Hi JBA welcome back :)
The water effects is beautiful and is that a couple of small whirlpools in there? The reflectance of the water is a nice touch too.
Lovely work all round.
Thanks for sharing.
cheers

Another fantastic diorama from you JB.
You amaze me (as always) with the sea effect and the level of details you added in the diorama.

Amazing effect! A truly masterpiece of art!
JBA - October 14, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
thank you guys :) i did this diorama quite quickly as I had 1 month alone at home last July with very few to do. It was very good to renew with some old habits from the youth -being able to knock up a diorama in less than 3 months B)
I have got one other big diorama in the pipeline, but it won't be ready before next spring (summer?)
I wish you all well :D

JB, mind my asking, how and with what materials did you use to make the rolling sea wave with such depth & height?
cheers

thanks masterqq B)
PoohBear, here is the technique: I use a form

that I cover with latex strengthened with gauze

I pour several coats of epoxy resin, then I let it dry

Then some colour correction according to a direction of the light I set

Of course you should not forget to add small amounts of lightly tinted acrylic gel for the bits of foam between coats

And that's it really, the trick is not being too much in a hurry :D

Thanks for sharing, JB.
Will be useful for future water projects :)

 Whoa! u make it sounded so easy...................
The wave is so beautiful! mebbe i m very interested in making water effect, i missed the centre piece, twice, when i looked at your dio. i think the water steal the limelight!
Awesome work!

Rayloke, so easy.. it is also a matter of having all the material at disposition and being patient during setting times! thanks for your comments :)
Klay, Poohbear, thanks a million and good luck for your own sea projects :)

Bonjour JB,
I've always enjoyed your dios for the moods they create but looking at your latest it struck me there is something that I've missed as well..... Motion frozen in time. From the little kid playing at the beach where the wave is just about to crash on shore, to the man hanging clothes on a half sunken boat in a pond where the clothes are gently swaying in the wind to your beautiful dio here where a wave reaches its highest point.
I've always enjoyed viewing dios for their details and storyline but your dios my friend has widened my narrow perspective of dios and given me the possibility of dios creating moods as well as motion. Thanks for sharing these with us here.

Thanks CK, Indeed I realized that i could't relate much to static dioramas showing static scenes. So that was indeed the point with this one, showing something collapsing just right now,
thanks for your comments as always :)
btw, i thought your own "grandma" diorama certainly showed direction too :)

JBA,
Fantastic!! Awesome!! The water effect is so real!! I don't know if we have those compounds over here??? I would love to try this out.

JBA,
:o ....I really love your execution of the water and the deterioration of the boat. The depth of color and contrast is amazing.... :o (Speechless...only managed those few words until your dio hit me again between the eyes)
Richard.

Thanks Uncle Sarge
Actually i think you can find polyester resin for sure where you live -but if you could -better find *epoxy* resin, it's far less dangerous for health though it doesn't dry that fast. usually, people into boats or plane repairs use those resins.
happy you're hit Richard! that's the best way of being hit I suppose :)

Stunning Job JBA!
its almost as if you have a 3D camera, I can even smell the salt spray of the sea.
