Title: White Color
ericmaxman - August 17, 2008 01:13 AM (GMT)
Hi guys.
I just wanna know, how do I get a coat of white properly? I am using Anchor white. I can't afford Tamiya White at the moment. I know that white is a difficult color to start with, but I need some help. Some sources said that if I clear coat it, the clear coat may turn yellowish over time.

It depends actually. Some brands of clear coat will yellow faster like the Dove brand (industrial paint) but some will take some time like the Anchor brand. In one word, you have to try and experiment with clear coat on white.
The ones that I used that did not yellow for quite some time now is by using a few coat of Humbrol's Satin Cote and then a few layers of Anchor clear coat. So far after a few years the white paint did not have any yellow tint yet (as far as I know because the model is at Xamel's house).

Not too dark? I thought it is normal. I coat 3 layers of grey primer.

For white colour you are not supposed to use dark base coats/primer. The best is by using white primer because if you use grey primer, the white paint will need to be coated in more layers and this will result in loss of details.
Like what I always mention, for light colours use white base coats/primer and for dark colour you can use grey base coats/primer.

So I have to buy a new primer for the white? I see.
May I know where can I find the Mr Color Super White?

mr color super white im using is in bottle, gotta use wif airbrush, available at HHQ or Time Machine(times square). what druid said is correct, if u are planning for a light and bright color, use white primer. :)

I'm a 100% spray can user right now.I found out, that there is an industrial spray can brand that can produce near same finishing quality like Tamiya spray.
Try this, Nippon Paint - Pylox range.67.5% much better than Anchor brand. Plus only rm6 per bottle at OU hardware shop. They got a lot of color ranges there.
Good luck!

Musang
The Nippon Pylox is laquer based, right? Kalau laquer based, what's the no-no as dia punya clear coat? Any particular type/brand that's ok or not ok with a laquer based color?
I dah lupa about this what goes with what. can anyone re explain again? ;)

You dont need to flame others ppl on this, every shop has it pros and cons.
You make others think that you are the one who wrote the blog.

I never visited it, and I think I won't unless on occasion that if I happen to be somewhere around there. I won't go there on purpose. Gundam and Sci-fi are not my cup of tea. I do like figurines, I haven't build one coz hard to find in Malaysia. But since now I'm online, I'm now searching for good ones. I'm eyeing on Resin FFX Yuna at.... 1/6? scale.
Having that said, I don't normally handpaint white color. I'll hand paint if it's a small area (like control panel of aircraft) and only hand paint flat or semigloss white or similar color. Gloss white? spray all the way..... Same for yellow, and red.
