Title: 1/60 Mechwarrior Vulture
Description: the queen's royal guard

giantmecha - September 8, 2008 01:17 PM (GMT)
trying to finish this diorama. features a heavily modified vulture and a downed and broken madcat who just got whooped. the chrome vulture was inspired by the full chrome naboo queen's ship from star wars.

anyway, here are some WIP pics

The diorama looks good but there are still rooms for improvement. Although I am not a diorama modeler I would like to point out some things that hopefully can improve the looks of the diorama.

1) I think the Madcat II should at least have most of the body parts still intact even it is badly damaged during the fight. From the diorama, I don't think that the Vulture uses any weapons that can obliterare the Madcat's parts (legs, torso, etc...) because the house gate and even the sidewalk is undamaged. It looks like the Madcat is dropped onto the fountain.

2) Better put some sort of cockpit in the downed Madcat. It adds detail although it will not be easily visible at first glance.

3) It seems that the grass on the Vulture's right leg is following the shape of the feet. THis is minor though.

This is just my comments though.

Interesting composition.

Now let me see if I understand this storyline correctly since I know nothing of the Mechas and such. Vulture unit kicks Madcat's a** and Madcat falls on the Queen's favorite fountain and the Officer-in-charge of the garden is really angry over the whole incident. Right?

Humor and violence, 2 opposing storylines that are not easy to merge into one dio but if pulled off well makes an excellent dio. My 2 cts would be have the Vulture's guns on the arms pointed at the downed Madcat. Better yet have one of its foot stepping over the fallen Madcat, sought of like a "Victory pose for a photo".

As for the ground you will need to rough it up by creating furrows and thrown up pieces of soil and grass as though both combatants were fighting it out hand to hand combat and rolling on the ground. This will add to the storyline of the smashed fountain as not only was the fountain smashed but the Queen's favorite lawn was messed up as well. A couple of scattered flowers will be good too showing the Queen's favorite flower beds destroyed as well.

Do keep us posted.

this one is a problem for me, actually I am at a loss on this topic. anyone know how to weather chrome? or how chrome battle damages? the naboo queen's ship was mostly intact through out the whole movie with forcefield taking the hits lah.... still looking for references.

woops, its suppose to be mud following the shape of the feet, maybe I did not get the effect right.

sometimes a downed mech goes nova... I want to show that this vulture totally outclass the mad cat , and the mad cat has gone nova as a result of a massive er... butt kicking. but I agree though the environmental damage is not consistent with the battle... hmmm...

check this video out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR_ym3Gj2vE&feature=related

this fetures a vulture taking down a madcat and a hunchback, both with some distraction lah....

this also feature another version of a vulture taking major punishment

Try looking at cars with chrome bumpers. Depending on the drivers road rage skill, they can get scratched and dented and scraped to pretty good effect. Paint transfers / foilage stains from collisions are possible too.

A bit of dust / mud / gunk on the lower legs probably wouldn't hurt either.
