charlie130,
good to have you back from lurking in the shadows! :D
Hope all's well.

btw, landy; the casing looks a little bit overwhelming. I would recommend a slightly smaller size and less wood finish.

landyshah - April 2, 2009 02:14 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the very valid comment, and agreed towkay Loo

This was not made to measure....it was an old case for something else i had lying around collecting dust..so recycle haha

As you say, too wide, and I prefer dark wood (since then all my other cases i used dark wood) thats subdued and doesnt take away from the model

But jadi lah to protect this old build :D

multifilla - April 3, 2009 01:03 AM (GMT)
To darken wood if not varnished or shellac apply sealer polish that will penetrate into wood fibres. The more layers applied the darker the wood. Thereafter when dried, buff to a nice sheen for the natural aged wood finish. It also highlight any wood grain patterns well. A solvent base polish assured of deep penetration.
