Title: Rebuild: Eva-05 Mass Production Model
Description: My weekend project

xamel1975 - August 7, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
This is what I've been working on in the past few weeks during weekends. Originally, the kit is already completed but the finishing is quite bad. It was my first airbrushed kit. I decide to rebuild this kit and add a little twist to it.

I could've get a new kit and start from scratch, but the kit is rather hard to find and I don't want to order new one online.

This will be a fixed pose build. A lot of work needs to be done

The picture that inspire this build. Looks menacing.

The wings.

[Marked with red box] I make additional cut on the wing. The existing ones aren't 'deep' enough. I want to recreate the curve similar to the first pic. I'd be happy if I could get at least half the look of it.

With the huge sword. It's taller than the Eva itself!

Close up shot of the head. I cut the mouth open and recreate the teeth. I've filled the mouth cavity with A+B putty.

A+B putty is also used to make the tongue.

Stuff that need to be done:

- rebuild the arms to get a more extreme angle.
- hip joints and legs: To get a much more leg poseability.
- wings: To get a much more natural curve and flow. Now it's too stiff.
- strengthen and fixed the joints to support the heavy wing.

Bro, good job on the modification. Makes me want to rebuild the red EVA back... hehehe... The stance in the picture looks a bit funny lah... instead of the EVA spreading the leg wide, I think it will look better if one of the knee is on the ground.

One suggestion on the wing, I think it's better to remove the whole wing, leaving only the main wing part (that is attached to the back) and rebuild all the other parts using thinner plastic. It's easier to shape, just dip it in hot water or heat it using hair dryer piece by piece and glue it together...

I've always had a fascination for the Eva series not coz I know anything about them, well not much anyway but coz of all the mechas, gundams and such the Evas have the most human like poses.

I like the mods being put in especially the tongue which definitely makes it more menacing. Like your brother I kind of like the lower stance shown in the pic you showed with one hand on the ground and the other carrying its oversized sword. Any chance you can bend it more at the knees?

Curved wings definitely adds more dynamics to te pose. I'm definitely looking forward to following the progress on this one.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

I will most definately change the leg spreading wide stance into something more menacing. The photo is just my inspiration, expect to see some changes in the final result.

I agree the bended knee will add some dramatic effect to it. Instead of leg spreading wide from side to side, I'm thinking of a stance where the Eva is more like crouching: with right leg is on it's knees and the left leg stretched forward. I think this will solve the issue of the heavy wing by distributing the weight around.

One more thing to add, since it will be in a fixed-posed stance, instead of modifying the existing joints, maybe you can just use plastic sheets and bondite (like what I've done with the red EVA (01)) for the joints to get the best stance.

Last night, I managed to get some work done on the hip joint to get a wider stance of the Eva. I use 1mm rod to extend the hip joint. Next will be filling the gap with Bondite. The left arm have been modified a bit. The right arm will need a bit of modification too.

Did u sculpt its hand?

Looking good. Keep it up. ^_^

Thanks Becky,

Right now, only the left hand are sculpted. I want to make it look as if it actually grips the sword instead of merely holding it. The way things go, looks like I have to sculpt the right hand too.

Not much done last night. Just filling the gaps with Bondite.

Right arm are modified by cutting the elbow joint; spread a bit and filled the gap using Bondite.

Left hand was sculpted using Bondite to get the 'gripping look'.

Testing the stance with the wings on. The wings are a bit heavy.

While posing the Eva, I saw a photo of the resin kit which depicts the Eva standing in a pool of blood. One of the arm was holding some sort of broken structure and that gives me an idea to add a more dramatic effect to this build. I test the pose by using my sanding block.

I think I will give this build a title: "Blood Of Another"

Ever considered glo-in-the-dark paint wash leaves residue of errie green to alien skin or underneath the wings?
