achee74 - July 16, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
Guys,
Aiyoh, cannot stand already, when to my stash and pull out the kits to do a simple diorama on the above mentioned. Still in the planing stage, so appriciate any feedbacks :P
Will be using the following kits:
1)Dragon LRRP kits ( Need some advise: There are two figures with bandoliers, you guys think can use this?)
2) Heads will be using the asian Dragon MACV-SOG, VietCong & Chinese Volunteer
3) Weapons of choice: M16s, M203, Remington, Converted HK11A1, Streling (Can anyone confirmed whether this was used by the VAT69?)
Would appriciate any advise from you guys...
Thanks in advance ^_^

:D Its good to hear the Diorama bug has bitten you really bad.
I've moved your post to the Dio section Alex where it will hopefully get the info you need.
Draw us a rough sketch if possible on what you plan to do and I'm sure the guys will be along to give their 2 cts. As for the weapons used there is a mention of some of the weapons used in the Wiki link I gave you earlier. Its mentioned in a footnote in italics just below the table of weapons currently being used.
I can only confirm the Remington (likely for the front man/lead scout) but for further info the I'm sure the gun experts will be along shortly to add to that.

Dear CK,
Thanks for helping me to move it to the correct channels. Sorry still new to the site so am still blur.
Basically the main idea is more on a patrol idea with the figures from Dragon's LRRP as their base figures. As I had mentioned in my post earlier, my current issue would be rather do they use bondoliers????
If they do not, I would need to get two more figures that would fit into the diorama as the current LRRP would only have 2 of them without the bondoliers....
As for the weapons of choice, after rereading the book "the spear and the kerabit", more a least the weapons are correct, except that I might change the streling to a AR-15 for the patrol leader.
Pack wise, I think it would be alright to still with the current packs from the LRRP, it had the similiarty to the ones that was used by the PPF.
The patrol would be more a least with the following order of march:
1) Point Man: Remington
2) TL : AR-15
3) Signaler: M16
4) Demo/Grenadier: M203
5) ATL cum medic: M16
6) Tracker: HK11A1
I am basing this a lot on the order of march from the LRRP, so, please help if you all have more info to add, apprieciate it very much. Am also thinking to add the sand beret for my TL, which I know it should not be.. but, think it would be kool since we are talking about the VAT69....
Thanks
Alex

Actually I've in mind to build (major conversion) a PPH69 (Pasukan Polis Hutan 69) figure too.... but put on-hold due to lack of time to do research on their gear...
Now with Ur pioneer into the 69, I may take a ride and collect info from here too :-)
Hope to see more of the WIP picts or maybe as the Bum said, perhaps show us Ur draft layout first...?
Regards,
CPTan

One possible info source would be the Police Museum as after all VAT69 was the police's paramilitary arm.
As far as I know we have a few ex-military forumers here on board but I'm not aware of any ex-police personnel though. Our ex-military forumers here will probably be your next best bet for direct info on webbing, equipment, weapons and tactics.
However, as far as dios go, I feel that a dio-maker should have a certain leeway for artistic licence. If you can't get any additional info on your bandoliers if it was me when in doubt don't use them. VAT69 from what I've read got their initial training from the British SAS and later by the New Zealand SAS. Both of these organizations share very similar weapons, tactics and equipment so it is likely VAT69 being trained by them would have been patterned very closely to them as well. The little that I know of Special forces is that the Green Berets favor the basic 6-man A-Team since Vietnam while the British SAS prefer the smaller 4-man team. Of course, mission requirments would dictate various combinations as well (i.e. Bravo Two Zero's 8 man team).
Not to hopefully confuse matters but as a sidenote, a lot of the Green berets and US spec ops personnel that went to Vietnam had their initial training here in Johor Jungle warfare school including Delta's Force first boss, Charles Beckwith.

Hi CK,
Had a chat with an ex army guy, said that it is not much of an issue, The figures which I wanted on the bondoliers are basically the point man who will have the remington, so can say that these are slugs for the remington which the other guy would be the one with the M203, so say rounds for the M203....
It had been confirmed in the book which I had posted earlier that a patrol for VAT69 is normally six, of course it would again differ from missions to mission....
Love the topic of special forces... had tried to learn as much as possible on this field... :D

Glad to hear the bandoliers are settled.
Finally another modeller on board here besides myself that has an unhealthy fascination for special forces. Unfortunately and sadly I know little of our country's own spec ops personnel. Of the many Special forces one of my favorites is the British SBS. So much so I ended up doing 3 dios on them and may even do one more. Better stop here before I go even more off-topic and mess up your post. :P

We need to go off line and have depth discussions.... My favorite is the SAS.

 :D :ph43r: No need to go offline Alex we can actually send private messages here on the forum (PM). Just click on the little "PM" button below someone's post and you can send him/her a message. The upper top right of the page will indicate if you have any incoming (Inbox).
Some people have their favorite football teams, guys like us have Special Forces teams. :D The main difference between our teams and football teams is just that they have longer mottos, "Who Dares Wins" and "Not By Strength By Guile". :)
