Title: Responsibility And Accountability In The Forum
PoohBear - June 9, 2008 04:06 AM (GMT)
Dear Forumers,
Whilst this highlight has some bearing on the recent petrol increase and hack posts, it also applies in general to all new topics and posts made.
Once again, if information is going to be posted, please ensure that ALL facts, figures, photos etc. are accurate, verifiable and complete with RELIABLE source(s) and appropriate Credit(s) / Copyright detail. If you can't substantiate, don't disseminate.
Political statement(s) (or anything deemed close to), jokes, non-essential comments / venting against the present Administration and / or person(s) in said Administration (including attempts to allude to) is a strict no-no. Seek a more appropriate forum or go off board for your own private discussions / debate.
Each poster is solely responsible and accountable for the content(s) of his / her post in this forum, so always have a care and think twice before hitting the 'add reply / post' button. Whilst the section Mods / Admin have no desire to invoke censorship, they will call it as they see fit, in the primary interest of SMM and SFTPMS operations.
Thanks for your kind co-operation.
Happy modelling :)

Ahhh…we have it once in March 2006, follow by Aug 2007 and now Jun 2008..~ Cool..it’s like an annual ‘thingy’ in SMM now…~
I guess most modelers jst don’t have much brain when it comes to sharing General Information besides modeling stuffs huh…especially on those Gahment related issues..~ Oh wait, the 1st and 2nd wasn’t Gahment related…~ Hmmph….
Anyway, I propose we do something like Wikipedia..put up a link at the bottom as your point of reference….else those whatever information you’re disseminating shall be deleted whenever a Mod/Admin comes across it…~
I like the tagline, “If you have the will to post, then we have the time to delete”…~
beachbum - June 11, 2008 02:01 AM (GMT)
I believe we have not deleted anyone's post as far as I know short of those with abusive language and nudity plus a few spammers.
The Mods/Admin's jobs here are not to delete or as you put it "If you have the will to post, we have the time to delete". We have neither the time as none of us are paid to do this nor the moral standards to delete anyone's post beyond what is stated in the Rules of the Forum. We are not here for the money, thrills or power trip, heck we don't even care if anyone thanks us. Do check the percentage of posts deleted vs. total posts before you say that the Mods/Admin have the time to delete posts. Have we deleted any of your posts or have we barred you from the forum?
If you are referring to the Petrol hike thread, do note we have deleted no one's post. We understand its a chance for forumers to blow off some steam. Our concern there that as long as facts are adhered the Society which is our primary concern is not affected. Yes, that may seem "sissy" or scared but better that then no Society and no forum. Do say what you like but don't hurt anyone in the process.
What is the point anyway if we keep deleting someone's post everytime its posted. We respect all posts equally because forumers took the time and effort to post them.
On Behalf of the Administrators.

Beachbum, i believe you ARE putting words in my mouth..~
Am i accusing you people of deleting any of my posts right now..? In fact, i believe i am trying to support you folks by voicing out opinions that would elimiate such 'risk' that SMM or SFTPMS might encounter.
I would appreciate if you would NOT let issues of the past to cloud your judgement..for as part of the working committee, i believe you should see things one at a time and not jumble them up. Especially with a little sense of maturity.
And yes, i would treasure if you do NOT make up a conclusion on my behalf nor jump the gun and create your own assumption for me again.
PS : And again, it's a tagline....a tagline that does NOT construe to any meaning of accusing you as someone that have the time to delete posts.

Wowww….i used to go against those military-style, iron-strict SMM R & R and I got bombarded back to stone age…~
And now I try to follow the rules and give some supportive ideas and I got myself being thrown into the fire pit..~
So I guess those personal mails I have been receiving indicated a lot huh… That either you are part of the committee that nods to their every ideas, suggestions and comment, or you are not one of them…~
It’s the Bush’s style of dealing with terrorist huh..? With me, or against me…with him, then ur at the end of my 12 gauge barrel stuffs….~
Hey guys..i am all with you people this round….even after close to 3 yrs and we have only 500+ members, I am still with you lads…
Even when I am not staying nearby Selangor or it’s territories but spiritually I am with you folks…
Even when I can’t join u all on the gatherings organized but truthfully I am with you people…
Even when I couldn’t submit a good-looking model for the GB but be darn sure I am trying hard to stick the AM 20mm AA guns onto the deck…~
And especially even when I couldn’t register myself as a member of SFTPMS but believe me I would have send the form and paid triple the payment jst so I could feel belonged if I could…~
If I have kids that are interested in modeling, SMM will be the 1st place I would ask them to go through… You guys are like the benchmark of how a forum should be run..~ The backbone of how a society should be formed…~ The foot-soldiers on the might of a Division…~ The NCOs bridging the inevitable gap between Operators and Brass…~ The cyclic and collective on a UH-1..~ The epitome of knowledge in the learning curve…~ The tip of the spear….~
So what else should I do to pledge my support and be accepted..? I am ready to wag my tail….~ :)
PS : Don’t push me away k…~

