Title: Mgb 08 : 1/48 Hurricane..

masterqq - April 21, 2008 06:47 AM (GMT)
I got this Monogram Classic Hurricane Mk 2 kit.. and I plan to build it for MGB 08. toward the end of battle of Singapore/Malaya, the NZ 488 sqn received 9 Hurricane IIBs as a replacement for the Buffalos, this is the same squadron as CK Loo's "Dragon" Buffalo.

Here is a photo I found on net...no unit marking was painted.. just the serial V7476
maybe I can do a what if by adding the left over Buffalo's
dragon decal

This is an old kit, although the decal printed in 1999, but It think the mold is properly older than me...Thisis a raised line kit and came with a zillion of raised rivets on the wings, this kit came with a lot of goodie.. tropicalised air filter which is needed for the Singapore based hurricane, and a wide selection of weapon including, 2omm & 40mm cannon, rockets, bomb..

the instuction said workable landing gear..

Thank you my Hakka Bro..

Any ref will be most welcome.. as I only have the above picture..

I test fitted the parts, the part fit is pretty good despite the age of the mold..

However, these are the concern area..
1) The office.. is non existence.. just a pilot stick to the wall.. but with the canopy close and a pilot in place, you won't see much..

2) the wheels bay design is for workable landing gear, so it is empty, maybe so skatch build needed...

Keep it up my boy, keep it up!!

At last, someone is making a Hurri based on NZAF. If I'm not mistaken these birds were seen fighting in Burma after that. Correct me please.

Lots of work to do. But it will be one of a kind.

Rich,
I only gonna rescribe the line on the fuselage.. and leave the wing and it's zillion rivet alone...

Thomas,
some markings and serial numbers for you...
BE163,BM899,BE332 just as a sample.
There is a lot of other serial numbers and will write more later. Trying to piece the info together.

Thanks Loo..

Please help to check if any of it painted with Fusalage Code, kinda look boring without the fuselage code...

Loo CK - April 25, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
Thomas,
from what I can piece together, there appear to be only a single alphabet on the next to the roundel on the canopy side.
There is a picture of BE208/O and text reference of BG667/C, BE160/E, and Z5667/T.

There is also an interesting painting of BE208/O on the cover of the book with a clear viking ship emblem and some other emblem which is not too clear below the canopy.

Thank Loo...I got a few more question..

The kit came with a lot of goodie..
1) 2 40mm cannon
2) 4 20mm cannon
3) 8 Rockets
4) 2 bomb
5) 2 drop tank.

1) Which of the above are applicable to the S'pore Hurricane
2) Which aircraft equipped with 20MM cannon, what serial# and fuselage code.

anyway,
some progress below....
- added the side wall detail, this is by no mean accurate, but with the canopy close 9which is quite thick anyway, this is about that much that can be seen..
- Added the seat taken from the buffalo kit

Cheers...

More update.. with decal now, I used the kit roundels and it crack on me when I'm positioning it.. I think it is due to the old age of the decal. so I spray a layer of future on the rest of the decal to hold it but damage already done on the first few decals.

I chose the marking for BE208/O, see here for some story about this bird... BE208 it will be very interesting also to build a diorama with some Malay and Indian Kids walking by the Hurricane that terpajak ke longkang...maybe next time.

Next will be some wash and paint chips , more to come.
