Title: Sci-fi - What Are You Into?

xamel1975 - July 30, 2008 01:57 AM (GMT)
Since sci-fi thread is moving slowly, I think we can have a discussion here related to Sci-Fi modelling.

Discussion topic: What Sci-Fi model do you build?

I'd like to leave Gundam out of this topic since we know, almost everybody is into Gundam these days with abundant stocks available (in BB area especially).

As for me, other than Gundam, I do have other Sci-Fi kits like Star Wars. My Star Wars collection are of Fine Molds since they keep their products in same scale, which means diorama possibilities!

Other than that, I have some Five Star Stories (Mortar Headd) kits from Wave and Volks. I love these kits but haven't completed a single one yet. My favourite of this series are Volks' Knights Of Gold (Patraqushe, Lachesis and Joker 3100). And my collection are of 1/100 scale only.

Revell's Battlestar Galactica is in my collestion too. Have the Viper and the Cylon Raider. Still hoping that they'll produce the new Vipers.

Next on the list is the Virtual-On. I have the Wave's 1/144 scale from Oratorio Tangram, One-Man Rescue series. I bought it long time ago when no major manufacturer produce them. Then Hasegawa came in with their 1/100 scale. Hasegawa concentrate more on "Force" (dubbed as "4") and VO-Marz. I hope they'll come up with the older series like Oratorio Tangram and Operation Moongate (the first Virtual-On series). And please, no more Apharmd, Fei-Yen or Temjin variation! I've grown sick of it  !

Hollywood sci-fi that I have are Aliens and Predator. A Halcyon's reissue by long defunct Tsukuda Hobby. I have plans for these kits. An Alien vs Predator diorama. So far I have 4 xenomorphs and 2 Yautjas. I think recast is in order here :D.

Thus far, my Sci-Fi collection are from injection kit media. I do have a few vinyl kits; my Queen Xenomorph fetus is one of them. I also have the facehugger and Queen chestburster in actual size. Still wondering what to do with them in terms of presentation and display.

Finally, there's the Hasegawa's Macross. So far I only collect the Macross Zero series since the aircraft is bigger than the original Macross.

I've been looking for Buck Roger's Starfighter for sometime now. The price sold on the net is way too high and I just might consider scratchbuild it.

Star Trek? Somehow I cannot appreciate Star Trek (sorry, Kenny!). But I do like the Borg Cube. Too bad there's no kit on that subject but I think it can easily be built using the extra sprues I have lying around!

Got a few FM Star Wars kits but haven't started on 'em yet. Targeting to collect a few more i.e. MF and Slave-1 :D

Only Star Trek ship I've done so far is Bandai's prepainted snap fit Enterprise NCC-1701E.

Think I've got a couple of Macross Zero kits. Somewhere.

Not sci-fi, but anime. I enjoyed this series on AXN years ago. Kosuke Fujishima's "You're Under Arrest!"

For Sci Fi, in fact like other gendre too, I pick and choose. My Sci Fi models are still unbuild, I think

ST - PolarLight Ent A; DS9; Voyager (2);
BSG - Original Battlestar
Aliens - Dropship
Warhammer 40K - those spacemarines

Those above are the kits but my collection (limited) are the ready built like those tiny box set ST ships, etc.

zukazini - July 30, 2008 10:11 AM (GMT)
Hey guys! been awhile since i posted anything.... :P

I love sci-fi models, that's what got me into plastic models.....guess my favorite sci-fi models are the Armored Cores.....i love the game, so when the kits came out, it was like a dream come true...hahaha....

Other stuff in my unbuilt stash are some Macross planes, 2 Tachikomas, the planes from Yukikaze anime and the bike from the anime Megazone 23.....i'm actually thinking of getting some Star Wars kits from Fine Molds if i get the chance..... ^_^

kerastangan - July 31, 2008 04:48 AM (GMT)
For me it was Star Wars and Macross. I said 'was' because I no longer do sci-fi modeling.