Dear armoredFiend,
I sense from you postings and by reading between the lines that there is a misconception on your part on how the moderators are responding to forum postings ( and in no case is it particular to yours). Please note the few following points to ponder:
1) the moderators were asked to take over the forum from the original initiator and we do so with the sole intention of promoting the original intent of the setup which is consistent with the setup of SFTPMS. You have no idea how much work is required behind the scenes just making sure that all the postings are relevant. We are constantly bombarded by spam, pornography, and irrelevant postings which I think the mods have done a great job keeping under control. Some do get still get through like the ones selling contacts at Dubai???!
2) the moderators are trying to avoid having forum discussions which are either too remote to scale modelling topics or have the tendency to create uneasiness and tension which will disrupt the peace of the forum. (This little rule is important similarly to why we do not bring religion or politics into a dinner invite)
3) the issue of whether you support a particular motion or otherwise is not what concerns the moderators as we do not take sides in any debate. We just do not want discussions to blow up into something confrontative or may end up libellious or exposing the moderators to accussations of neglect.
Without a proper check on this, we are going to have a hard time getting volunteers as moderators. Let's face it, while we are passionate about our hobby, its not worth getting into arguments over.
The mere fact that you do model and is part of this forum community must mean that you are passionate about modelling. I hope that your contribution in the forum will be all about that.
As for your other comments on style, forum numbers and other innuendos; I do not think that the other moderators will respond to this because we do not see a need to.
And by the way, I also do not see why you cannot join SFTPMS as an associate member, if 10 other members who do not live in Selangor or FT can do so and contribute to support SFTPMS without questioning on personal benefit to them in return?
And in that spirit ,I sincerely hope and look forward to receiving your membership application form? :)
Sincerely
CK Loo

Hi Loo,
1stly, thank you for ironing out those misconceptions I have been having since March 2006. Obviously the incident in August 2007 only strengthens further on the misconception on my end.
2ndly, I understand the pain most Moderators have to go through governing a forum. So many posts but so few time..and what’s more when one’s doing it out of good will. So for this case, I truly understand. Especially when the original initiator had migrated to the UK and you guys have to do everything in the hope of not screwing it up. In fact, I had exchanged a few emails with Mr.Wong previously, but none related to SMM though.
3rd, I like your way of providing me with the correct info on where you folks stand, straight to the point and blunt. It cut down on a lot of speculation and unnecessary bashes.
And lastly on joining SFTPMS, I am not sure what personal benefit those 10 persons you have cited as example are hoping NOT to get in return. But I for one would like to have a sense of belonging and friends that could both take jokes and critics. So I guess until I could feel the air of friendliness even when I am going against someone’s idea, specially the working committee group, I am afraid until that day I would continue to hold on to my application form. Nonetheless, I received an email last year enquiring me on whether would I like to join SFTPMS as I had previously requested for the application form. I couldn’t recall that person’s name but for a moment there, a sense of friendliness and helpfulness overwhelmed me. I was so closed to dropping the letter into the mail box until I was told that the Annual Fees work on a yearly basis regardless of when you’re joining. And since it was Nov then, I decided to wait until the arrival of 2008. With 2 incidents and 2 years wait, I figured I could wait a few more months.
Like the reason of why some of you buyers previously did not enjoy shopping/browsing in Tamiya Underground even if it is cheaper by RM10 or so, it is by that same reason of why I venture onto finescale.com whenever possible albeit it is not easy to find local modelers. And by that reason I am NOT referring to anyone I had exchanged laughter with.
Thank you for clearing it up for me.

