Haha, welcome to the world of Gundam
U like Zaku alot huh, and all of ur stash is in MG :o Is HG too small for u? or bcoz of it articulation?
RX-78-2 - May 1, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
1/100 scale is the best comparing 1/144.
MG have better articulation and details. and nowaday the price is quite ok around 100 for normal size.
zaku is cool and more muscular. it look more practical than gundam too!!
in japan, there are alot of zaku fans and the biggest gundam model competition is call Ora-Zaku!!! ;)
KIRIN - May 1, 2008 08:34 AM (GMT)

For your information, this is THE GUY that had done a lot of "poison" to me recently...
Nevertheless... his ideas and thoughts had helped me a lot too....
Kirin,
Many thanks for the tips.. I shall compile a list of my "dream" kits soon... :)
Becky,
Just like the rest of my collections in Armor (1:35), Planes (1/48), Ships (1/350) , Submarines (1/144) etc... I will stick myself with 1:100 scale for Mecha.
Loo CK - May 1, 2008 03:56 PM (GMT)
Will,
there is no longer hope for you now as GUNDAM poisoning is the worst form of poisoning with no cure......
The syptoms include
no sleep
no time for TV
no storage space
no life!

Ahem! Ahem!
Mr. Low, those that done up by your kid were in 1/144 scale... non HG perhaps...
MG Grade kits do requires more time, and effort wise shall I say is about building Hasegawa 1/48 birds ... except Bandai MG kits need not to putty and a very minimal sandings ... Painting and weathering is optional depend on desire finishing quality.
Cap.Kirk and RX-78-2 will probably be more qualified to comment on this matter... ;)
willphang - May 1, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
Becky,
Unfortunately my passion on Gundam EFSF is much lesser compared to those from "Principality of Zeon". Maybe those "bad guys" do have more varieties, special shapes + nicer weaponaries compared to the "good companies". :D
And frankly, I hate those "Wings" type Gundam... dont ask me why... :)
Do you guys/gals think my mode of purchases is consider too fast/crazy? ... Just started doing mecha 1/100 since CNY this year... and yet had already cumulated so many unbuild kits. BAD am I? :(
Joeker - May 1, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
For diorama and AFV modellers, can try UC Hargraph Gundam kits. They got 1/35 figures, AFVs, dioramas, etc.
Gundam mecha kits if just build OOB is not much fun. Need creativity and imagination to mod/make-over the kit to be look more nicer.
By watching the Gundam animations will be even better because you will understand the story of the Mecha and the timeline it was deployed.
Try watching Gundam "MS Igloo" series, I think its the best and most realistic Gundam animation thus far.
Another good watch is Gundam "08th MS Team" series.
Becky - May 1, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
So, u're a Zaft boy huh ;)
If u think ur wallet can stand those "bleeding", then is ok loh.
I watched "08th MS Team" its a very good combat Gundam anime. Haven't go through MS Igloo yet, but sure will watch it.
Joeker - May 1, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
MS Igloo is a MUST SEE for ZEON fans.
I think GUndam MS Igloo is more for adult audience.

Ok, just to share something with you all "How come willphang now also getting into GUNDAM....?" :D
It is all started since last year when I spent about 60%-70% every month in Hanoi and now also including HCMC. Those places are boring and one of the best ways to kill time during weekend is Scale Modelling.. I did manage to build several kits during my 2007 period in Hanoi => SAM-2, Gepard, and KV-2... but those are what I can do there as I can't do any painting ... only pure building... since the place of living are not as "freedom" as my own place.
So, somewhere before CNY08, I actually bought a MG 1/100 MG RX-78-3 from Jusco and brought along with me during one of my busines trip to Hanoi, and there go the "poison"... follow by the 2nd kit RX-78-2(OYW) and ... :D
I love building, sanding and fixing up the package. I also like to paint it for "the complete feelings" but it seems to be now time for airbrushing are very limited for me... most of my free time are being occupied for family. ;) (Afterall family must come first maa...)
Well, I do consider myself a lucky husband+father coz my wife never stop me from chasing my hobbies... despite I do spend lesser time with them recently, but looking at my current workload and responsibilities, looks like MG 1/100 is the only "option" I do have at this point of time....
To my fellow Armor/Millitary modeler kakis and gangs, I am still much in love with 1/35 AFVs, 1/48 Planes especially those WWII propellers and 1/350 Ships... in fact... I am looking forward to restart my long-overdue airbrushing sessions on those non-painted kits... ;)

:ph43r: ** putting Gundam shield to ON ***
wa lauu... this not good. i will have to resist the temptation of the "principality of Zeon" thing.. else the stash will grow exponentially!!
have to make sure that my anti-poison shield is good enough for the rest of this thread
but that Hi Nu is calling me like nobody's business..
must... re..sist.....