Victorious Secret - July 31, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)

f100supersabre - August 2, 2008 05:41 AM (GMT)
Ah... now my turn... gundam (mostly everyone into it nowadays), mine's mostly UC series..

then i have some

Macross (few original series, but only 1 frm macross zero)
Mospeada
old patlabor models,
some space marines and imperial guards
and
1 star wars x-wing

RX-78-2 - August 2, 2008 07:16 AM (GMT)
well, sure i like gundam just from my nick! but i only like the UC series!!

besides, I have other mecha like
Scopedog (new bandai metalic spec)
Patlabor (old 1/60 and new MG 1/35)
Five Star Stories (Wave 1/100)
Armore Core (only the first one)
Raxephone (one and only one which is rare in market)
vifan (old bandai kit)
Mak (now only 1 old nitto AFSII, goin to get those by wave)

But now i almost stop buying gundam, but focus on the EX models!!!
So now i am more interested on the space ships, fighter, transport vehicles in scifi!!
Ex kits: argama, albion, La-vien Rose, white base, musai, salamiss&magellan, Gama's Dopp fighter, Luggun & Sealanth, Gundam Trailer Truck, cosmo tigerII, cosmo zero, black tiger, etc.

Last time I grab a lot of cheap old bandai yamato space ships which i found out later the detail is nice, should have grab more that time!!

I also have a few startrek kits and finemold star wars kits. i'm goin to get all the finemold kits except the expensive millennium falcon!!

Don't forget about macross too! i hv some hasegawa kits and the stash is building up slowly. my favorite is the SV-51 from macross zero. now can't wait for the macross frontier kits!!

and last but not least is my proud collection of Yukikaze fighters!!
i have all the 1/100 EX models and 2 1/72 resin kits from Platz!! u will amazed by how sharp the bandai's tooling & snap fit design and how good is Platz resin cast which put others in shame!!!

KIRIN - August 2, 2008 01:21 PM (GMT)
Ha, I still keep a lot of my old sci-fi kit/toy, not because of the value but the sentimental value.

I got;

Patlabor
Those old bandai one, three box limited edition vinly kit. First one is the prototype labor, second is the Saturn Labor and the third, Trainer labor. For plastic kit, I got 1/60 Patlabor no.2, I bought it cause it looks cool with the shot gun :P And never forget the Type Zero, in a bad shape now cause last time try to damage the kit to simulate damge in the OVA. :P

Macross
Only those Bandai old kit, cant transafer. And two SD Macross, I love them most, they look so cute and transformable. :D

Guyver
I was a super fans of guyver when I was 18. Still keep some of those vinly kit. Biggest collection will be the 1/6 (or 1/8) vinly Guyver 3. (hand painted, in a bad shape too.) :P

As getting older and finacially stable, I start to collect those toys/kits that I seen during my teen/childhood, cause last time really cant affort to buy...

I got two 'chohokin' (Alloy Figure) Voltron and Grendizer early this year, its really not cheap, its more expensive then a 1/35 DORA, :o but it bring back a lot of my childhood memory. :D

xamel1975 - June 4, 2009 01:29 AM (GMT)
I love Yukikaze too. I could watch the series over and over again when it was shown on Animax. Bandai produced the kits in their Ex-Model line-up but at 1/100 scale it was too small for me.

Platz did it in 1/72 but in resin. Too expensive. I'm hoping that Hasegawa would produce them at least in 1/72 scale but since the show is from Bandai/Emotion (I think), I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Got a couple of Gerry Anderson in my collection recently. Tthe cars from Captain Scarlet series.

Moebius is going to(?) release the Seaview from Irwin Allen's Voyage In The Bottom Of The Sea. Looks promising!

Bomber Vince - June 4, 2009 06:19 AM (GMT)
Peter,
thanks for the info...

Harman,

Me think the same as you bout the Yukikaze planes.... 1/72 is the best scale so that I can line them up with my Hase Macross planes.
