Title: Btr-90 (no Marking)...hahahahaha
Description: 1/12 100% scratchbuilt...I'm scared:(
dremel - November 3, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
Hi Guys….
Another scratch built project that’s will be display at Indon Defense 08. Base on the drawing that’s I’d downloaded, there are dissimilarity between BTR-70/80 and BTR-90. I don’t know much about tank actually, at first plan I just want to copy from dragon BTR-70 that’s I borrowed from 1 of my collector. When I compare both drawing (1/35) and kit, there are a lot of different in term of seize and proportions. Therefore I’d just choose to scratch built base on drawing.
Here an outline drawing…..

I did not shot many pictures on this built because I’ve less than 3 weeks + 1/18 Ciksu that I’ve to submit at the same time. It’s a bit tough thou; this is because of decision delay on this project so I’ve to start a bit late from what I’d plan.
Usually I will translate from 2d drawing to a sections but this times I just cut it straight from the drawing that’s I’d enlarge, It’s consider a scary task but then I feel confident because flat shape will be an easier for calculation and measurement. Had been tried to build as good as I can in a very tight schedule……
Here the Pictures that’s I’d be able to shot……
Rough Shape…..

Comparison with me….wakakakakaka :P

Managed to add a basic detailing, will add a small parts soon as hinge, holder, light, and equipment ….etc….soon

Some section at side area has to redo.....miss look :ph43r:  :( :D
That’s all guys……as usual C&C, Q&A ARE Welcome…..
Cheers….Happy modeling…..
Best Regards
Naza

Hi Nazar,
Wow!...that's one huge BTR. For the wheels have you thought of carving a master from wood and patching details with bondite.
My uncle made a 1/24 scale Comando V-150 out of wood during his days in the Army. He's retired now. He used to be the RSM based in Kuantan. His name is Edgar W. Foenander. Don't know if Mejar knows him or not. I think another uncle was in the armoured corp or recce. His name was Trevor Foenander.
Well, the tires were made from wood which was sculpted with motor tools.
Maybe you can try. Of course if you are looking for ready made tires then it should be the other way around meaning you build from the tire scale upwards.
Hope you can find the right size tires.
Richard.
druid_99 - November 3, 2008 08:54 AM (GMT)
Naza, scratchbuild jee tayar tu...
Use wood and get the shape, then use plastic strips to add detail like for the bunga tayar... As for the rims, depends whether you want to scratchbuild together with the tyre or separately...
I think together with the tyre is easier. THen you can cast a lot in one go...

Sifu,
Thats why I'm numb....no decision on wheel was made yet.I would love to try to carve it. I think i can handle it, balsa wood migh be the best material, what i'm worry now, times.....i try to short cut actually, if still can't get the right tyre, i will build it from scratch and make a mold.
Any how still have a few more days to thinks about it,
Sifu, In less than 3 weeks.....i just pick up the important detail to fit the date line. Let see how its turn out. i had been choosed because they confident i can deliver on time. huhuhuhu :(
Thanks so much for the sugestion...
p/s- wah your uncle also talented sifu.....wish can korek some tips from him.... :)

Nazar,
What my uncle really did was make only two half of the tire and then sandwich them together. If you notice the threads are the same on both sides just off aligned them when you glue them.
For you just need to do one half and then cast the rest of the halfs, sand and glue together.
Your BTR got how many wheels?
Richard.

Thanks for the tips sifu, its sound practical to me.....
BTR-90 got 8 wheels....so i need to cast 16 of one half rite?....
so i've to make the rime separate, iner and outer rim.....am i right?
Thanks in advance sifu.....

That's right Nazar,
Make only one half of the tire with the center empty to fit inner or outer rim when casting.
Hope this works for you.
Richard.

caya la Naza... gempak habis....
salute you on all the details... the tube and grenades launcher is perfectly fabricated..
so there is going to be a engine grille next??
i compare to my btr-70, the only surface details that need to do is the large bolts around the back of the engine deck..
there are not so many details on this vehicle...
seeing your work make me wanna start back on my btr-70... huhuh
superb bro........
i pin this thread

Sorry menyampuk thread Naza...
I think you can get it at Toh Plastic Distributor in Jalan Pekeliling (same row with the Pekeliling Bus Station, nearby as well) it's by the roadside and you can't miss it. The only problem there is parking lah.
I think you can easily get 3 feet x 6 feet in less than RM50. :D

Bro ,
Yup Im,.Toh Plastic tel-0340417549, They got 4fx3f. How the thickness bro, 2mm like i used for BTR-90 is RM68.00 I sheet. 1mm is about RM40++.