Welcome to the black hole of Gundam!
I mostly build Gundam nowadays, well to me one thing that it offers which scale models do not is: it's a hybrid of model and toy!
It doesnt mean i play the kit like a toy, it just open a new option to express/display. Because of its human like form, there's a lot of fun in creating pose simply for show, or even tell stories. Eg it's easier to present "fear" of the pilot when under attacked using a gundam to a blackbird.
of your choices, dom/rick dom, z'gok, RX79 (G), are extremely easy to build, with tons of modification potential, and dio possibility; space, earth, sea.
Kampfer, excellent design, great for doing with pearl color and finishing.
about sazabi...... well, i love the design but honestly i think the model is a big let down....
Strongly suggest: the ver 2.0 series. When i did my mkII a year ago, i even email Bandai to thank them for such beautiful job they did!
Yeah, the only animation i finished watching very bit are 08 ms team, igloo and Z.
Seems like here people prefer more military stuff, or i would say sci fi to a more real-life perspective. So far not many suggest seed or oo series. Suddenly i feel so much like home :P
Becky - May 2, 2008 08:38 AM (GMT)
Seed and Seed Destiny are dissapointment for me <_<, but i quite like the mecha though.
Gundam 00 isn't my kind of taste, din even finish the 1st season. Currently watching
Code Geass, another mecha anime which the story is very dramatic. Very two thumbs up. ^_^

What happened to you? ayoyo...a gundam addict now!!!!!...The only cure is more AFV and planes.........
But if you think your condition is permanent and need more space, please unload your AFVs and planes ya..hahahhahahahahah.

If you guys are interested to know how a built kit looks like before deciding whether to purchaseˇKthen check out --„ł
www.dalong.netThis guy has been hauling ALL MG kits and with great efficiency. As in once itˇ¦s released in Japan, you can see the kit up on his website the next 2 days or so. And it comes complete with explanation on articulation and comparison with other similar or close to similar kits. Though unfortunately itˇ¦s in Korean.
He doesnˇ¦t color his kits except with some panel lining so you donˇ¦t have to worry about the kit not looking they are suppose to be OOB. Though his earlier kits were did rather badly with rough panel lining. I guess with practice he eventually mastered it. ;)
I was actually planning to get Crossbone until I realized how small it was after I have check it out on his website. Guess the manufacturer produced the kit exactly to the scale they ought to be in the anime.
And ya, one more tips in case you guys donˇ¦t already know. You can find out the actual price of the Gundam Kit on the box itself. Look for the bar code, and itˇ¦s located beneath the bar code further to the right. Kits like Strike Freedom will have 5500 at the end, meaning itˇ¦s 5500 Yen, which is roughly around RM165. So if the shop ur visiting is selling it at RM180, then I guess itˇ¦s worthwhile since u donˇ¦t have to risk shipping dent and customs.
Hope this helpsˇK~
PS : For those in Penang, check out Modelland nearby Sheraton hotel (the other end further AWAY from Gama)..ownerˇ¦s a nice fella and most of the time if you try to negotiate, he will give u some discount. And he got a place inside his shop for you to spray paint your kitsˇKcomplete with compressor. Though paint and hand piece not supplied. ;P Heˇ¦s open on weekdays from 8pm onwards and 2~3pm onwards on Weekend.
PM me if you want the map and if you say I introduced you, he might give u a slightly more discountˇKI hope.
The newly opened Toy Shop in Queensbay looks nice..but price wise on Gundam, I found all are slightly more expensive than Modelland between RM10 ~ 30. Must be location rental thingy.
The Hasegawaˇ¦s 1:72 Macross kits rocks though..! They are rather rare to be found nowadays even in HLJ.com..but then again, the price is a little discouraging..~