GREAT...!!! now lets all have a cup of tea and talk plastic shall we...?
I sure hope these misconception and misunderstanding do not escalate to a feud, which i believe you guys won't lah, since you have live long enough to see things ... in a better picture...
some funny thought for everyone to ponder:
If this X guy never see this A guy before, and they had a virtual feud. Ironically they met one day and laugh at each others joke like good pal. until one of the guy ask, "hey my nick in that community is X... whats yours...?"
What would that A guy think and react???
I for one... don't want to be either guy X or guy A...

Hahaa….koowilliams, that happened before to other forumers I know as well as myself.
Let me share with you what happened on my case..and to others that hold grudges on me…~
I hailed from a local toys forum and as usual, there ought to be differences in view and perspective.
And being an ‘active’ player back then and in a rather more ‘open’ forum, there are ‘constructive discussions’ every once a while..or once a few months…
Inevitably, I got myself into debates…a lot more worst than SMM, coz that forum is more ‘open’ and so long as there’s no name calling and foul languages, the Moderators allow the ‘debate’ to carry on, provided you back it up with logical and reasonable statements.
Then came the day some of the KL Toys Collectors decided to give us Penang Toys Collectors a visit…
Around 10 of us Penang folks went over to meet them up, bring them around for toys hunting and stuffs…
There were 5 of them, in which 1 of them were the one I had ‘constructive debate’ before…~
But as it turn out, we had more fun and laughter over the incident rather than showing each other our ‘sour’ face…or maybe a session in Red Box helped as well, I couldn’t tell.
Either way, bottom line is that..i am not the only person having a great time face-to-face during meet up with someone I had ‘constructive debate’ with in forums..
There were dozens more in KL….
They could be bombarding each other with comments and points but when they went out for a gathering, they were like best friends since kindy…and best friends onwards in the forum.
I never knew until they start posting up their gathering pics and u could see all the friendly comments and jokes with each others..
Jst 2 months ago this fella was peppering that guy with sarcastic remarks and the other person retaliated with his own concoction of Molotov cocktail and 8 weeks later + after a gathering session, they are asking each other out for toy hunting trip…~
Those people aren’t 40 or 50+ collectors that have seen enough of life to understand how under certain circumstances, u might find friends among foes..
Most of them are 20 ~ 30+ that are quick to burst into anger throwing out curses and yet, quick to forgive and make friends as well. They are supposed to be a bunch of youngsters that held high ego of themselves and see the world as something belonging to them….but instead they find joy in sharing ideas and views with someone that see things differently from them…
And since I am already at it, I might as well hard-sell myself a little…
The forum that I came from…they concentrate a lot more on Toys…like 90% are on action figures, visualize XL Forums…but with a different name…~
So there’s not much Model Kit or Gundam kaki there…
And whenever I came across someone passionate about Model Kits or Gundam, I would ask them to check out SMM for Model Kits and Zero G for Gundam…
It is fun when you know you are helping out another modeler to get in touch with a bigger group of people coz when you’re doing modeling alone, and unless you are truly a hardcore modeler, the passion for it will eventually die out.
No one for you to ‘show off’ your assembled kits to, no one to share ideas with and no one to chit chat on latest releases.
Gundam wont die out..that’s one thing for years to come…but Scale Model Kits on the other hand walks a different path…
How many Scale Model Kits shop one can find in Penang…used to be a handful…. The one I remember visiting most often was located in 1-Stop, I got my 1st and only compressor and handpiece there and that’s more than 15 yrs ago...but now there’s only 1 in Komtar..but that one doesn’t re-stock often since the death of the initial owner.
Eventually all of us will pass on….as in kick the bucket.. Who then shall be striving for the existence of Scale Modeling by then..?
From the forum I came from again…their number doesn’t come in hundreds or thousands, but 15 thousand strong…and that is a local toys forum, not international..
Thus initially I thought hey, if the way and environment of that forum could rake in such amount of collectors, then maybe SMM should follow as well..
Hence you see me coming into SMM previously with gun-blazing and artillery-pounding with such concept in mind…
I blasted the iron-fist rule 2 yrs ago and detonated with the same agenda 11 months earlier…
But this round, I have decided that my children are probably never gonna like Model Kits anyway..
Their time could be one that’s filled with Virtual World and Online Gaming…
So even if SMM or Model Kit came to a halt and extinct after that in Malaysia…why should I care so long as I have my share of Modeling when I am still alive..
My children can find entertainment of their own…
So there you have it..my true agenda and the cause of my going-against-the-military-style SMM forum…~
I might be getting old and a little dramatic at times…but for the time being, I think I will jst hold on to the application form….~ B)
